With that in mind, the first matchup of the year will take place Down Under in the 2016 College Football Sydney Cup. It will be the first college football game played in Australia since 1987, when Brigham Young defeated Colorado State 30-26 in Melbourne.
That's right, we'll be kicking off from Australia and ANZ Stadium in Sydney, where a hopefully raucous crowd will be set to take in a bout between the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the California Golden Bears
Anyone else ready for football in less than 36 hours?

I'm ready for ALL CAPS @thekeyplay in 36 hours.
It's highly unlikely this game beats last season's NDSU vs. Montana opener, but I'll watch anyway.
Whenever I think of Australia I think of massive spiders

Who mounts a curtain rod into the door frame like that? Savages!
Technically, they play on Saturday in Australia. We just see it on Friday.
What's fascinating is that the game is a nooner for those watching in person. Cal fans at home get a prime time game, while the Hawaii fans at home will be catching it d during rush hour and dinner. For most of us, it's a 10 pm night cap on Friday.
Just enough time to drink myself into caring about this game. GO RAINBOW WARRIORS!
Leg for #1.0

They are playing the College Football Championship as the first game of the season. It's official, rest of the season cancelled!
They've found the solution to East Coast Bias.
(Stage your own championship, before the season, even further west. But still after we've gone to bed.)
Soon, this site will hit zero on the countdown!

I just checked it a few minutes before 10 pm, and it says 3 hours. Does the season not start until the game is over?
Season has to start on a Saturday, silly. As far as why it's not two hours... pick your reason.
I'm hoping Hawaii breaks out the old school rainbow uniforms.
You mean we're actually going to have some non-Preseason, non-Canadian, non-Arena football tonight? I can't wait.
Pretty neat having a game over there. Should be interesting.
First ESPNism of the year
The commentaries on selfies potentially losing the game was riveting.
"We can make the case that if Alabama loses to two SEC teams and they both run the table, [Alabama] gets in to the playoffs with two losses."
439 yards
Wrong thread. I see you have been tailgating the Hawaii Cal game though. Respect.
GUYS ITS HAPPENING
We made it! The off season... it's.. it's..
Boogity Boogity Boogity lets go footballin
Australia must think we suck at kicking.
I feel like this sucks for Australians. They are used to rugby hits and no pads.
But they've never seen a forward pass. Imagine the progress they'll make.
With Cal so far the tempo is good so they are used to quick play too, but they probably laugh at all the penalties.
Just wait until next week when Ireland gets to see Boston College and Georgia Tech! Not much passing gonna happen in that game.......
Did the ref just call that late hit out of bounds? Inbetween the hash marks?
Yes, while stating the wrong number and no it's not Ron Cherry screwing up.
PAC-12 crew. We know how good they are at officiating.
Slightly better than an ACC crew?
Ron Cherry knows what a catch is.
No wonder they called "Leaping". Those refs really are the worst.
guys Guys GUYS!!! REAL HONEST TO GOD FOOTBALL!!!
Anyone catch the nod to rugby on that TD?
So what happened to all the passing?
You can't pass in Australia.
I have counted 4 times in the first half where the refs called the foul on the wrong player. I hope we never play another game with Pac refs.
520 yds passing at the end of the third. Cal getting conservative. Looks like mid 600's is where to be. Not out of the running for the tix yet, but not looking good.
