I know
boomersNooners (effing autocorrect) suck for tailgating but as a father of young kids who will only be able to watch the game from home each week, I actually prefer nooners. The kids are occupied with lunch for most of the first quarter and just happy to have something on tv afterEh, they're not so bad. Not as good as Gen-X, but better than millennials.
I dunno, I think boomers are the best. Never had a bad time tailgating with older Hokies. They've spilt more bourbon at tailgates than I'll ever drink. Love bourbon drinks with them, passing the bottle around, and hearing old VT stories. Gen X Hokies usually show up with some pbr, talk about how 1999 was awesome but Blacksburg sucks now, then their wife comes and gets pissed that they're so drunk before kickoff. Millennials just drink until they're blacked out, either make it to the game or don't, and then leave early anyway to go drink some more.

I have my '74 alum dad to tell me about slip n' slides down the hallways of Lee, bands playing at The Zoo, carrying whole bottles of bourbon into Lane to watch Don Strock play, and red light panty raids.
I have nothing but contempt for millennials and hipsters who drink pbr, I was gone before '99, and the 'burg is still cool, but this:

There is also nap time for the kids. Yea for ease of watching on TV noon is best.
I gotta 3.5 hr drive to the game and nooners do have some benefits.
You can hang out more after the game ends. Also you don't have to head
out before the 4th Q is over.
Driving from Bristol always makes noon games a pain, but I wouldn't miss a single one for the world.

well this makes me sad.
only thing I don't like about this game being a nooner is that its homecoming. that means parade. tailgate. bookstore. driving to the game. all have to be done in a max of 5 hours. that's just not enough time.
Speaking as an HT alum, the noon games are actually better for Homecoming. Get the parade/Hokie Walk/game out of the way, and then have the banquet.
With 3:30 games, if you try the banquet between the parade and game, there's the hassle of the band not being able to stay because they have to do the Hokie Walk.
The rare time that we had a primetime game for Homecoming.....man, there was a lot of sitting around and waiting.
And considering that Homecoming events are not always spouse-friendly, it's nice to have most of the events compacted together.

Leaves more time to revel in our victory.
*EDIT* I'm not saying I'm taking ECU lightly. They're a dangerous team and they've had our number the past couple of years. They have a very real chance to beat us yet again on Saturday. That said, I have all the faith in the world in Fuente getting his guys fired up to play well against a team that's beaten them twice in a row.
I'm sure it will be talked about in full-depth this week once people finish de-briefing from the BC-Beatdown but ECU scares me more right now than any other team on our schedule (including pitt/miami/ND). After having watched several clips of them, they are the real deal on offense. They have so many weapons at WR and a QB that can scramble, not to mention another DT quarterback in summers that destroyed us last year which is a recipe for success against our defense already this year. I know our Defense is riding high in the rankings right now but this weekend has all the makings of a trap game and ECU is looking tough. They were the better team against USCe but a barrage of ill-timed turnovers kept the game out of reach (sounds familiar). I'm looking forward to the analysis.
I think this weekend will turn into a shoot out with us having the edge with the better defense but ECU has made a point at circling their annual matchup against us. I just hope we're not still riding the win over BC.
I'm quite positive ECU is not the only team with this game circled. Tech's players are tired of losing to ECU, just as we are. I'm sure Fuente and Foster are gonna have them ready to go.
Looking forward to the game but as others have said
ECU can be a tough opponent. Especially with their new coach
and offense. Interesting to see how the game goes.
