So this is a smart reasonable change, previously just the Prospect could have his travel, lodging, and food paid for. That meant he was either on his/her own, or parents paid their own way.
Now up to 2 Parents or Guardians may accompany them.
This could be especially helpful for schools like VT that try hard to sell the family atmosphere and "everyone is on the team" culture since now the parents are more likely to be there for the influential Official Visits.

Honestly, if they can break 85 consistently the scholarships are there. Source: couple girls played on my high school men's golf team because there was no women's golf available by our overall state administration and both ended up playing on scholarship in the ACC.
You definitely want them to get recruited if they are going there haha, some of the price tags on those colleges are not cheap. USCw and USD, good god.

I mean if we are not putting the parents up at The Inn, with all you can eat from there or our best in the nation dining facilities and deluxe suites based upon how highly rated we think the kid is we are not doing recruiting right and its our own fault for not using the resources at hand.

Based on what? So long as all recruits (and now 2 parents/guardians) get free room and board on their official, is there anything that says all recruits must receive comparable accommodations? That doesn't happen in any other area of recruiting. Five and high four star recruits always get more attention in their recruiting than the average recruit. That's just the way it is. Unless there's actually a rule that every official visit must be comparable, I see no reason not to wine and dine the top recruits a little more.
I'm assuming there is a parity rule just like there is a parity rule for actual students and athletes when it comes to dorms.
I really don't think there is. They aren't even students at the University yet. I know there are guidelines about what a school can and cannot do on an official visit (no simulating a game environment, etc.) but I don't think there's anything that says all recruits must be treated equally on campus. I mean, why would this be the one area in recruiting where the NCAA says you can't play favorites in the recruiting process.

Nothing says "building a team" quite like "we're going to give this other guy a whole ton of perks that are better than yours, but we want you, too!"
At the same time its not like these kids are blind to where they are ranked by the various sites, they absolutely know who is the 5 star, who is the 4, who is the 3 etc. Yes its about making every target feel desired, but schools have to prioritize too with their limited number of scholarships, and sometimes that burns both parties.
And this holds true in every facet of recruiting. Not to open an old wound, but when Josh Sweat was nearing his decision, we sent every single assistant coach to visit him in the week leading up to his announcement. Do you think there was another recruit that got a home visit from the whole staff that cycle?
Blue chips are treated like blue chips. The problem starts when the fawning continues after the LOI is signed. First day of practice, it doesn't matter how many stars you had.
Agreed, I just think it will be interesting to see if this ever backfires. "They put up recruit X in the penthouse and my family got sent to the Motel 6 down the road." I suspect the NCAA will establish some guideline as to "fair reimbursement" value for the amount spent (e.g. prevailing hotel rates in the area, akin to the cost-of-living stipend that athletes can now get) and this will be a moot point.

They usually do, but now it's a family affair. That's the main issue I'm poking fun at - you think they're going to put Mom and Dad up in a dorm?
I really think they're gonna keep the parents on campus. Probably at The Inn. I'm guessing if parents choose to stay off campus we'll just reimburse them, but I'm thinking What's default preference will be to have the parents on campus so we can wine and dine them.
In a VT-centric view this makes perfect sense. I'm sure the Athletic Department wants to tightly control their entire experience, so housing everyone at The Inn is fine. I'm thinking broader, across college football. Not every school has a lovely hotel on campus, so decisions will have to be made about who to put where, e.g. chance for disparity. That's all. And just to be clear, I really don't think this is a huge deal, just sort of poking fun at the prospect.
It's a good idea to reimburse parents for their travel, but you can bet coaching staff are already at work trying to figure out how to game this.

Really surprising to see see sensible and NCAA in the same sentence. This reform makes sense, especially when you try to recruit from all aspects of people and some cannot afford to travel. Hopefully this gets more recruiticorns to the burg!
Easy Answer... Recruits talk and 99.9% of them get the same treatment from the same school. Obviously different schools have bigger budgets so that's where it can differ.
Maybe some kids likes peeps and another likes snickers. Well weird peeps kid gets peeps and snickers kid gets snickers. One kid likes pop other kid likes kool aid. You guessed it pop to the pop kid, kool aid to the kool aid kid.
A ton of planning and paying attention to the little details goes into hosting recruits and family's. A HUGE reason why Clemson and others have so many support staff people.
For the parents most schools work out deals with nicer local hotels. Sounds like The Inn is on campus so if bet a ton of parents stay there.
I do know a recruits parents that are coming up this weekend are staying at Hilton Garden Blacksburg..
