Football may take the spotlight in the fall and basketball in the spring, but this summer, four Virginia Tech students competing against other schools in a physically and mentally intense obstacle course will be featured this summer for millions of viewers on ESPN, the world's most widely watched sports broadcasting network.
The BattleFrog College Championship will air on ESPN at 8 p.m. each night from June 30 to July 2, and will feature a team of four Virginia Tech students β who didn't meet one another until the night before their flight to the competition.
I missed the VT team heat but they advanced tonight.

Battlefrog?
I had the same thought
This was probably the single hardest thing I did as a child, playing Battletoads.
The hardest thing I ever tried was the Rumpelstiltskin riddle in King's Quest
Hardest thing I've done is fording the river. I've lost countless oxen as a child.
True story... my wife hates that game because she always overloaded the cart at the beginning and could never leave St. Louis....
typical

Funny, she never looked Druish to me
Or climbing the beanstalk. Or walking on the branch to get the golden egg.
So the VT team was a second seed and have the 2nd fastest time on the course: 2:16 behind only West Point at 2:09.
VT did well last year but West Point smoked everyone.
Kinda random question but somewhat related:
Are civilian students at VT allowed to practice/use the military obstacle course by the Duck Pond?
I used it once and I'm a civilian. It was also night time and I may or may not have been under the influence. It did not end well.
ditto...in fact, not sure I even did the whole thing...just parts of it. don't remember clearly though
No they are not. The only times I ran it legally were under supervision of a cadet in TAC who had been given permission by someone in the commandant's office to let us train on it. Once a campus cop stopped and demanded that we show we had permission. Cadet buddy had gotten written approval so the cop didn't give us any crap. We invited him to run it with us but he declined. BTW, my PR was 45 seconds, which I thought was pretty good til I found out how fast some of the TAC guys can run it.
I could climb the rope during practice, but when running the whole course my upper body strength was too drained to climb the rope all the way up at the end. I think I was making good time too, but that rope at the end is brutal.
I actually borrowed some boots to run through on my best time. Really helped with the rope at the end. You don't realize how much you pull your weight off your feet when you don't have the rigidity of the boots to keep the rope from squeezing your feet. You rely a lot less on your arms, which are completely shot by that point.
I got caught up in it last night while drinking beer and laying on the couch. Not surprising that the two males on VT's team are in the VTCC/TAC and one of the women plans on joining the Marines.
Also, did anyone see the one racer from Ole Miss took on the rope climb? Here she is last year, but she did the same thing this year:
Anyway, you can catch it on WatchESPN if you have a subscription:

I noticed almost all the girls who did the rope climb did it that way. It's smart. I never would have thought of that.
at that point it's not really a rope climb anymore...
I say more power to them, they found a way to ring the bell as fast as possible within the rules.
It's important to ring the bell as quickly as you can.
Off topic:
Hey so I figured some former/current cadets are reading this thread...my friend's little brother is starting at VT this fall. His goal is to become a doctor in the Army or Navy. He want to become a member of the VTCC but he's worried it'll be too much of a time commitment to be pre-med and VTCC at the same time. What should I tell him?
It's absolutely possible. There was a guy 2 years behind me that was in ROTC, HTs, Pre-Med, and on the VT EMS. It's all about motivation, time management, and studying.
That was close on that baton slap. Very close.
GT up next!
More work on the rope.
I think he might still have won if he went back, but looked like he was getting tired.
A replay FINALLY went the right way! If the video evidence is inconclusive you don't overturn the call on the field, YOU HEAR THAT PAC 12!!!!!
Anyone else who watched think the 3rd leg female might have an injury?
Beat the Hokies? Sorry, GT:
The 3rd leg has to figure out a better way up the rope ladder to the bell.
That pretty much sums up our loss to army. Someone earlier pointed out how to use your boots on the rope to take pressure off the arms. Could have been the difference in the championship lap,
But we did come close. Second out of 16 schools isn't bad.
Helps if you're wearing boots.
Honestly that one jump flip and kick bell seemed like fastest way.
Yeah but you have to be able to do it and then if you miss it is a huge time loss.
Been reading up on this. The VT team didn't meet each other until the day before they left for GA to practice and film for 5 days, but the West Point team has multiple members who practice almost year round. Seems like a huge advantage.
