Jon Laaser Interviews Bud Foster (Seth Dooley will miss spring practice)

Bud talks about his relationship with Fuente, some notes on past and future, and more:

Some takeaways:

1. Better shirt, Jon. Nicely done.
2. Seth Dooley will miss spring practice after having shoulder surgery.

I am so glad Bud is still a Hokie.

@AMB4VT

Foster also noted Tech's four freshman would be getting a lot of work during spring ball. Darius Fullwood, Houshun Gaines and Trevon Hill all redshirted. Jimmie Taylor is an early enrollee. Hill tore his ACL last March. It's a positive sign if he's ready to participate in spring ball.

Excited to see these young guys, especially Trevon Hill, hope he's actually ready to go.

Ekanem is returning. I don't know that we ever saw that fact confirmed before this interview.

Here's hoping he is a beast his senior year!

So far we have Motley, Minor, Dooley and someone else injured with surgery so far will the school release a full list?

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Mook also had surgery. #Sauces that Isaiah did as well.

Does removing the ACC from the bottom of Isaiah's cleats really count as surgery?

What's Important Now

Any new info on Tim Settle and what to expect?

Expect many double teams

I have seen some pictures from folks who saw him in Shreveport and Hokiesports snapchats. He looked lighter.

You think he had the same treatments as Michael Jackson?...and do you think that will help with football?

Reminds me of Danny Coale.

I'm just happy Jon Laaser got rid of that heinous shirt from the last round of interviews.

Laaser looks like that one dude from the early 90210 show. You all know who i'm talking about.

He remembers me of a gentle version of Bill Burr

NICE! Thats EXACTLY who he reminds me of, I couldnt think of it.

Nailed it.

Is it bad that I opened this thread just to see what people would say about Laaser's shirt?

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"
-gobble gobble chumps

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

Not unreasonable. That last shirt still haunts my dreams.

For whatever reason I still have it stuck in the back of my head that Foster/old regime may clash with Fuente and the new guys at some point but it seems Foster genuinely is excited to work with Fuente. Eases those concerns some

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Once again Bud singling out Tremaine Edmunds at the backer position and what he said was telling, imo.

He didn't just throw Tremaine to the fire because he was the most "ready-to-go" THIS year (after Clarke), he actually threw him in there to make Tremaine better & prepared for next year. Kind of goes against some saying that Lydon is the guy and Tremaine was just a stop-gap that was more ready as a freshman.

Lydon's a mike, no?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

There has been some scuttlebutt, not much mind you, that Lydon may get a look at Backer since Edmunds3 has no competition. But that assumes Motu sticks the landing at Mike.

I believe so

Yessir and I think he stays there, and could be a good one. But there have been some suggesting a need for a switch and citing Tremaine's 1st quarter vs GT among other reasons including Tremaine being "too big".

There's no arguing Tremaine struggled mightily there, but I have felt that Bud doesn't view that as a failure as much as some have. I'm no expert though, just basing off Bud's usual reasoning when he plays kids real early.

I'm thinking the competition will be coming from this recruiting class. The staff is targeting linebackers heavily in the last couple of days. Yulee is back on the table, Simms has been warming up. Belmar and Beckett look good. The position is a bit weak right now. Need to push the starters.

I never really see incoming recruits as really an option for immediate impact outside of the skill positions unless they are can't miss type players or there is a real huge need due to injuries or attrition. Especially at positions that require players to make a lot of reads like linebacker. Usually a year in the weight room to bulk up a little and to grasp the defense is needed.

Edmunds possibly to DE.
