TKP user NickVT10 started this thread last year.
Predict what you think our offense will run for the first play of the season (assuming we start at our own 25).
My prediction: play-action to Cam for 11 yards to the left.
My dream: T-Mac rips off a 50+ yarder like this

IZR to the right for 3 yards
Play action to Bucky for 14 yds
Assuming after being up 14-0 from a kick return and defensive TD, I think J-Rod will hit Bucky Rogers over the middle for a 13 yard gain.
Sam Ro
dgers will barrel his way through defenders turning what looks like a 2-3 yd run into a solid 12+ yds. CJF definitely knows that #45 is a sure way to set the tone he wants.I'll bet you $100 no one named Sam Rodgers touches the ball all game (for the hokies, I don't know the liberty roster)
Oh man, I tricked myself into adding the "d". I know everyone is always talking about it, and I convinced myself that everyone always leaves out the "d". Tyree has the "d". Man, I need to step up before gameday.
false start, on the offense. 5 yard penalty, repeat first down.
ducks
Geez, give the new regime a chance. I still got a chuckle though. Have a leg.
Watching the Memphis game vs Ole miss I noticed 3 false start penalties. I can't stand undisciplined penalities and wanted to see what we might expect from a Fuente team. Mainly to set expectations for how many remotes I'd be breaking this year. Last year Memphis was 115th in country in penalties per game @ 7.5 and we were 101st at 7.1 penalties per game. :-/ SMH.
Couldn't drill down to false starts. Setting expectation bar low and buying a few extra remotes in prep.
Ps. Miami was dead last. 9.8 penalties per game. LOLU-Va was 118th.

Zone read play action, deep shot to Ford, 75 yard touchdown.
Quick slant Bucky 7 yards
I'm fighting old habits in wanting to predict "handoff to Sam Rogers up the middle for a gain of 2 yards." Must resist....
The Ol' Stiney Special
Lawson hands off to Drew Harris. Touchdown!
Well played, sir!
6 yard gain by Rogers to the left.
A jet sweep.
A seventy yard touchdown bomb from Tim Settle to Devin Wilson. Liberty won't see it coming.
My favorite comment on last years thread:
"Teller slams Bosa on the sideline while he is in a sweatsuit" - VTBlackout
Rogers 5 yard run to the right on a zone read.
I'm predicting 0 plays on offense because our defense and special teams will do all the scoring.
Read option for 5 yards
Fake 23 blast with a backside george reverse.
Like your life depended upon it.
Fake jet sweep inside zone read.
Just kidding. We actually do a flea flicker. No one expects it. We get our first touchdown from it, the only one that we need, yet we decide to throw up 69 on Liberty to the 3 they get in garbage time.
We were having this exact conversation tailgating before the Boise game. One of my buddies called for the flea flicker. That was met with chuckles and a 'yeah right.' Damned if we didn't open that game with a flea flicker.
That was actual the first Tech game I saw in person. I expect both the first offensive play and the Liberty game in general to have a better outcome.
WR Screen
Bryan Stinespring? Is that you??
Followed by a jet sweep :-)
The play called will be a triple option. Whether it ends up being a WR screen, an inside run or Evans keeps will depend on how soft their corners line up, and how hard the end bites.
Read option WR reverse run/pass option with Bucky throwing to Evans for a TD
Spider 2 Y Banana
The really great thing about this year is I have no idea. And I don't think the other team does either.
Kickoff return for a touchdown, DUH
Because the title of the thread is Predict our first play from scrimmage. Derp
I know the title of the thread. I'm just disregarding it in hopes of the perfect beginning to the perfect season
I know, and I wasn't trying to be a douche with my response. I was just jerkin ya a little.
Jet sweep from the shotgun for 1/2 a yd.
Run up the middle in honor of the late Coach Dooley.
Wild Turkey, Bucky runs it off the right tackle for 4 yards
Speaking of wild turkey, how much did Fuente&co toy with this formation at Memphis? Does anyone know?
Feelin a quick bubble screen out to Ford for 7-12yds
Shotgun 3 wide outs split out to the right tight end left side.
Fake the zone-read hand off.
Ford runs a go route
Bucky runs a deep seam route to the middle of the field
Phillips runs a deep in
Cunningham crosses in front of Phillips
Evans finds Cunningham with space and Bucky and Ford out in front blocking
Zone read option - Evans keeps for a gain of 4 yards off the left side.
That, or Teller surprises everyone and starts at left guard and we run the fumblerooski with him for a 74 yard gain, only to have him fumble the ball at the 1-yard line because he started to celebrate early and drops the ball where he proceeds to kick it out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. He then really does get benched.
99 yard TD run for Sam (we are the the 1 after an awesome 4th down stop by the D of course)
this is ludicrous
LU will never cross the 50
Fake double reverse pass, Evans hands off to McMillian on a jet sweep action from the right, who hands the ball to Ford coming from the left side WR position. Rogers crosses behind Isaiah like he's getting the ball from him and then blocks a defender that is closing on Ford who then hits Bucky down the right sideline.
A moment of silence for the Liberty QB, post-Settled.
Easy.... Triple Leonard.
It's what I would do.
Taking a knee from the victory formation. by the time the O gets the ball, the game will already be over.
I figure Evans will run it one way or another to get hit and get the juices flowing.
Something, something...don't you put that evil on me gif.
You'll be happy enough when you realize he just ran for 12 yards and a first down, then popped up like a wedding dick ready for more. He's going to be a really good runner, I think.
There's a phrase I'll use for the rest of my life.
Evans steps right, then pulls up and throws to the opposite field while Sam Rogers does a wheel route to the left, catching the ball in stride, juking the 1st defender, trucking the 2nd attempted tackle, gets down to about the 5 yard line before a DB catches up to him and trips him up before the TD(hey, I'm a realist)
New guess: Statue of Liberty play because....'Murica?
First play: Motley up the middle for 1 yard
Most called play of the game: Motley up the middle for 1 yard
Weather: Heavy rain
Final score: Pitt 17, VT 13
Sigh.
Wow OP nailed it! Play action to Phillips!
Holy shit I called it.
Lookin at you for that insider information.
You think Lawson gonna transfer?
