Virginia Tech Opens as 11-Point Underdog to Tennessee

South Point added betting lines for the upcoming college football season. The Las Vegas casino listed the Hokies as 11-point underdogs to the Volunteers at the Battle at Bristol. Tech's also +3.5 at Pittsburgh on October 27 and a 9.5-point favorite against Virginia on November 26.

Pretend you have 100 fake internet dollars, given the three lines above, how are you placing your bets?

Tenn- money on Tech to keep score closer (not sure gambling term for that) $40
Pitt- Tech to win $30
UVA- Tech to win by more $30

If the Hokies keep the score closer than the point spread then its called beating the spread.

Still jealous that you were at Disney this month, by the way.

I put all my money on the Hokies to heighten the euphoria of crushing all 3.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Best chance to win as underdog is in an early game, so I'd put all the cash on the Tennessee game.

Have no fear, for underdog is here !

Yes, you can bet a parlay. If a 3-game parlay, you must correctly pick all 3 games to win money, but get paid substantially more than 3 individual picks. This is typically limited, however, to games played in one day, weekend, or round.

I would put 40 on Tech to cover against UT, 30 on Pitt to cover, and 30 on UVA to cover. Those lines are pretty large an opening.

$100 to beat the spread against Tennessee. Not touching Pitt at Heinz Field. And 9.5 is way too many points to give UVA after struggling to beat them the past 4 years, but only a fool would bet on UVA to beat the spread

All $100 on the money line vs. UTenn. It's all about the payout.

I'll put all $100 down that I'll be fairly intoxicated during all 3 games. Anyone wanna give me odds? I'll take all comers.......

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

That's a sure fire loser bet.

Better question is: now that I have bought a house, when is the next split of those Hokie Asian Lilies?

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

think i can do it this fall......will let u know when i do.....

I would have thought we'd be 3.5 point underdogs vs Pitt.

Tech is the dog against Pitt, typo on my part.

One hundred genuine internet dollars on the Hokies beating Tennessee straight up. All the winnings on the Hokies covering the spread against Pitt. Assuming I can get 2:1 odds on the UT(enn) bet, I'll have 600 internet dollars to bet on the Hokies covering the spread over UVA, they will, and I'll be buying internet drinks for all of you

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

I'll have a Rip Van Winkle. Thank you.

Tech to cover spread against TN 75.00
Pitt WTF knows 0.00
uva covers but we win (again) 25.00

When I gamble I like a sure thing so 100% on the Hokies to cover in our annual pre-bowl game scrimmage

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

That's a steep spread for such a rare neutral site game early in the season. All $100 for hokies to beat the spread. I'd bet early too..it will only shrink as game time approaches.

I'd say that's a fair line. Honestly see us losing by 10 to 14.

I agree.

All $100 on Tech beating that spread (and tennessee). Wouldn't even think of betting the other two games.

Yeah, I'd have to put a hundo on the good guys beating the spread in Bristol. Pitt is always a toss up and even though they're UVA, rivalry games are crazy.

$100 against Tennessee, without the spread.

I actually like the book on all three of these games. The Hokies should be able to stay at least 10 points away from UT. I think they will be beat Pitt outright, and we're due for another episode of 38-0 bro.

I would spread $33 a piece on each game, and then use the leftover dollar to buy a lottery ticket.

I'd put all my money on covering the spread vs Pitt

Onward and upward

I'd probably take a 6 point teaser on all 3 bets.

VT then gets +17 against UT.
VT then +9.5 at Heinz Field
VT then -3.5 against UVA.

I feel good about all the games except maybe Pitt, because it is where VT dreams go to die and we don't know who our QB is yet.

The Dude Abides

I'd put all 100 interbucks on VT+11 at Bristol. That seems like the safest bet at this point in time and should provide me with sufficient bankroll to go nuts on the others once I've seen a little more of the new team and the lines settle in as the season progresses.

While I want with every fiber of my being to crush Pitt on the road, recent history tells me that nothing's certain in that godforsaken hellhole. As for loluva, it's way too early to tell if Mendenhall will be able to turn them into a somewhat respectable team or what the injury bug may do to either team. Also, 9-1/2 is an awfully large spread this far in advance for a game between two teams with new coaches, especially in a rivalry game. Betting on these games is generally a fool's errand. (See 2015 Red River Shootout for but one of many such examples.)

two years ago I wouldn't have bet against the spread for the OSU game....just saying

Onward and upward

I did, but then again, I'm an eternal optimist in the offseason. It's also worth noting that 2106 UT is nowhere near as good as 2014 OSU.

I did. And felt so unstoppable that I put all I won down against ECU.

3 game parlay for 3 W's. If I believe enough, it will come true

I have bet on the Hokies three times in my life. We have lost all three. I will not even fake bet fake money on us ever again. However, I would not bet against us on any of those odds, so I guess I guess I'm just watching and cheering like usual.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Fuck it, let's just win it outright.

Considering UT still has over 2 months for a bunch of their players to be arrested or tossed out school, I am putting it all on VT to win outright.

Considering the possibilities on those hot summer nights in K-Vegas, this is a well placed point indeed, sir.
