at vcu? that could get ugly
technically not quite vcu's home because they play in the siegal center so that should give hokies more tickets than a true away game...that and tech has a good amount of fans in richmond should make it not as bad
WVU will be at home this year. I've never been overly impressed with VCU. They're definitely obnoxious to play against, but Michigan showed why I'm not that impressed with them. Considering we're going to be practicing against a full court pressure all offseason I expect us to be more prepared for that game then people are expecting.
VCU had an off night against Michigan. You can't use that one game as a testament to the team's ability. If we did that, VT would be measured off of the UNC game. Or Pitt game. If VT beats VCU, VCU will have to be way off that night and VT will have to be spot on. I think it's going to be a blowout.
It's a high pressure defense. That means you need a good ball handler (Michigan had Burke) and good full court floor spacing. That wasn't an off night for VCU, that was a terrible matchup for them. We'll have the experience against high pressure defense so we should give them some problems.
Doesn't VCU's defense rely heavily on them making their shots? If I remember correctly, VCU missed a high number of shots that game, so Michigan was able to rebound and push the ball down the court before VCU could set up their defense.
This could be due to Michigan's defense or VCU's shooters having an off-night (or both).
They also heavily rely on their defense to lead to easy buckets. They really aren't very good in the half-court on offense.
(edit: better image)
@ohherro, VCU's press is set up when the offense scores. Their shooting was off that night (Troy Daniels couldn't make a three that game to save his life). It wasn't a good match-up for VCU, but if they shot better it could have gone either way.
They're actually pretty good in the half-court offense. VCUs half-court offense actually ranks higher compared to its peers. Synergy Sports rates the Rams transition offense in the 78th percentile at 1.11 points per trip and their half-court offense in the 87th percentile at .91 points per trip.
[considers both viewpoints, glances at VT roster/last season stats, reaches conclusion]
yeah but marquis is no trey burke. i'm not saying it's a given that they blow us out but saying you've not been impressed with vcu is kinda haterific. they're very impressive under smart.
I'll admit I hate VCU and I hate Smart. I'm just saying that people give them more credit than they deserve.
I just made the *I just smelled a nasty fart* face when I saw the topic of this thread. I am less excited about bball season this year than I've been in a very very long time
You mean the Beamer face?
that would be the one :)
Agree. Its gonna be very hard to get excited about this upcoming bball season.
Hopefully the football season goes well enough that we're not looking to basketball for a pick-me-up this year.
