Assumedly Justin Fuente plays a major role in play calling but anyone that wants to get a look at what a Brad Cornelsen called game looks like should tune in to ESPN at high noon. Will need a second TV obviously since Buzz is going at noon as well but that shouldn't be a problem right?

Not based on this game but on the season. Nearly the most penalized team in the country. Something to be concerned with?
Not unless the offense was causing most of those penalties with the same headaches we've had - illegal formation, pre-snap motion, holding, etc. "Most penalized" encompasses all phases of the game.

Will be interesting to see how the money works out with the last position. If we assume that Brad Cornelsen is going to come in and make approximately what Loeffler was making (424,000),
then that leaves approximately 294,000 to pay the last position. Galen Scott was making 218,479 at Memphis so it could conceivably be possible.Edited: Galen Scott is indeed making 306,000 after being promoted to DC. Pulled that from the wrong spot.
I think I remember reading that he and Cornelson were done deals, but I can't remember the source for Scott so I editted the post away. But I agree compensation will be interesting. Imagine both will get pay raises especially Scott considering he would be taking a demotion.

I actually think she's one of ESPN's best play-by-play announcers. Calls it as it happens on the field, and then lets the color commentator go to work. Too many announcers just want to hear themselves talk.

Its either more wet than it looks, Lynch is injured or hes having a terrible day, he doesnt look anything close to the Paxton Lynch I watched earlier in the year when Fuente was just a rumor.

But in all honesty, our offense (Loeffler that is) is looking more similar to Auburn than Memphis, at least in this game, I havent watched basically any of their other games except one other Memphis game to know if this is their normal look.

Exactly. With Fuente, Vice, Wiggins, and Shibest missing, you'd have to almost expect this. And, obviously, it's a given that Auburn has more athletic guys than Memphis does. I'm very optimistic, especially with us having Ford, Phillips, McMillian, Rogers, Jerod Evans, and (hopefully) Bucky.

Well, this just got ugly.
I've seen a team score 21+ points in less than 12 min before though. so there is that.
the combo of much of the staff missing, the wet conditions, and some unfortunate drops have made this offense look pretty pedestrian. I wouldn't put too much stock into this though. The talent gap between Memphis and Auburn is pretty vast.
I wonder what the talent gap from Memphis to VT is. And the talent gap from VT to Auburn.
How big is the talent gap between FCS Jacksonville and Memphis?
Probably not as big of a gap as you'd think. Jacksonville State is really good - they're in the FCS Championship and their only loss this season is to Auburn.
They're also known as a landing spot for SEC transfers and they heavily recruit the state of Alabama, so they have quality talent on their roster.
Maybe this is an even bigger endorsement for Fuente!!!

I wouldn't go so far as to think the guys suddenly forgot how to play football, but it could be an emotion thing or a continuity thing. Maybe they're deflated with the loss of Fuente and some of the staff. Maybe Lynch is checking out because he's ready to move on to the NFL, or maybe Auburn is just a bad matchup for them. The fact that the commentators noted that Lynch was off by himself, not talking to any of the coaches, is not a good look for him, especially back when it was still a one-score game.
I certainly believe it to be a culmination of things. Most of the offensive staff is gone. There has been significant turnover at the top. Lynch is playing in his last game. The focus just doesn't seem to be there for much of the team. Lynch is off target a little bit and when he is delivering catchable passes the receivers are dropping them. Bad day at the office for everyone. I don't really think this game should be an indictment of Cornelson or the offense that Memphis put together for a majority of this season. It's disappointing to see Memphis struggle but I don't think it's an indicator that we should be worried about who we just hired.
That's the point I was trying to make earlier. No need to freak out because of this one game.
That was kind of my attempt by being overly optimistic about there success only coming from Fuente being physically present.
But even though they didnt execute at all; I actually thought the play calling was pretty solid.
I like that I saw some bunch route formations and some things that if I were Sam Rogers I would be pretty excited about for his likely H back role.

I watched this game and I watched the Ole Miss game (you tube replay) and it seems that Lefty wasn't far off with his comments. There were definitely some head scratcher play calls and our favorite of get lined up with 20 seconds on the play clock and then starte at the sidelines for 18 seconds. I they were more committed to the inside run game than our previous offense. Very excited to see what our current talent can do under JF leadership. Happy New Year's Eve Eve!
I think there are appropriate times to line up and see how the defense reacts- it's just not when your team is losing and there's less than 2 minutes left in the damn game.

Maybe he was thinking the line, but that's doubtful now. We return all 5 starters, while Osterloh, Pfaff, Clark, Moore, Mitchell, and Petit all are talented prospects or have spent more than a year in the program. Tech's offense is set up to win for this coach, a lot more so than when Lefty took the job.
