He released a chapter from his upcoming book "The 50 Best* College Football Teams of All Time (*The most interesting, innovative, and important, anyway)." The first one he released is the 1999 Virginia Tech excerpt.

I like it. About the game with Syracuse...

The Hokies had malice in their hearts. They dominated in every way Beamer teams dominated.

damnit...that was a fun year.

That Syracuse game was awesome. I don't think they crossed mid-field until the second half and it seemed like a Syracuse player was being helped off the field every 5 mins.

That was a good article. Curry went to Hampton and Vick went to Warwick, Vick started at Ferguson but that was closed by '98.

Definitely a special team. If not for a few big plays, that title game could've been different.
Didn't realize Syracuse was that highly rated at the time.

Great read. Don't need the rest of the book. Good video to follow.

MV7 has to be one of my all time favorite Hokies. Partly because we were the same year so I was there when it was happening and partly because he literally changed the game.

No one was on running QBs as much until Mike. He changed that position. Love MV7.

Corey Moore was an undersized fullback and linebacker in high school who, after a detour in junior college, became one of the celebrated defensive ends of all-time, racking up 35 sacks in three seasons in Blacksburg. Thousand-yard receiver Andre Davis, who appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in December behind a "They Belong!" header, was a track star and soccer player in New York until late in his high school career. Stith barely played during his senior year in high school. Ike Charlton was a high school quarterback in Orlando who was passed on by Florida State and ended up a second-round draft pick at cornerback.

Damn, we used to to be the Oakland A's of college football.

Good article by Connolly on the 99 Hokies. I don't agree with his statement that Va Tech was "definitely" the second best team at the 99-00 championship game against Florida State. We definitely lost. Though I have never seen mentioned, with ten minutes left in the game we had lost five starters. Safety, two cornerbacks, starting running back, and our primary possession receiver were out, and not solely due to injuries received during that game. Some had nagging ankle injuries in starting the game, and one broke his foot in practice the week of the game. Not many #1 teams can loose five starters and defeat the #2 team.
