Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke is stepping down from his position in June 2017. Bobinski was hired as Tech's athletic director in Jan. 2013, replacing Dan Radakovich. Perhaps the most notable event of his tenure was his decision to fire basketball coach Brian Gregory and hire coach Josh Pastner in April and May of this year.
He also oversaw the compilation of a strategic plan for the athletic department, a guiding document with a mission statement and objectives that was completed in June.
Bobinski's last appearance before media was on Tuesday at the football team's media day. As might be expected, Bobinski gave no indication of a planned departure, as he spoke with optimism about the football season and gave updates on various department matters.
This has been an interesting year of surprises with AD's moving around and taking surprise jobs. Does not bode well for ole Paul Johnson if they have another bad season.

When new ADs take over, they generally like to make their mark early, and that generally comes with making sure they have their guy in one of the higher profile sports. For Whit, it was basketball. For GT, that could be football, basketball, or baseball, but considering what happened with football last year... Let's just say CPJ might want to be working on that resume at some point this year.
He sure got a low pressure job at Purdue.
Maybe money, maybe pressure, maybe seeing writing on the wall, but seems like a HUGE step down.
Paul Johnson might be safe for a couple of years unless the new AD is a huge money maker. Somehow CJP has a fully guaranteed contract, so every time he has a good year he extends it and keeps the payoff requirement sky high.
Can you blame him for wanting to get out of GT? I mean, when you have to interact with this guy regularly?
I'd want to get away as fast as possible too.
and on the flip side, you have to deal with everyone else having just re-signed him to the mother of all contracts.

The AD turnover this year has really interested me. With Missouri losing two AD's both to lesser profile programs. This surprise of GT AD leaving. It seems abnormal or at least more front and center in the media.
The upheaval at Missouri, in terms of both university administration, and the football team itself, explains why people are jumping ship, even if it is to take a "lesser" job.
I would understand it of one of them didn't leave for the dumpster fire that is Baylor.

So many First World Problems, its truly difficult to know where to start
For a major P5 college to take an entire football game production on a trans Atlantic flight on a plane suited to cargo is not ok. Why would any AD think it is.
Well, this is the same AD who thought he was getting a deal by not hiring an offensive coordinator and using a playbook that hadn't been updated since WWII. So, all in all, this seems pretty consistent.
okay, without knowing any details this sounds kind of ridiculous. If a plane doesn't have wifi or movies or gaming consoles that doesn't make it a cargo plane. I grew up flying to England on planes that gave you a pillow, blanket, and a meal. That's it. As long as they got a meal I really don't see a problem with it and complaining about it is petty and juvenile. If they didn't get any water or food then I would agree that they may be justified in complaining. But for a 8 hour trans-Atlantic flight without wifi they can grow the f*** up and get creative. Read a book. Take a nap. Don't whine and moan because you can't post your stupid selfies. /rantover
I think its more about the nickel and dime-ing from an athletic department that has plenty of money. Thats a showcase for the whole program and a really special trip for everyone going, and according to the article there was a lot of stuff going on in the background with them being cheap about the whole trip. I think the plane was more of a boiling over point than anything else. I'd be kind of pissed if the VT athletic department was doing something similar to one of our teams, these kids are making the school millions of dollars. Don't cheap out on the trip of a lifetime for a lot of these kids
I don't know why my post didn't show up under the original post here, but my 1 experience flying international on Omni wasn't great. The plane was old, the seat felt like the cushion hadn't been replaced since the plane went into service. Half way across the Atlantic I felt like was sitting on metal.
Omni has passenger flights. Mainly through contracts.
For the record, they were flying Omni Air... Here's the situation they had with their "unacceptable cargo quality amenities"
Apologies if I don't have to many sympathies for those first world problems they've been saddled with in Atlanta. I mean hell those seats look enormous compared to the average seat I get whenever I fly Delta out of RDU.
Do planes have wifi anyway? This is a serious question. Last time I was on an airplane cell phones still had 7 segment displays.

I flew on an Omni flight in route to Afghanistan. It didn't take me into Afghanistan, only went as far as Kuwait on that one, but that may have been the WORSE plane I have ever been on. We did have in flight entertainment though. In 2011, the flight attendant put in a VHS tape of the original Wall Street.
