PSA: No coolers allowed at the Battle at Bristol

No outside food or beverage of any kind. That kinda puts a damper on things.

For tail gating? No way.

Important: this refers exclusively to coolers inside the gates. BMS normally allows you to bring in one small cooler. For this game, that's prohibited.

"Exit light..."

This is for the best. Tensions will be high and it would be dangerous to allow fans to bring in their own alcohol. Obviously some fans will sneak it in but that policy of allowing coolers inside the track is much more appropriate for a NASCAR race where your favorite driver probably isn't going to win anyway

Weeeeeaaaaak.

The ass pocket does NOT abide!!!

If you play it, they will win.

But it does still hide

The Dude Abides

It always hides until I get through the gates.

Also note only clear plastic bag allowed inside (18" X 18" X 6" max size) and for the ladies, only a small clutch purse allowed.

That's a decent sized clear bag of whiskey tho.

Out with the bags of wine, in the the bags of bourbon

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

This will really hurt the waterboys

@VTimHokie85

I hope its not hot.

We put the K in Kwality

100K+ bodies packed in. Its gonna be hot.

The Dude Abides

Ringed by a highway of blacktop that will have been baking all day in the sun. Yep, gonna be hot.

The track is concrete except for the apron so there is that...

Will they be selling beer? If so, I am skipping paying my mortgage that month since I know it will be insane prices.

The Dude Abides

Alcohol is being sold inside, that is confirmed. And if we are lucky they will be running a special like $9 beer night..

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

sounds like FedEx prices!

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

Worst stadium ever.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Lmao, there is gonna be soooo much corn'd whiskey at this game.

It would actually probably be less sloppy if they let folks bring in beer in coolers. The alternative is sneaking in copious amounts of whiskey and we all know how that ends.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

If you play it, they will win.

Typing with much experience from the Nascar arena of things here, when you tailgate like a champ and then go into the race with a champion's mentality, one typically ends up not remembering the race (especially Bristol...it's like watching a damn washing machine for 3hrs). I realize this isn't a race, but I'm actually kinda happy we can't take in alcohol...this kind of atmosphere, my liver may indeed fail me.

Oh, well. Just have to take in my black tar heroin.

YouTube highlighted this video for me yesterday. I'm not lucky enough to be attending this game, but I think you all will find this video produced by Bristol Motor Speedway very informational.

$20 says her orange top is not coincidental

Definitely not.

Looks peach to me

Looks a lot closer to burnt orange than that crappy shade Tenn uses. Just sayin'.

"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"

I'd give her $20 for it.

Sorry, did I miss the point?

Bristol just changed this tailgate from a marathon to a sprint. As I said on the Twitters, a major draw of having this game at a NASCAR track was the NASCAR tailgating experience - especially bringing in your own coolers. I have tailgated for both, and there is far less pressure and incentive to go to Hammeredtown before a NASCAR race when you can BYOB. It really downgrades the experience to being closer to that of an NFL stadium or neutral-site game... aka FedEx Field South. And after making money off of ticket sales, sponsorships, etc. etc. etc. now they can gouge us on beer prices. Although as Tennessee is the home team and the SEC does not allow alcohol sales at their stadiums, there's a decent chance this is conference-driven.

NO TWEEDY, IT'S WHIP!!!!!!!

From day one I never saw the possibility of them letting us carry a cooler in to this. I mean I'm all about the NASCAR, we love going. But in the end they couldn't condone allowing two groups of what would potentially be mainly college age kids(most of which would be underage) sitting in the stands with all of that alcohol. NASCAR can get away with that, its a different sort of environment.

Maybe for northern schools... Maybe

But not in the Bible Belt where blue laws are as prevalent as they are

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I'll only speak for myself. I don't think it would be a good idea to allow me to have a cooler of alcohol that I could blatantly drink from if we give up a touchdown in the 4th quarter. Fans of both teams would not enjoy my presence, especially if there are children around. I would probably be vulgar and obnoxious, but that doesn't even get into the countless number of fights that would surely happen when 150,000 try to file out of the gates together

yeah, I don't really want to be around that many pissed off, drunk Tennessee fans after we upset them.
