My wife asked me the other day how many times in a row the Hokies have beaten LOLUVA. After giving her the #12inarow answer I got to thinking about the streak. At some point the streak will end. Lucky break, fluke 60 yd field goal, something will end this streak. When would it hurt me more to have it end, after reaching a milestone like 20 in a row or prior to reaching a major milestone? So I thought what better platform to talk about his than TKP. So let's hear your thoughts on this.

Whenever it happens you can bet your ass those zima drinking pricks will crawl out from under the rock they were hiding under and be out in full force talking shit. So yeah, the goal must be to never lose to them again. Ever.

If it goes 3-4 more times, I wonder if Bronco would be out? Not necessarily getting fired, but he doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would be able to swallow that pill. He may decide the reclamation project can't work and bail if that happens.

I've thought this through before and came to the conclusion that it will end. I think.
But the circumstances of its ending is what concerns me. I wish it would have ended three years ago because:
1) it wouldn't be a thing anymore
2) the longer it goes the more painful the eventual loss will be
3) Frank would have been able to win the last game he coached against LOLUVA anyway
4) we weren't in contention for anything significant anyway
5) we would have still been bowl eligible
But since it still goes on, I'm left with only one hope:
The streak ends in such a way that we are not stopped from achieving anything significant along the way, like:
1) becoming bowl-eligible,
2) allowing LOLUVA to become bowl eligible,
3) LOLUVA achieving a higher standing in the division than us at season's end,
4) winning the division, or
5) knocking us out of playoff contention.
As long as they beat us in a year where they will still rank below us regardless of the outcome, and we will not win the division regardless, then I'll be sad but not destroyed. Think of the way Pitt beat WVU in the last game of the year to keep them out of the BCS MNC game. That had to hurt. That's what I want to avoid.

I want this to go on for as long as possible. I've been fairly obnoxious at times during the last 12 years and if they ever win again, I know some UVA fans that will probably call me immediately after the game ends and I'm not ready to deal with that yet
When Syracuse beat us...sometime in the 2003-2005 timeframe, I forget which year...my buddy, who I consider a good friend but I hadn't talked to since high school (2000 HS grad) called me immediately to gloat. What a bastard.
The last time Cuse beat us was in '02 in the Carrier Dome. The following season, (the farewell season in the Big lEast), we beat the shit outta them. Now I think they lead the series 1 game (or it's tied). So we got the last laugh.

Funny story about that game (and yes, this is a tangent).
I was a freshman in the corps that year. We got unity pass for that game. Meaning, we all got to go to Squires as a group to watch it. It was a 3:30 game, so I think the deal was, the pass lasted until 8 pm, and then we had to be back in the dorm, unless we won, in which case we got an extra hour. Under normal circumstances, that would have given us some time to hang out after the game regardless.
Except that freaking triple OT lasted forever, and since we lost, we only had just enough time to run up to upper quad and get in the dorm.
i kind of agree and sort of as a tangent to this...
would it make it better if it happened this year because the team is still getting used to fuente's system or next year because it is at loluva?
so if we are 7-4 and uva is 4-7 heading in to the loluva game for the next two years, which one would you rather give up? do you lose this year, get it out of the way chalk it up to the team not having the system down (but a loss at home to loluva)? or do you give up next year's game and chalk it up to being a fluke rivalry road game loss (but a step back of sorts in fuente's second year)?
in my ideal world we beat them 45 years in a row (breaking the record by 2) and losing number 46 at loluva in what i think would be 2047

In think I kinda would like to lose to them (if we have to) when they're "good". 4-7...VT lost to the worst team in the league - adding insult to insult. Say they were 8-3, at home, our post season fates already sealed, and we just run out of gas or have key injuries, giving them their (one) best season in decades. {sandwiched between 15 win seasons for the good guys, of course}
There's no good way to lose to LOLUVA in football. I hope the streak continues forever, and I'm personally looking forward to Fuente sending Bronco packing in 3-4 years. The fans of theirs that I know brag enough every year when we beat them; I can only imagine how terrible it would be if we would happen to lose. This is how deluded they are - had a conversation with a guy a few weeks ago who was talking about how good LOLUVA football was because they were ranked #1 in the nation for three weeks back in 1990. Apparently one week at #1 in the polls nearly 30 years ago is better than the sustained success Tech has had over the past 25 years and playing for a national title.
In short, I hope the streak goes on forever. Can't stand that football team or fanbase at all.
I suppose the best way for it to end would be if they won on a fluke when the season overall were still successful, and that particular loss didn't cost anything significant.
Any loss to UVa at this point would hurt, though. There's just no way to put a happy face on unfortunate events.
As others have said, it would have to be a loss that didn't de-rail other accomplishments. Think anOSU's loss to us in 2014. So, basically it would have to have been our only loss on the way to an ACC championship, playoff berth, and National Championship. And even then, it would be nearly unbearable. I would demand a 6 TD win the following November.
As long as we beat them more in a row than Notre Dame beat Navy which is the current record, I am good...

This year the game falls on my birthday. I'm really hoping this isn't my worst birthday ever.

At least that's what I'll keep repeating while I roll around on the floor in a ball of shame. I reserve the right to wallow in self pity for at least 24 hours, at which point I damn well have another game to focus on. Preferably a conference championship, but I'll also accept a bowl.
The only correct answer is that it should never end. In fact, if loluva never won another game in any sport that would be ideal. But since you asked, I'll say the year 2145. My youngest was born in 2014, so even if my grandkids live to be 100 they will never have to endure the shame of a loss to loluva.
