Kam was a holdout last year but I'm pretty sure he caved. Tyrod is working on his contract that he signed taking him to Buffalo before he was named a starter.
I'm not sure if Kam inked a new deal but I'm sure Tyrod is not making QB1 money.

Kam never inked a deal and Tyrod has a cap hit of about $3 million. So they're still both underpaid. The Bills are loving Tyrod's deal right now. He's still a deal if you quadruple his salary.

Tyrod needs to show more than one year of good play to get QB1 type money. He has shown that he can get injured though, which is why the Bills want to make sure that they don't throw money at someone to sit on the bench. He has this year to go out and prove that he is worth >$20. I believe in him, but he doesn't deserve it yet.

I'm not getting what you are implying. RG3 would have been a terrible recipient of QB1 money after his stellar rookie year. And Manziel was never in a position to even receive a decent sized contract since he never actually produced on the field.

This would make sense if Brock Osweiler didn't just get a huge contract for playing half as well as Tyrod for half a season. Fact of the matter is he is providing starting quality QB play, a winning record as a starter, for 3m a year and it's unacceptable. Most backups make more than that.

Yeah I don't love this either. But Tyrod was a backup for multiple years so he got signed for backup money and has a chance to prove that last year wasn't a flash in the pan. As long as Tyrod doesn't get hurt and he plays moderately well he'll get paid after this season. I'll love to see it.

One big difference is Brock was signed specifically to be the starter in Houston. Everyone knew it so he got NFL starting QB money. Tyrod was a career backup who was expected to be a backup in Buffalo until everyone got hurt in his initial training camp and he took his opportunity and ran with it. He agreed to the contract he has, the Bills are in no rush to give him more money when they don't have to. The NFL isn't about being fair.

Everything I had read indicated he came into Buffalo knowing it would be an open qb competition, which is why he came there. He didn't go in there expecting to be a backup. Also I had read something last week where they were trying to work out a bridge contract of some sort. Had seen numbers indicating 2 years and around 20 million or something of that nature.

1. He was not expecting to be the back up until everyone got hurt, he straight up won the job in an open competition. Also you make it sound like he is a 10 year vet who has always been a backup, he got drafted by a team who had a QB that would win the super bowl shortly after Tyrod's arrival.

You're missing the point about the unfairness entirely "he agreed to the contract" beggars can't be choosers and the overwhelming majority of NFL players are beggars, because the players have little power. Just because "the NFL isn't about being fair" doesn't mean that is okay when other sports are providing more guaranteed money in a much less dangerous environment. The NFLPA also can only do so much because the players don't get paid when they holdout while the billionaire owners and the brass of the NFL can sit back and wait much longer, which is why they had to agree to another shitty CBA.

i overall agree with what you're saying, but your second point is arguing something else entirely. yes the cba is shitty, but that doesn't change whether or not tyrod's deal is fair/acceptable. the (shitty) cba and the market set the framework within which tyrod's deal was made.

Secondly, he is the lowest paid starting QB in the NFL so it's not like he is just a victim of the market and is sitting arm to arm with other QB's getting screwed over, he's sitting at the back of the bus getting paid less than their back ups.

The year Tyrod showed up Kevin Kolb was slated to be the stop-gap starting QB until he slipped on a rubber mat, gave himself a concussion, and ended his career. Yes that really happened. That completely opened up the QB competition which Tyrod has run away with. My point was simply that, at that point, Tyrod had proven nothing in meaningful snaps so he had no leverage. He agreed to a contract that reflected his market value and Buffalo wasn't obligated to pay him more money just because he exceed expectations. That is that nautre of contract negotiation. Fortunately for Tyrod, the Bills brass stepped up and gave him a shiny new contract that guarantees him more money with a much higher ceiling but also gives Buffalo an eject button in case he doesn't do well this year.
My comment had nothing to do with the CBA. You can argue that NFL players should be paid more all you want but that wasn't what I was driving at. I was simply saying that outperforming your contract "value" doesn't mean you automatically get a new one.

it's all about the market at the time of signing the contract... IIRC tyrod had a chance to go to denver and be the back up for the year but passed on that opportunity to sign his deal in buffalo for a chance to start. Funny enough, brock osweiler was denver's backup last year and is now getting paid big money. If tyrod were a free agent this past summer, i think he'd have gotten a big pay increase
The NFL is a business, and tyrod took a chance, and hopefully him and his agent can make it pay off

Microfractures are a bitch. There's still absolutely no guarantee he'll ever fully regain his playing ability, and judging from other athletes who have had this its only a matter of time before the issues creep up again.
He may have 1st round talent, but he might not ever be able to truly use it in the NFL due to injuries. The Redskins took a gamble on him, for their sake lets hope it pays off (though, when has anything the Skins ever done actually pay off)...

I'll agree with you on the current owner of the Skins, but as an organization, they have been very successful on "chances" they took..... Larry Brown was an 8th round pick that Lombardi turned into an all pro, Joe Theisman (can't believe I am holding him up as an example) came to Allen's Skins via the CFL and won a Super Bowl for Gibbs, Doug Williams was a washout at Tampa that Gibbs might have won multiple Super Bowls with were it not for his off field injury.... But lately you are right, their bets pretty much suck. Hopefully, Kendall starts them on the right track again.

I was having a hard time finding Kendall (too many jersey numbers that look close to "38" when they're moving and bunched up). Plus, I was at work, and having to multitask.
But I do think I saw one play somewhere in the middle of the game, I think third quarter, while the announcers were discussing him.
