With General Public season ticket sales in full swing I wanted to ask the TKP community how the process works for Hokie Club Members. I've ordered my season ticket and now what? What is the process to pick my seat? Where are best seats? When should I hear about parking pass. Any other information you would like to pass on to help a first time buyer.

You'll get an email about picking seats in a month or so. It'll have a date/time along with login information to the website where you do it.
A month or so!!!
That's just the start You won't actually pick your seats for another month after that unless you're really high up the totem pole.
I'm around 7500 of 9800 Hokie Club members I think.
The system is automated now. Once you have your login and you assigned seat selection date and time you login to the system (you can log in early and look around). Look for available seats (green dots), select your seats, and complete your order. If you are a returning season ticket holder your seats from last year will automatically be selected for you. You are allowed to change seats to any open seat(s).
kinda OT but unfortunately I decided not to renew my season tickets. Kind of a weak home game schedule, no real big home games to look forward to outside of the Miami thursday night game. I will be making the trek down to Bristol and South Bend though
This is my thoughts and my exact plan for footballing this year. Bristol and hopefully South Bend.
Realize it's personal preference, but I prefer the even year schedules over odd years since we get our 3 biggest ACC rivals at home (UVA, Miami, GT). Even though none of them are coming off a good season, I still look forward to playing those teams over Pitt, Duke, or UNC. It's unfortunate there's no marquee home game this season, but then again, the big OOC home games only come along every ~4 years, and Clemson and FSU are each only going to roll into Lane once every 12 years. I should probably also add a disclaimer that seeing my college friends is just as much or more of my reason for going to the games as the actual opponent any given week.
+1 on looking forward to road trips to Bristol and South Bend. (And Syracuse for that matter... I never made it while we were in the Big East and still need to cross the Carrier Dome off my list).
For you guys that go to away games, how do you normally obtain tickets? And when do you start looking? I'd like to go to Syracuse while I'm up here.
Depends on the location. For stadiums that routinely sellout their games (e.g. Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc.), I typically order through the Hokie Club. The seats usually aren't in the best section but they are guaranteed seats (assuming you're high enough Hokie Club priority to get them) and they're with other Hokie fans. For stadiums that don't usually sellout, I usually just buy directly through the away team's athletic department or on the secondary market. I haven't looked closely at Syracuse specifically yet, but I will probably not order through Tech for that game.
I don't think you will be waiting much longer for your email that contains your seat selection time. I looked through my email archives to confirm the dates the last 3 years, and the emails came on 4/15/13, 4/16/14, and 4/27/15. That said, based on the HC priority you mentioned above, I would wager your seat selection time will be in late May or early June. Parking selection occurs at the same time as seat selection.
Seat selection emails sent out. I'm on June 2nd 10:15 am. It seems too far away.
Where are others seat selections dates and times?
I have 2 since I added seats to the 4 I already have. June 2nd and June 9th. Hopefully, when I pick on the 9th the seats that are open next to my other 4 will still be open. SO, NO ONE PICK THOSE!!!
May 9 @ 9:56am for me
June 1 at 2PM
I'm going halfsies with my dad who's a Hokie Club member, we've got May 31 at 10:47 am.
I've got June 7, which is pretty irrelevant since the seats I have are the ones I want.
May 17th, 9:47 am. Golden Hokie
May 17th, too.
May 25th, 9:18am. Silver hokie
May 24 3:16 Silver Hokie
For you veterans how much time do I have to pick seats? This being my first year of full season tickets I might need some time.
I can't remember, but you can look at the website to see the open seats before your timeslot. So, if you have your eye on certain seats you can keep tabs on whether they're free or not. In the past, I would come up with plans A,B,C....and if they were taken I'd move straight to the next.
Agree here, they move more quickly than you would anticipate. I spent time beforehand and had four sets I wanted; two were gone before I could select. In addition, I am an idiot and didn't read this, but you can't leave stranded single seats. Keep that in mind, it is important in selecting the ones you like. You may see great seats that are still open, but it could be because it would leave a single seat and you can't pick those two.
We only bought a single season ticket this year since baby 4 is due first week of Oct. Mrs Fireman won't make any regular season games this year.
Then you have a huge advantage in picking tickets! Good stuff. Also my 1st baby is due October 7th, congrats!
Congrats, man to just have one kid those were easy days.
I think it is like 30 minutes or so
It is. If you miss it, someone will call you. If you miss that, you get the seats picked for you.
Fireman, what I did last year was check out the website in the weeks leading up
to selection and see what's available. Obviously, less and less were as the
date approached. But it still gives you a good idea and you're ready when your
slot arrives.
June 8th at like 1pm-ish...if this were a totem pole I'd be apart of the footer.
I'm playing around in the seat selection website and there are ALOT of open seats. Does anyone sit in ends one? How do you like it?
lower South endzone is nice for touchdown passes in the Southside and getting to and from seats, but it's rather sleepy if there's not a touchdown being scored.
the new, bigger, jumbotron makes it better for watching the Northside now
Atmosphere: D-
Ease of getting to/from seating from the Gate/Bathroom: A
East Side Is the opposite of that
so which ever you like better choose
West Side
Atmosphere: B
Ease of Getting to/from seating/bathroom: B
East Stands Sunburn on the left side of your face gets an A+
If you want to get the seats in Touchdown Terrace next to us with just one row in front of you (upper deck), let me know. I can look up the numbers.
I personally love it up there, but not everyone enjoys being in a corner (I prefer it so that no on walks by us on their way in/out and there's no one behind us with just the one row in front).
That costs extra right?
Yep. $500 donation per seat.
That's not going to happen, not with baby 4 on the way.
Ladies and gents, no matter where you have seats this year expect to select all over again next year even if your currently happy with your seats cause it's about to change!
The big seat reassignment just happened a few years back... do you have credible #sauces for this???
Most of this is rumor based on #sauces. While it may be true, no one can confirm it yet. That's what all of the town hall meetings they have scheduled will confirm (or rebuke).
There will also be a letter sent out this week.
Looks like Lot 17 was taken off the availability list this year. That's a lot of potential parking spaces gone.
I see what you did there...
Anyone else been looking over the seat selection website shocked by how many parking passes are left, 851, as of 7:25pm May 31st.
Also TKP opinion poll. Do I get a West Side seat in row AA on the 47 on sit way high in the East Side?
It would surprise me if they didn't sellout season parking, but I'm guessing most of the remaining spots are in Lot 20.
If "way high" is a quadruple or quintuple letter, I'd take West Side row AA.
58 spots in Lot 5 then rest scattered around farther out lots.
Are there actually any spots (i.e. green dots) available when you click into Lot 5, or is it just showing 58 available spots in Lot 5 in the overview? I've seen the latter happen; I'm not entirely sure of the reason although my assumption is they are handicap spaces that are reserved for those who need and thus not able to be selected in the normal process.
No green dots but there are open spots with no red dots.
Yeah, you could contact the VTTO to see why that occurs, but like I mentioned, my assumption has always been that it's handicap parking. You won't be able to pick a spot in Lot 5 (or any reserved lot) if there isn't a green dot to click.
Hey Fireman. I've always gone west due to the shielding from the sun which blasts the east side.
To your seats question, I buy 2 tickets and never been able to get that low... I was 6L RRR last year and 6L JJJ now. I still think at AA you won't be 'too low' where your view of the whole field is impacted.
I'd take AA on the 47. That's pretty awesome. For perspective, we had seats around that same height, though further to the North side when we went to the Duke game. I can't remember the exact row, but it wouldn't be more than a couple ahead of AA. This was the view:
It was a great view the entire time, only a little difficult when the action was down beyond about the 30-yd line in the South. You'd be doing a lot better at the 47.
That's my thought, plus with seat changes coming I'll never be in that area again. I'm still shocked how many parking passes there still are.
Go with the AA in West stands. If you can't make a game, they will be an easier sell. We are taking the same approach this year. Getting the best (lowest) seats because we'll never see them again after next year's reseating and new points system.
I hope that is a joke. The 47 is great position on the field, west side trumps east side anyday, and AA is not too low.
I don't know if I'm normally a West Side person. I like to stand most of the game, don't enjoy dirty looks when my kids are being well kids and I'm new to the season ticket ranks.
Personally I'm strongly in the East side camp, regardless of proximity to field because I abhor sitting at football games. The several times I've had west seats, they've had incredible views and I was miserable the whole time because football games are high energy, loud affairs for me, and being forced to sit ruins the experience. West-siders also don't typically yell when we're on defense. Expect to sit literally the whole time, and to feel bad about jumping up to celebrate a big play.
I also recognize that I have weirdly strong feelings on this matter, so if those don't apply to you, West all day.
Also, I've had 4A-4D every year, and the view is still great and probably better for detailed football watching as you see the whole field.
I've got the same philosophy as you, and I've got my tickets squared away, - BBBB on the 40 /East/Side
Ok do I pick lot 13 right off West Campus Dr or Lot 9 off Duck Pond??
I run a tailgate in Lot 13. If you pick there, you're welcome to join us if you'd like. (Note: I do mean Lot 13, not Lot 13A ... can be confusing on the map)
Well crap this is Lot 13A.
Got my seat selection 47 yard line Row AA AND a parking pass for Lot 13A. I'm way too excited about this.
Got my normal seats and actually moved up to the lot I was hoping would still be available for our normal tailgate (was in 17 last year, moved up to 18 this year). Seems like a lot of the displaced folks snagged up Lot 17 since it's paved, which is fine by me!
How many parking passes and seats were still available? Lot 17 will be an RV lot this year.
There were over 100 in the lot over by public parking, and 80 some in 18.
They may not actually sell out of them.
I have the site pulled up as I type, there are 74 spaces in Lot 18 and 19 in Lot 5B....everything else seems to be taken.
Didn't want to start a whole new thread for this. Virginia Tech was honored for its season ticket sales campaign and the #Thisishome campaign. Things are looking up. Also saw today that basketball season tickets have sold 4 times as many in same time period as last year.

Season Tickets will be here tomorrow!! I'm ready to start jumping now.
