I follow all of the VT accounts listed here except TechSideline and and the VT football account. I'm at peace with my follows.
You're not missing anything with @VT_Football. I can't bring myself to unfollow them because I'm afraid I'll miss something important but their tweets make me cringe. It's easily the corniest account I follow, and it overuses emojis to such an extent that it makes you wonder if they know they can just use words
I did it last week. I figured if it's important Joe will tweet it. I get that we need to be young and trendy but Pete is just too old to do it correctly.
Sometimes I think it's my mom running the account
Every single time I see a tweet from the official account:
Which "official" account? They recently got HokiesFB verified as well so we now have TWO "official" accounts to follow. The dumbest. HokiesFB used to just be for "recruiting" but that ain't the truth.
I unfollowed both during the offseason. I'll probably get back to it this weekend.
In my opinion the @HokiesFB account is tolerable. But whoever is tweeting from the @VT_Football account needs to be fired 12 months ago. They're embarrassing our football program and our school.
It's going to cost us a recruit. If Michigan lost a commit because they got his name wrong/sent a thank you for an event he didn't attend, I shudder to think of what kind of damage the VT_Football account could do.
I actually enjoy @HokiesFB content - it is run solely by the football staff (unlike VT_Football, which is run by the Athletic Department and also controls the other sports accounts).
Could not agree more. I believe Pete Moris runs the VT Football account and that needs to end ASAP. More than half of the tweets are completely irrelevant to anything VT related. A couple weeks ago it tweeted about #internationalCatDay and tagged LSU football with a video of us playing Clemson. Not only is it a completely idiotic tweet, but it tagged the wrong program. Get that shit out of here. Just pass it off to Guerry who I think runs HokiesFB
I also laugh/cringe every time the @VT_Football account posts this photo.
good thing they just posted it
One of these days they're going to use an Emme gif wrong and its going to be so sad
At the beginning of Pokemon Go's increase in popularity, Ohio State Football tweeted telling fans that Ohio Stadium is not a Pokestop. @VT_Football responded talking shit about us winning in The Shoe in 2014. First of all, that's not relevant to their tweet at all. Second of all, they have won a national championship and beaten us in Lane since that game. It's embarrassing on so many levels to have tweets like that coming from our official Twitter account.
Exactly. Was Pete Moris even working for VT when we won that game? Does he just tweet the first thing that comes to his mind? Why does someone with only a year of Hokie knowledge have so much autonomy over our social footprint. It is embarrassing and needs to change now.
This. This shit right here. Elite football programs don't milk wins from previous seasons. We treat that game like it was our national championship and the bottom line is that win was a flash in the pan.
You don't shit talk to shit talk.
You want to see an example of excellent Twitter use by a sports team? Look at a the Carolina Panthers. Whoever runs that account just gets it, and while they may talk shit every once in a while, they do it to other teams where the rapport is already established and its a give and take process (like.... the rest of the NFC South).
Does this finally answer the question of who's legit the official twitter account @VT_Football or @HokiesFB?
Or am I the only one who finds it odd we have two "official" blue-check-verified twitter accounts for the football team?
@VT_Football is the official account
@HokiesFB is the recruiting account
HokiesFB is not only a better handle name, but it is also functions more in the way that a comparable account like ClemsonFB does.
Joe for the rest of the day...
SmartFootball is a must follow. WarRoomEagle (Auburn football) is an outstanding follow and it is the worst omission besides myself from this list.
for your non VT shit posting needs, and legit stuff that you might miss otherwise, @RedditCFB is actually worth it.
Chris Fallica is the off-stage guy on Gameday. I stayed on him during the #Gameday4Frank campaign. Stewart Mandel is a good follow too. Writes for Fox sports now.
Athlon must think that the Cal-Hawaii game last Friday was a scrimmage...
it might as well have been...for Cal at least.
Nah it was a preseason game
@Big12Refs is another parody account that's worthy of a follow. Not sure how they were left off the list.
