Bud Foster surfing Claytor Lake is your friendly reminder that Virginia Tech football is still a waves ways away.

That's where I first learned to: waterski, motorboat, small boat sail, snorkel, row in a shell and stuff.

Lake Gaston and the Nottoway River for me, but I also grew up on the eastern side of the state. I still have 'visit Claytor Lake' on my to-do list.

mcgruber, did you row for tech?

In EVERY other alternate timeline and dimension...yes.

How many other D-cordinators can surf behind a boat on a lake. Gotta love our head d-man. In Bud we trust.

wakesurfing is the best

this needs to be on twitter ASAP.. recruits would eat this up

Who wouldn't want to come play for a Top DC and a dude that shreds?

never seen wake surfing before--sure beats waiting for the big wave days when you can create your own...

think we can leverage some sort of navy connection to get video of bud doing this behind an aircraft carrier or something?

I KNEW IT!!! I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING OTHERWORLDLY AND TIMELINE ABOUT BUD FOSTER!!!

This looks kinda fun but as someone who fishes alot these people piss me off more than any other. Usually on Lake anna it's groups of kids running circles in same area doing this while knowing they are messing with the fishermen.

He didn't look like they were going terribly fast. Generally I like to fish in a cove on Claytor to stay out of the boaters way.

Stay off of lakes like Claytor on the weekend. It is just the New River backed up some, not very wide and tough to fish when the crowds are out. I have seen Bud on Claytor several times, but he was always driving the boat. I'd have loved to see this action.
And while kids skiing and wake surfing all over fishermen also pisses me off, it is the jet skis that make me want to chunk a musky lure with three monster trebles at those idiots who love to intrude on personal space. Maybe a one week season every year to thin them out? Rock salt loads in a goose gun maybe?

HokieV20...as in "Carolina flair" Wellcraft V20?

My first boat ever was a '78 V20 (random inter-web pic shown). This hull is arguably the best (mass produced) ever made per dollar.

Just a fabulous boat, and I will have another someday.

And as an aside...and continuing my blatant/TKP style/completely shameless/thread hijack...I picked up a legendary Willy Roberts flats boat here in the Keys for a mere $100 that I plan to restore.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

My dad once told me, 'the two best days in a man's life are the day he buys his boat and the day he sells his boat.'

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Oooh I'm gonna use this. Don't have a boat (yet) and I'm not a dad (also yet) but that's a very dad thing to say, which I'm all about

That's why it is best to not own a boat, but have a friend that owns a boat. Then you just show up with a six pack and have fun, get to leave and avoid all the maintenance work.

And we boat owners just LOVE friends like you.

Lmao, what? You throw a party do you expect people to come over before to set up? And the next day to put things back? That's the thing about having a boat, you get to host people, but you gotta put work into maintaining it.

Nah, just going for the laugh. I routinely fish with guys with bigger boats, and while being as helpful as I can, it is never like the owner's work. I feel the same way when I am hosting in my boat. Help me get off and on the trailer, and that's about it. It is fun to host, the work is a small price, but I agree with you, it is fun to be hosted.

Actually no.....I have a Legend V20....bass boat

Dude rips. He so haole he doesn't even know he's haole. I would tell him but...

Solid reference.

Also, I seem to remember you having a cameo in that film...

What is the lady in the sand in front of HOAT doing in that picture? Kinda looks like they're checking each other out.

I'm pretty sure the only movies I watched as a kid were Rad, North Shore and Top Gun.

I didn't find North Shore until college but it became an instant classic in our apartment. Just in case you hadn't heard, the guy who played Turtle had never been a surfer before filming the movie, then he quit everything to live the surfer life and he's been happy ever since.

Seems like a video of this comes out every offseason.

Its an annual rite of passage for Hokie newbies

isn't there one of him doing a flip while wakeboarding?

I have a feeling this one will be quite useful in the future:

I love how he casually adjusts the trunks 5-6 seconds in. Dude has it under control.

lots and lots of early mornings spent rowing on that lake.... Usually was a good time, so long as the other guys in the boat werent hung over...... then it wasnt a good time. lol

Hungover checking in.

Makes me miss the North Landing river. Being back on the water might be what gets me to leave Blacksburg. Yeah, there's the New River but it's just not the same. Not enough salt for me, I guess

Grew up in Chesapeake, fishing mostly the Northwest River, with a fair amount of North Landing and the Suffolk Lakes. While the OBX became the focus later in life, those days on the blackwater (daddy called it juniper water) still loom large in my memories of fishing and boyhood.

Same, I grew up in Southampton county fishing the Blackwater, Nottaway and James rivers. Occasionally we'd venture out to the bay and go to the lighthouse and bay bridge tunnel.

You will see bud at rock house marina occasionally. Surprising his house on the lake isn't as big as you would think. Very normal actually.

Me the whole video waiting for him to do a sweet trick....

then he pulls this...

almost though!
