David Wilson's Olympic Hopes

For those interested in DW4's Olympics hopes, they were dashed this past week in Eugene. Confirmed on both David's Twitter account and the below link that DWilson did not earn a spot on the US Track & Field team heading to Rio. The top three jumpers earn a roster spot, with the winning jump coming in at 59'. The US Olympic squad returns both the Gold and Silver medal winners from the last Olympics. DW4 can jump a country mile, and flip right out of his shoes--but to hit 59' is something just short of a miracle. During his training leading up to the trials, he was hitting the low to mid 50's. Here's to hoping that whatever he tackles next--he'll find success, and have fun doing it.

A fine young man who did it right. I'm sure he will land on his feet (after the flip) and be a success.

Sounds like a prime candidate for some hokie club/alumni player relations position.

As soon as I saw the FSU/Lambo thingy, I thought exactly of this.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Here's an exclusive pic of one of the drillfield rabbits when they heard DW4 was coming back to Blacksburg.

"I believe we can go 1-2-3 in Rio,'' Claye said.

We all know what an incredible athlete DW4 is, but really he was trying to beat out not just the U.S., but the best in the world. The guys that make the Olympic team have been specializing in the sport for a decade or more. I can't imagine him trying for the 2020 Olympics. I wish him success in whatever next venture he pursues.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

David Wilson, no matter what, is a man among boys as both a person and an athlete. He's going to continue to amaze us down the line. The winning trials jump was 57'11" according to the article. That averages out to just over 19 feet per each leg of the hop, skip, jump. How many of you here ever simply long jumped 19 feet? I remember football coaches seeming to act like there was no sport outside of their game, these are some heckacious athletes Wilson was up against.

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

I think my personal record was something like 17-18' for the simple long jump, I can't imagine going 19' landing taking a coupe steps and repeating.

From the outside looking in, he'd be a great candidate for the job previously by Kevin Jones.

With his personality and resume, seems like he could do a lot of cool things.

I certainly have higher hopes for Wilson than a certain former UVa football player.

I hope he chooses to bring his talents to Blacksburg, again, but I wish him well in whatever he decides to undertake.

Wow, that's heinous. From the article:

Our complaint alleges that Robertson and Vaughn preyed on elderly victims and others who placed their trust in these individuals, only to have their savings. stolen

I don't think he qualified for the trials...

David "Cassel Climber" Wilson and Sam "Don't Deny His Touchdowns" Rogers are still my favorite Hokies of character from the 2004-Present era.
