OT: Rainy Day Roll Call

With the weather today and the forecast for the rest of the week, work is slow. Therefore I am bored. I usually get annoyed when people at work tell me they are bored, I mean I will find you something to do. But these people aren't smart enough to fill their spare time with TKP.

Anyway, we have a bye week so the forum is a bit slow too, and I have been thinking recently that I only know most of you by screen name. This is all fun and games, but maybe putting a name to the...errr screen name would help old fools like me if we ever do cross paths. I have met many of you before at the charity tailgates, and of course I know the regulars that always hang out in Lot 18 and drink all of our beer(kidding of course, we still have an unlimited supply of Yuengling left behind from last year), but that doesn't mean I couldn't use a refresher.

Ok I'll divulge first.

I'm Nick. I live in Richmond and work for Bobcat. My interests include the Hokies, autosports, the water, boats, beer, and smoking large quantities of meat. My disinterests include LOLUVA, heavy traffic, heartburn, Joey Logano, and Jimmy Fallon.

A couple years ago, we started a map of where TKP members are located. Funny, I'm in my 3rd location on the map in 2 years. (Note to self: (tim) settle down meow).

There seems to be quite a high concentration of us in the US.

I don't want to have several pins on the page; how do I update my location?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

I am French. I live in Falls Church. I like fishing, pie, and I think Top Gun is a crappy movie.

I am originally from Abingdon. Curt Newsome is the head coach where I played football in college, and that makes me said. I miss Weaver's Store slaw dogs and Pals more than you know. I am also a strong advocate for Jersey Mikes to move into the New River Valley.

Name's Tom. I live in tiny Mathews, Va on the Chesapeake Bay. No surprise, I am a fisherman and a long time Hokie (since '67, the year before I started at VT). I am retired, last couple of jobs were mountain surveying and then fishing guide on the New River, but I have held a variety of jobs in my life. Hate loluva with a passion, love chocolate cream pie over all others, and can eat fried shrimp for every meal. Unlimited supply of almost any beer sounds like almost heaven to me, and I hope to eventually make my way back up to the 'tains for a game, have been invited to the Miami game and will hopefully get there. If so, I'll look you guys up in Lot 18 and see what we can do about that beer surfeit.

The Miami game is going to be tough for me. I am leaving Richmond at 2pm and will get there as fast as I can. Most of our group is out of town that Thursday but a few will be there, and then of course me, much, much later than I would like.

I am Adam and I am one of the million software developers who works for government contractors in Northern Virginia. My most recent hobby that I have picked up is smoking meat in my Weber Smokey Mountain smoker. In fact, I am having something my college buddies and I call Smokerday for the UNC game. I am going to smoke a brisket, pork butt, ribs, whole chicken, turkey legs (like at Lane Stadium), baked beans and mac and cheese. Oh and this is all for only 7 people. We did it last year and it is just a day of gluttony, drinking and Hokies football.

Take it from me, this guy's meat is really.........swell.

I'll see myself out now.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

That's what she said.

Wait, hold the door for me...

I'm Mike. I'm a VT alum and now live in the far, far southwest corner of VA. I'm usually the guy that crashes the lot 18 party wearing the orange and maroon Cat in the Hat hat and a VT jersey that says "Hagy" on the back (it's my last name, and it was a groomsman gift for a wedding I was in). I'm also the guy that always brings more Yuengling even though they have ~3837695 million cans left. Oddly enough, I'm more of a college hoops guy than a college football guy so Buzzketball has my full attention. Also, I'm a bit of a music junkie and my day job is IT for a government contractor.

Controversial opinion: I dislike the WVU and UT fanbases more than the LOLUVA fanbase. If I have to hear Rocky Top one more time my head will explode. No lie.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Rocky Top, you'll always be, home sweet home to me, Good ole Rocky Top, Rocky Top, Tennessee.

I can't get that song out of my head since Battle at Bristol. My head's not exploding, but I can't get that song out. I know how my dog feels when she pulls both paws over her head to get at some itch she can't find.

Used to be in bands. Absolutely hated having to perform Rocky Top. Once got booed off the stage when playing in front of a bunch of WVA fans because I wouldn't do Country Roads, then later that same evening, booed off the stage because I wouldn't sing Rocky Top. Band leader was pissed, but a man's gotta have some standards.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

The song itself doesn't bother me that much. It's that fuggin 'WOO' between rocky top and rocky top that makes me lose it

Ugh. I feel ya. A few days after the Bristol game I woke up with that damn song stuck in my head and it made me a surly bastard at work for a good few hours until it went away.

That Sheetz was where I filled up before heading back home when I worked in Eden (I had to drive across the mountain that is Route 58 between Stuart and Hillsville. That's fun in the winter....) There were always tons of people at that Sheetz day or night for some reason. Now I know why. Apparently it's the thing to do in that part of town. Also, I'll make a point to swing by Ridgeway Drive In next time I find my self that way.

I'm Andrew and I live in Arlington, VA now and I grew up in Richmond. I'm really into home brewing and craft beer. Recently I have gotten more and more into sour beer making and have started doing that. For any homebrewers, my next steps in the brewing will likely be growing and storing yeast and mixed fermentation cultures.
I also follow a number of sports. Mostly football, soccer, tennis, and some basketball anymore.
For my Hokie background, my parents are both Tech grads and started taking me when I was really young. The first game I remember was MV7's first game and I've been hooked ever since. I'm an ME grad of 2015.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Hey, I live in Arlington and love beer too! Haven't brewed anything in a while, but planning on buying some stuff and starting up again soon. Last batch was a Nut Brown Ale last winter. Still have a few bottles of it in the back of the fridge.

Speaking of - If you haven't been to the Westover Market, then you need to go. It's my favorite place in the world 2nd only to the Vintage Cellar.

edit - sours/ are my wife's favorite thing. I can't stomach most of them (i think the sugar or yeast or something in them makes me sick), but she drinks them all the time. I haven't found anything else I don't like though!

Yall are speaking my language with home brewing. If you haven't started kegging yet you need to. My little bro just moved to Arlington so I plan to be up there a bit more often (although I absolutely hate NOVA)

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I haven't kegged but I know some guys who have. I just don't really have the space for anything like that. I've just been bottling really. Tried a growler brew about a year and a half ago and it turned out like ass, so i'm sticking with bottles for now. haha

side note: if anyone in Arlington knows of anyone selling some supplies let me know (or has any!). I'm currently running the poor man's soup pot and 5gal fermentation bucket method. lol

Absolutely go to The Brew Shop in Courthouse. They are the only brew shop in Arlington and they also sell beer and growler fills!
I have never been to Westover Market, but now that I've looked at it I have to go sometime!
Speaking of kegging, I have a chest freezer with a temp controller that I need to convert into a kegerator. For now I just have kegs and my CO2 tank sitting in it.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Check out K-1 too, in Arlington (Westmont area). It looks sketch on the outside, but the promised land, I swear, is within.

Is K-1 the one on Columbia Pike across from CVS? I went there once looking for a special release Heavy Seas. Didn't have it but they did have a good selection. Haven't been back yet though.

Another good place is the Evening Star Cafe in Del Ray area of Alexandria on Mt. Vernon Ave. it's small, but the stuff they have is good. Found two random bottles of 120 minute there a few months ago.

Yep that would be it. They usually carry some hard to find beers, and some of my personal favorites from Maine Beer Co.

A chest freezer or something like it is to be one of my next steps so I can do some climate controlled cold brewing. I really want to start lagering. That is my next step.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

It really helps so much. And the nice things is that if you have nothing else in the fridge, you can even let it control to higher temperatures. I had it control at 72F for a Hefeweizen I made since I'm very particular about temperature for weizens.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Awesome, I'll have to check it out! There's a good shop up by my parents place in Frederick, but that's a little far to go unless I plan of being up that way. Where in Courthouse is it?

Let me know if you need help with the kegerator. I helped a friend in put one together a few years ago. His was a little different though.. It was a full size fridge that he put two taps on for two pony kegs, and then swapped out the condenser for the freezer so he could use it for general beer storage without exploding bottles.

And definitely check out Westover. It's legit. A little pricey but they have most things you can think of, and unless it's a one-off special release they can usually order it if you talk to the manager.

The Brew Shop is about 2 blocks from the metro stop towards Rosslyn on Wilson Blvd. It's one of the shops at the base of an apartment complex that is between Wilson Blvd and Clarendon Blvd.

Thanks for the offer on the kegerator! I've done a ton of research and my father has made one, too. But, I will inevitably run into some problems.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Gotcha! Well my wife is currently working in Rosalyn so I might have to stop by after I pick her up one day!

That place must be new... My Local Homebrew Store (My LHBS) in Falls Church has been the only game in NoVA for quite a while. They recently added beer sales to their selection of home brewing supplies.

The Brew Shop opened up in late January. I'm pretty sure My LHBS started doing the beer sales because they were feeling the effects of The Brew Shop since it happened since The Brew Shop opened.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Dominion Wine and Beer is also doing crowler fills now in Falls Church. For anyone who has trouble making it out to Ocelot in Loudoun, they usually carry some Ocelot brews on tap where you can get the crowler filled.

Ocelot btw - fantastic.

Girlfriend wants to try to brew some sours so I'll have to ask you for some tips in the future!

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

Egbert is obviously the go-to guy for brewing questions, but I have learned a lot over the past year or two. The key is patience since sours take a lot of time (unless you do quick kettle souring which doesn't give the same depth of flavor).

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Damnit shore I didn't know you lived up in Arlington now. We need to get a drink sometime, and talk about them mathsci days.

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

Hey Nemo! Yep, got a job in DC after finishing school! Been here for a little while. Sounds good to me! Also, congrats to you and your lady (tell her hi for me).

Hi I'm Robb. I have a Hokie Addiction.

So I'm born and raised in Richmond (real city of not surrounding counties) started really following Hokie Football because a girl I liked in 4th grade did, then my cousin went to school there in mid 90's and I was hooked. I recently became a Hokie club member and this year was first year with season tickets. In fact until Liberty game I had seen more Hokies game outside Lane than inside. I'm going back to college and have 3 daughters (4th here tomorrow) so I don't have a lot of time for hobbies or life outside.

One of my favorite moments in football history was when Heath Miller retired leaving 0 Wahoos in the NFL with experience beating VT.

While I hate to burst the bubble, it will allow for the celebrating later...but Matt Schaub is still in the NFL, back to where he started, as a backup in Atlanta.

Ok so Fuck Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub

I'm Todd. I grew up in Bluefield (the VA side) and played for the mighty G-Men of Graham back in the old days. I've lived in Atlanta suburbs for the past 20 years (since graduation) and work as an IT consultant. My day typically consists of waking up, getting a cup of coffee and working out of my home office 95% of the time...no commute in Atlanta is a fantastic way way to live. I have three kids ranging from 20 to 8 and that's where all my free time goes toward. My daughter (born at Montgomery Regional) always wanted to go to VT like her old man did, but since she earned a full academic ride to any public university in Georgia, she started her Junior year at UGA a few months ago. My 15 year old just started high school and although he's more into baseball and basketball, he goes to school with one of the QB's that VT is recruiting. And our 8 year old is just awesome. My wife and I try to get back home to see VT play as much as we can, but that's only about once every couple of years (last season's Ohio State game being the last one we went to). My favorite VT football moment has always been Druck to Holmes in the '95 UVA game. Considering where we were as a program and what that season meant, it's hard to top that in my mind.

Agree with you about '95 being special. I was at that UVA game (see my profile) and still think that whole year was the best season of VT football I have experienced. The 0-2 start that turned into a top 10 ranking was magical. Being able to attend that year's Sugar Bowl and whuppin' a Texas team who didn't know us from dick...priceless.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Alright, ya'll have talked me into watching the VT games from '95 on Hokietapes. I've never watched any from that year, so this will be fun.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Go ahead and watch the first two games for some perspective on that season. The Cincy game was particularly nasty. Cold, wet, miserable game. I immediately went out and bought $300 worth of rain gear so I wouldn't be that uncomfortable again. As the season unfolded, however, the feeling was that we were arriving, and after that Sugar Bowl, even Texas had to agree that VT was legitimately a top tier team. It was a long time coming, and those of us who endured the previous decades of mediocrity were especially rewarded for sticking it out. Watch that UVA game twice, though. It was glorious in its outcome, but the way we dashed their hopes was really cool. While you may not see the famous "Joe Geick (SP?) leg out to trip our return man" on the interception that sealed the deal, I can assure you that there wasn't a hoo in the house that didn't immediately deflate like a three day old condom thrown in the weeds on the bank of the New River. Oh joy, oh rapture!

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Don't forget, that was also the year when we beat Miami for the first time in school history...and we did it right after that Cincy game and it seemed to spark the whole season. It's interesting how that was my most memorable season while I was in school and I was actually unable to attend the games. For most of the time while I was a student, I worked part-time for the Blacksburg Parks & Rec department. That mean doing things like dragging and lining the local baseball/softball fields to umpiring little league games to whatever. But it also meant that on the weekends, I spent my time managing the gym at Kipps Elementary when was open for public use. Friday night, all day Saturday and most of Sunday, you'd find me there handing out basketballs, taking care of injuries and all of the other duties that go along with that task. In the fall, I'd turn on a little 10" TV they had in the office and watch the game.

My grandparents lived on Tiller street.

I've been a lifelong Hokie – dad was Class of 76, and my first game was in 1990 vs. NC State. I love craft beer, Folk/Americana/Bluegrass music (especially live), red wine, Carolina bbq, hiking, camping, and fishing. I dislike mean people, Maryland (The state, drivers, and the school), and believe that Danny Coale caught that pass.

If you come to First Down for a game, look me up and we can discuss fishing. Finding people in Northern Virginia who like fishing can be challenging.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Absolutely! We just moved to the greater DC area about a year ago, and need to find other Hokies (not to mention, fellow TKP'ers) to catch games with. Hoping to make it over to First Down this month for a game or two!

With the little bro in Arlington, now, I will make it up there for an away game and go to First Down. He went for his first time during Boston College and said he enjoyed it and the food.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'm Justin, Currently a 5th Year Material Science & engineering student at Tech but call Williamsburg home. Had never been to a Virginia tech football game until my freshman year, just so happened to be the '12 GT game that went into OT. Grew up in a family of college basketball crazed Orangemen, still a strong 'Cuse basketball fan but Buzzketball has my heart. I officiate High School football in the NRV & surrounding area and Intramural sports here on campus. Learned about TKP by word of mouth and its now my source for daily entertainment on Fuenteball and Buzzketball. Interests include Football (G-Men) , Basketball (VT) , Baseball (Yanks & Nat's), Golf (Bubba), craft beer as well as most of you, currently taking a Brewing Science & Technology class here on campus!

Also, Nick, I may have meet you at Bristol. I was tailgating 3 RV's down and came over and hung out with Stephen for a bit, i worked with him for 2 years here in Intramural s.

"Exit light, Enter night, Enter the Hokies!"

Yep! I remember you. Stephen is very well rounded, more than I was at his age. Bristol was a good time, despite the game. We met a lot of good people there.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'm Joe. Florida transplant living in Forest. Been a Hokie fan since we moved here 26 years ago. VPI wasn't very good back then, but you, the fans, were great. The other school had a bunch of pecker heads. Decision easy. Love golf (play to a 4), still do consulting work, love Corvettes (01 Convertible), love Italian food, season ticket holders. I am Andrew, and I am recent grad from VT from the Industrial Design program (the same one Kevin Jones went to). I just moved to Richmond for my first job. Since I am new to the area i am in need of things to do/people to do things with!

I criticize knowing full well I could never do what these athletes do.

Take a date to Maymont. It's free, girls love animals and flowers.

I live in Richmond too! Always looking for a new drinking buddy or golf buddy (both works too!).

If you're into music, The Camel, The Broadberry, and The National are good spots to go. The beer scene in RVA has exploded the last few years. The Scott's Addition area seems to always have a new brewery opening up. Check out Isley and Ardent in that area. Three Notch'd is also opening up a facility there. I haven't really been in Richmond except to visit my parents recently, so I'm not completely up to date.
For food, I highly recommend Edo's Squid for Italian. They have great fried calamari and eggplant parm. Lemon is great for Indian food and it's on Broad St. I think Thai Diner Too in Carytown has the best Thai food. Burger Bach in Carytown has some pretty great New Zealand style burgers with a solid tap list. Tio Pablo has the best authentic tacos and Addis makes really good Ethiopian (both in Shockoe Bottom).
Edited for a typo (x2).

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

The Camel and Broadberry are excellent, and (part) owned by one of my best friends, who is married into a Hokie family.

If you're a RVA Hokie, you should patronize these places and support the local economy through drinking and listening to excellent music.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

Saw Blackberry Smoke at The National back on St. Patrick's day weekend...nice venue.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Whether you're into craft beer or not, The Veil is making some of the best/most sought after beers in the country. The Answer and Triple Crossing also great. Three Notch'd just opened their doors to the public yesterday, and I'm excited to go check it out myself tonight.

The Broadberry has some killer shows coming up this fall/winter that I'm really looking forward to: Tauk, Motet, Big Something, to name a few.

Hannibal Buress is coming to Altria next Friday 10/7

I wasn't born here, but I love this city

COTU is a bit underrated in my opinion as, but I may be biased because its is just 2 miles away from me. Their White Russian Stout they have out around Christmas time is some of the best stuff to hit my lips.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

The aptly named white russian stout, Duderino, is AMAZING. I love COTU, and I always get a 32oz Chin Music at Squirrels games. I'm south of the river though, so my trips to the actual brewery in Ashland aren't as frequent as those to Scotts addition.

It is conveniently (or inconveniently?) on my way home from work every day so I frequent it quite often. They also had one called the Belgium Quad that was brewed in red wine casks. I was blown away by that one, about as unique and tasty as anything I have ever had.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I've never been big on Quads, personally, but age any beer in a barrel (bourbon, whisky, wine, rum, tequila, wahoo tears) and I'll try it.

I work in Innsbrook near Midnight, but it's a little out of my way home, or I would have the same problem convenience

Hi...I'm John. But you can call me Keavinne. My screen name was my nickname growing up (last name is Whitt), and pretty much sums up my personality.

I've been a Hokie all my life. Grew up in Radford (played for the legend Coach Lineburg). My dad was a personnel director at VT for 27 years, so I was exposed early. I've moved around a bit since graduating, and was 1 of 14 in the Kansas City Hokie Club before moving "back" to the east coast and settling in NoVa (Falls Church/Bailey's Crossroad). I married a Villanova grad...so football season is pretty one sided in our household. Have my 6-year old son pretty well brainwashed. Let's hope it sticks. Work in downtown DC in commercial real estate.

I love cookies and giving out turkey legs/upvotes:

What company do you work for, if you don't mind me asking? I work for a Civil/Building/Construction Consulting Engineering firm in McLean and work with a lot of property managers, real estate companies, etc. small chance I may know you or someone at your company!

Right now I work TIER REIT. They are the former Barringer Harvard Group. I've been around the block a bit here in the DC area (CarrAmerica, RREEF, Trammell Crow, MRP Realty, etc.).

We put the K in Kwality

Oh nice! I done a lot of work with MRP around NoMa and Waterfront. I've had one project with Carr, and I've heard of Tier reit but never worked with them. Most of our clients are people like MRP, Shooshan, Vornado, Bernstein Management, Bozzutto, etc.

Exactly. I use that with my wife all the time, "You know, you're underrated funny. I didn't see that coming at all, which makes is much more funny."

So chicks dig backhanded compliments? Nice, I'll add that to my single dude notes

I would wait until 15 years of marriage at least before pulling that one out.

I'd start pulling out a lot sooner than that, or sleeping on the couch will be the least of your worries.

I'm Brian and I live in Richmond. I grew up in Staunton. I used to post way more but life just gets in the way.

I'm always looking for people to play some golf with in the area!

Richmond folks, if you are close enough to the Ashland area on a Tuesday, we go to Kreggers near Kings Charter almost every week. They have the best deal on craft brews around doing what they call Tier Tuesday. Beers 5% and below are 2 bucks, 5-7% 3 bucks, and 7% and up only 4 bucks. Their draft selection is usually on point, and their food is quite good as well.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'll offer up some interesting Hokie related things about me.

My great uncle is Dr. Akers in the dairy science department and if you've ever had him for an undergrad class, you probably hate him. Because of him Virginia Tech has always been in my life. In my first school picture in Kindergarten I am wearing a Virginia Tech rugby shirt.

My wife and I are Hokie alumni and our daughter was delivered by a Hokie. We say she's a purebred Hokie. She can go to any college she wants to (except for UVA, UNC, and Tenn), but if she doesn't go to Tech I am secretly going to be very disappointed.

I'm Meredith. I live in Bristol. I'm 23. I'm an occupational therapist. I didn't go to Virginia Tech, but I went to my first game when I was 4 years old and I've been as much of a fan as anyone else since then. My favorite places in the world are Blacksburg and Charleston, SC. Summer and Fall are my favorite seasons. The Cheesecake Factory is my favorite restaurant, and I enjoy traveling, tailgating, and days spent on South Holston Lake. I enjoy blogging about books and TV shows (The 100 is my favorite, watch it). I hate Winter, Mondays, and The University of Tennessee and its obnoxious fans. That's about covers everything.

Tennessee is one of my favorite places in spite of the University of Tennessee. It is more gorgeous every time I go there. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are amazing places to visit. I was incredibly close to having a full time job in Pigeon Forge just a couple of years ago, and still to this day regret not getting it.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Yeah, I absolutely love the state of Tennessee and the surrounding area! I live in Virginia, but I work in Tennessee haha. Pigeon Forge is about the same distance from here to Blacksburg, so we're down there often. It's beautiful, especially in the fall.

While I was born on the Naval Academy in Annapolis, my father was from Tennessee and my momma was from Charleston, SC., so I can relate. I love the state of Tennessee, and was once in the room with 11 related men with my same names, but I only knew one, my daddy. Spent a lot of family time in my younger years visiting in Charleston, and wish I could spend more time now that I am old enough to appreciate it. This is a fun thread.

I'm Brian. Graduated from Tech then went to sea because I am a glutton for punishment. After a few tours in the sandbox I am a retired Navy Diver and EOD TECH, now a government worker still working in the diving area for the Navy. Live in Alexandria, Work in DC and vacation wherever there is sand or snow. I love NFL Football, Hokie and Navy Football (Dad went to the Academy), Dodgers and Nationals, and Men's college hoops though to be honest I will watch pretty much any sporting event with a beer or scotch. My 6 year old son already wants me to teach him how to "play Hokie" and he is getting his younger brother and sister to play along.

I have been known to drink and TKP and get many downvotes on occasion...

Go Navy!

My father-in-law went to the Academy, and was career Navy. Actually still works at the Academy. Love going to the Army - Navy game every year.

Said in a post above, born on the Academy when my daddy was teaching there in 1950. Go Navy-beat Army. Oh, and I'm an Army vet, but daddy did his 20 and two wars, so I'm Navy all the way.

What is up TKP family, I'm Nick (nice name OP!). I live in Christiansburg, VA and go to Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke. Fell in love with Hokie sports at a young age (even though neither of my parents went there), and have bled orange and maroon since. I love anything outdoors and sports related, specifically soccer, basketball, football, hunting, kayaking, hiking, photography and anything at the beach. I despise LOLUVA and find their football program to be adorable (in a demeaning way). I would say I hate WVU as well, but I have family who attended and cheers for the Eer's so I'm going to say that I hate the part of the fanbase that isn't my family.

"GO BACK TO YOUR ROOM LITTLE BROTHER, THE CUP IS COMIN’ ON HOME!”

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

I'm Philip. I live in Roswell, GA and I'm a nuclear fuel analyst. I grew up on the east side of Atlanta and attended Georgia State University. By the grace of God I was raised a Virginia Tech fan because the vast majority of my family went to school there/taught there. The first VT game I attended was against UVa in 1986...I was 3 at the time and we won -- big! I used to make it to about a game per year in Blacksburg, plus I never miss a close game to Atlanta (GT, the Dome, and/or Charlotte). But the wife and I have a 1-year old little Hokie fan on our hands now so it'll probably be a bit before I make it back up to Blacksburg to take in a game. But I can't wait to take her to her first game in Blacksburg and keep the tradition alive and well!

PS: I fucking love TKP. Living in the heart of SEC country provides few outlets to interact with Hokie fans, and I appreciate the fuck outta everyone who makes this the best VT blog on the planet. If you've read this far and haven't done so yet, please join the Player's Club. Seriously, do it. Like, now! Click that little orange key and throw some love Joe's way.

I'm Rod, I like to party.

Josh. I grew up in Vinton, just outside of Roanoke, VA. Got my BS in Mechanical Engineering from VT. Took the 8 year plan with a stint in the Army in the middle. I was going to school to design robots and autonomous thingies but ended up getting into the water/wastewater consultant industry....somehow. That little curveball led me to get my masters from Johns Hopkins in Environmental Engineering. Doing mostly project and program management with business development mixed in. It does nothing for me.

Just moved back to the outskirts of Baltimore (Sykesville) after a 4 year stint in St Pete, FL. 2 kids under the age of 3. 1 more on the way. I'm pretty much a sports junky. Whatever sport...don't care. Golf and firing up the smoker make me happy. I wish i could fish more but the weekends aren't long enough. Apparently Liberty Reservoir is a nice smallmouth hotspot and I haven't had a chance to test it out.

Die hard Bills fan. In Tyrod I Trust, forever.

I'm Robert . Born and raised in a tiny town in south Texas . I did not go to school at Tech or ever been to the state of VIrginia yet . I've been a die hard Tech fan since Vick. I became a fan of Tech because how the team carried themselves and just loved seeeing the defense beat the crap out of people .Graduated from Texas A&M -Kingsville.d2 college but include some really rich history of talented football players such as Darrell Green, John Randle , Gene Upshaw . Also coach Buzz was an assistant coach her briefly here while getting his masters . Vince Hall was also born here . Salt water fishing is the way to go and currently making my own home brew.

This is what being a Hokie is all about. You have never even set foot on campus and were about to embrace the spirit. There are very few other schools that people are able to embrace without ever experiencing it in some sort of tangible way. Get to Blacksburg one day and you will be shown not only a beautiful campus but the best people on earth. Beers downtown are on me.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Appreciate it ! I might try to go this year depending on my schedule now that I have most of my loans paid off .

I'm Joe. I grew up in Franklin, VA which is just South of Suffolk in the SE corner of the state. I joined the army and left for basic one month after graduating from high school 17.5 years ago. I've spent almost my entire career in the state of GA (Savannah is by far the best place to be stationed) with the exception of deployments and a 3 year gig in Colorado Springs which was amazing but I longed to be back in the south. I currently live in Smiths Station, AL which is just across the Chattahoochee river from GA and I'm stationed at FT Benning, GA.

I love playing golf and drinking Bulleit bourbon, sometimes together. I'm set to retire soon and have no idea what I plan on doing I just know my wife says I have to find another job and since she's a unicorn I listen to her. We have two boys that can be little assholes sometimes but mean the world to us. My yellow lab is my best friend and my wifes yorkie is a bitch except when she's sleeping under my back at night.

I applied to Tech via the early decision process and never looked back. I try to make it up to Blacksburg at least once or twice for a game and at least once or twice during the summer for trip to the Cascades or New River.

Red Velvet cake/cheesecake combo is my favorite and I can eat mexican food every day.

Name's Lamar. Graduated from Tech in '05 (BA Spanish) and '06 (MAEd), as did my wife; just replace "Spanish" with "BS Math" for her. Did a second MA at American and my PhD at Georgia, which is why you may see me defend them from time to time.

  • Father of a kindergarten daughter whose perspicacity knows no bounds... and a 3-year-old son who is likely just as insightful (and will probably be Tech's star linebacker of the incoming class of 2031 because the boy tackles like a truck).
  • Currently living in the Research Triangle of North Carolina. Second-year postdoc soon to be assistant professor at UNC*, with a focus on Romance linguistics. Still, I haven't grown to like vinegar barbecue.
  • My sports interests are Hokie everything, Atlanta Braves baseball, Green Bay Packers football, and NBA basketball in general (though I don't like the Cavs, Spurs, Celtics, Pacers, Pistons, or Jazz at all).
  • I like cake and pie, but I like more different kinds of cake than pie, therefore by default that puts me into #TeamCake.
  • I also fix cars a bit. Usually my wife's. It saves time and money as well as time.

Hi I'm Sarah

I work for UCF at the athletic academic office. I am the team mom/hovering parent and attendance lady. My interests include but not limited to scheduling classes & tutoring, class checks, learning new slag and handshakes, providing pencils scantrons and many other academic things. I also try to make it to 2 VT games a year, hoping to see VT in Orlando this year as well.

I dislike-> getting calls from professors, NCAA rule change meetings (figure it out NCAA), PB&J, the Off Season, Florida drivers and last but not least getting calls from athlete's parents asking how so and so is. <- hello college kids parents do matter and love to hear how you're doing so please call them they would love it.

I could do a column/AMA topic.. just don't want to clutter the board during the season.

Tips for Orlando would be a great topic closer to the time-frame for sure.

Sadly not so sure about the Tailgate as I might be required to be present for the Florida High School championship games that will be held at UCF. Waiting the schedule and other back office issues. If I make the game it would probably be right on time or late

Hi I'm Eric.

Born and raised and currently still reside in Bland Co VA. I love VT anything. I also enjoy turkey hunting, and still do a little white tail hunting. Can not wait to get back to the crystal coast and surf fish for a week. I'm a Correctional officer by night, sleepy man by day. If you have any questions I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Where in Bland Co. are you? My wife is from Ft. Chiswell and has cousins in Bland, and her parents used to own a farm in Ceres.

Also, assuming you're at the Bland Co. Correctional, that's way out there in the sticks. haha Wife's dad hunts up that way sometimes.

I live in Bastian (the one between 2 tunnels) and you'd be correct. Best job I've ever had.

Awesome. Driven through there a few times on our way out to Bluefield.

Lived just around the corner from the Correctional in Poplar Hill near Staffordsville. Had friends in White Gate, and had a neighbor, Carrol Purdue who worked there at the jail. Great farms on the facility, always wished I could hunt them.

I've hunted a little tail in my day too. Many colors of it.

Hi, I'm Wayne.

Born in Gary Indiana, raised in SWVA. Wen't to Rye Cove High School and graduated in 98'. My father owned a small paving company which I worked from ages 12-18. So I was set on a life in construction from an early age. I went to Mountain Empire Community College for 1 semester but my heart just wasn't in it. So, I joined the workforce and went thru an apprenticeship in Kingsport TN. The last 20 years I've lived everywhere from DC to San Francisco (where I am as I write this). Trust me, my accent is a daily topic if I do anything in public. I own a house in Church Hill TN so SWVA/NETN is still my home, I became a VT fan in 99' after I joined my apprenticeship I was hanging out with an Arkansas Razorback fan while he watched football and they was showing highlights of a school from SWVA that was kickin' ass with a fella named MV7 and it tripped me out cause I had never paid attention to college sports before. I guess VT football is a way for me to keep myself grounded after all these years of being on the road. I was using a restroom on the NV/CA border and a guy yells GO HOKIES! in my face because of my hat. It startled me and It's happened to me several times at various locations. Please don't yell things at me while I got my junk in my hand. But It's the hometown team and that means something. Don't get me wrong, I live in TN because I don't like SIT (Not to be a political discussion). But my heart was raised in the dirt of SWVA. My wife is a student at Alabama and I'm going to a football game with her either this season or next. I plan on wearing maroon and orange and VT plastered all over my attire. I'm just up from Stanford also. I would like to see a stanford game while I'm in Frisco, I'll be wearing VT gear to that as well.

It is a natural gift I posess to create friction in sensitive situations.

Scott County represent!

I really never thought THE Dirk Smirkley would be in Scott County. I worked my first job in/for Scott County and that place will always be a second home to me. I miss riding those gravel backroads so much. If my wife wasn't against it, I'd buy a house on AP Carter Hwy and retire there.

Gate City born and raised!(Well, technically Born in Kingsport because we don't have hospital here but you know what I mean) Hiltons/Mendota is absolutely my favorite part of the county! What did you do there?

Hi, I'm Mike.

I used to be a successful head coach at a prestigious university in Virginia. Then I went to UVA and destroyed my career. I'm somewhere else now, and no one cares. I miss YOU!

Hi, I'm Hokie07ME. I am neither as funny nor as smart as I think I am, which I think is pretty well reflected in the quality of my posts.

This is my job:

XKCD will always get a leg from me.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

You're in Naval Intelligence too!?

Sorry, but isn't that a contradiction in terms ? (Gave a turkey leg to both posts :--))

Hello, Josh!

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

I'm Elliot currently in Badgerland (aka Madison Wi) working on my masters. Blacksburg will always be the best. Still haven't made it to a TKP tailgate yet (although thats been on my priority list for a while). I love my fiance (whom is also a Hokie), football, football, football, bourbon, basketball, beer, weather, football, and the Hokies. I'm getting married in June and hopefully coming back east to do that whole career thing and watch Hokie football in person again next year! speaking of which if any of you government engineer folks know of any openings im all ears.

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Yeah man get your ass back here and to lot 18. We love the weather and will talk it with yoh all day. We are getting some good stuff now. And at work we got golf ball sized hail.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'm Mike.

I make rockets and I like Hokie football.

I also like the Washington Redskins, but I don't think I should be telling people I'm a glutton for punishment like that.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

While I'm not a Skins fan, I'm hoping Kendall Fuller gets at least 15 pick sixes against the Browns this week.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

It'd probably do wonders for my stress levels.

My name is Tim and I am from Fredericksburg, VA. Graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 where I studied Building Construction. After graduation , I spent 6.5 years working in NOVA at a Mechanical Contractor. Now work for a top General Contractor in the Washington DC/NOVA area. My first Tech football game was 2003 Miami game when I was a senior in high school. I also make internet Hokie videos and have been since 2007. You can youtube search my user name to see those. Currently live in Herndon, VA

@VTimHokie85

I'm Tyler. Originally from Winchester, but I grew up in Houston. Always been a Hokie fan, but had zero intention of going to Tech (Georgetown or W&M were the plan). Spent my 4 years at Tech studying political science (which is Spanish for drinking and Netflix) and doing HT things. Been in the Navy for about 2 years now.

I like the Skins, Texas Rangers, VfL Wolfsburg, Manchester United, Caps, and Rockets, which probably will combine to take 30 years off my life expectancy.

I like all booze, but prefer whisk(e)y and Virginia craft beers (Apocalypse is the best), enjoy guns, casual saltwater fishing, playing pickup sports, fantasy football, reading case law, and live tweeting the debates.

You had me at Apocalypse.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I'm Andrew and graduated from VT in 2013 with a degree in biochemistry. Currently working with patent stuff. Got into VT football around 97 when my brother was going to tech. Live in Harrisonburg but am from the 757. I love everything Hokie related, cooking, photography, legos, and a good whiskey.

I'm Blake DeChristopher's beard. Began growing sometime in the late 2000s. Gained sentience in 2010. Began posting on TKP in 2012. Talents include crumb-catching and intimidation.

I'm Jay, a Blacksburg native who (gasp) went to JMU for undergrad. My freshman year was the year of That Game We Don't Speak Of. Talk about awkward. . . Graduated from there in 2015, not sure about going back to school yet. You could call me a "creative type," if you had to put me in a box. I worked at JMU's radio station as the technical director for two years, and hosted a live music show there as well. After a few unhappy dead ends, I've decided I want to work in radio and have spent my free time sifting through old show recordings making a highlight reel of myself to send out. I also enjoy making people laugh, but I think most of you knew that one already.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:

awesome--a WXJMer! there are a couple of us here who are WUVT alums.

p.s.--that JMU game was my second year at Tech

So I am surprised how many people embraced this today! Got me through my work day. Most of y'all got way more in depth than I did in my original post so I will get into it a bit more to be fair.

I grew up in Ridgeway, VA. Liked the small town life and really resisted the move to Richmond when I was 16. I got over it though. I started tech in 2004 as an engineering major and never finished. I was one of the Managers of Operations at Kings Dominion for a long time (I still work for them occasionally to help out). Actually if you go there to this day you will still here my voice all over the place because for some reason corporate decided they liked the way it sounded. I went back to Tech in 2011 to get my Hospitality and Tourism Management degree but never finished....The KD job kind of kept me away, and at the time it's what I wanted to do full time anyway. Things change and places change, though and now I work for Bobcat, and it's not so bad. My dad has a Masters and Doctorate from Tech and both of my brothers have graduated. I have a cousin there now and we pretty much bathe in Maroon and Orange.

End addendum.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Nick I meat to ask you this at the tailgate, what years were you a rides manager?

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

You were there before me I think. I started in '04, was a rides manager after the Cedar Fair buyout in 2006. Was Operations Sup by 2011. Some corporate changes kind of drove me away but I havnt left the place completely.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Hey guys, I'm Chris. I've met a few of you in Lot 18. I'm the dude who rolls up with Danny Coale Is My Spirit Animal and ever more Yuengling to add to the collection. I'm also the quiet guy who gets really not quiet when alcohol gets involved, so... sorry about that. I hope it at least ends up more amusing than annoying.

I grew up in Grundy, VA where our current VT wrestling coach spent some time winning a bunch of high school state titles. Currently I'm in Richlands, VA. I'm a photographer by trade but not the cool kind or the glamorous kind. The school and family portrait and sometimes weddings kind.

I like beer, watching the Hokies while drinking beer, re-watching the Hokies to see what I missed because of beer, the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. I'm also into Indy and NASCAR racing, good music and good books. I hate UVA (don't we all?), but my truest hate is reserved for Tennessee and all the stupid ass songs their fans sing to each other a every two minutes. My battle scars from Bristol may never heal.

Also, first post. Glad to get that out of the way!

NASCAR is my favorite but if some of you guys like racing and camping like done at Bristol you really need to look into the IMSA Weather Tech Championship at VIR every year in August. It is by far one of our favorite weekends of the year. RV camping and late night riding in a golf cart. Not to mention racing.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I recall (vaguely) talking to you guys about that last year at the OSU game. It sounds like a helluva time. Don't be surprised if me and Hagy show up one year with three cases of Yuengling.

I dig that your picture is of two rails. They'll get after ya.

Brett. Grew up in Norfolk, VA. Got hooked on the hokies in 2006 as a high school sophomore one day watching the hokies take on GT while my little brother, in 8th grade at the time, gushed about how bad he wanted to go to tech one day.
I like trying beer I've never had, anything that has to do with the beach, riding roller coasters, and watching football all day long with as many friends as possible. It always makes games more entertaining.

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

First of all to understand HorseOnATreadmill, you gotta understand who HorseOnATreadmill was.

Now, Horse was born to a three-legged mare of a mother. He was always ashamed of this, man.

And then right after that he's adopted by this man, Tito Liebowitz he's a small time gun runner and a horse racing promoter. So he puts Horse into training. They see Horse is good. He is damn good!

But then he had the race of his life. They pit him against his brother Nibbles. And Horse said, "No man that's my brother, I can't race Nibbles!" but they made him race anyway, and Horse, he beat Nibbles.

Horse said, "That's it!" he called off all his races, and he started doing whiskey, and he freaked out. Then in a rage, he collapsed, and his hooves no longer raced.

Wow.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

My name is Eric. Grew up in Stuarts Draft, VA (going to our 30th HS reunion the 8th, hopefully after the UNC game (please be a nooner). Chose VT engineering over UVA, Duke and GT because it felt like home. Met my wife in the Cellar going into my senior year when she picked me up with the line "Weren't you first in line for Grateful Dead tickets at Heironimous?" Stuck around VT for some grad school and to wait for her to finish before teaching high school hoodlums in Roanoke for a few years. Currently living in Kernersville, working in industrial real estate. Father went to UVA for Grad school, Father-in-law went to WVtech and roots for WVU, oldest son currently at UNC, so I wear a lot of O&M but go easy on the trash talk.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Hey hey - I grew up in Stuarts Draft too!

Go Cougars!

My name is James. I am from NC and visited VT when I was a junior for a showcase baseball tournament.

I tore my labrum there and I remember touring the campus after I was pulled from the game. Virginia Tech absolutely blew me away, it just felt like home.

I pursued chemical engineering/chemistry and diddled with some nuclear engineering.

I now live in Arlington, VA and I work for the United States Navy in DC working on systems engineering combat systems for the surface fleet

Things I love:
Icecream
Pie AND cake (sue me)
Playing guitar
Blowing shit up
Hokie football/basketball
Cubs baseball (fuck the braves I had WGN on Saturdays)
The Key Play (I need a life)
Long walks on the beach

Name is Matt from Winchester (Sup Mark?). Finishing up my half-victory-lap to graduate from Construction Engineering & Management in December from VT, the only school I applied to. Moving down to Charlotte in January to begin work for a large General Contractor so I'm currently trying to learn more about the area and find a place to live. Craft beer, hunting (Fall Rut, Spring Strut), and fishing. All DC sports, but a huge football X's and O's guy.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

What part of Charlotte you looking to move to?

Lived off of Pineville-Matthews near Charlotte Catholic when I did my internship summer of '15 and really enjoyed that area and all areas south of Uptown (obviously).

Biggest concern now is I would prefer to rent a house. Tough part is balancing cost and avoiding rough area.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

Hey man let's get a beer and watch a game this fall.

Name's Barry. I grew up in Greenville SC in a die hard Clemson family. Both parents and my sister are tigers. I came to Tech as a freshman in 2007 on a sports scholarship (not football). My first OV and my first Tech game was the 2006 Thursday night game against Clemson. I was hooked. My sister was a senior at Clemson at the time and was at the game as well. We have been a little bitter towards each other's schools ever since.

My next visit to campus was April 15-16 of 2007. In two visits I was able to see campus at its most jubilant and its most somber. However what I saw from the community and the VT fanbase during these two visits helped bring my college search to an end. I knew I was going to be a Hokie.

Fast forward ten years and I'm now back living in SC just below Greenville with my wife (who I met at Tech) and our two dogs. I'm currently a Student Pastor at a church on the edge of the Greenville/Piedmont line. I'm passionate about competitive powerlifting (which I got into at Tech), cooking and consuming large quantities of meat, and hiking/backpacking with the wife and dogs.

You all may hate me for this but I really don't care too much for the cake vs. pie debate. If I had to choose I would say I'm team cake but honestly I would typically rather have another helping of meat than dessert. Oh and while Top Gun is decent I'm more of a Tombstone man myself.

Using /s is for cowards.

I make a pretty good Shepard's Pie you should try sometime. The trick is to slow cook the lamb shanks for 12 hours before reducing the stock, and using puff pastry for the crust. Just might make you join team pie.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

If Shephard's Pie, pot pies, and pizzas are considered pie then I would turn to team pie right now.

Using /s is for cowards.

I'm Bob, living in the Atlanta metro area. I'm one of the old guys who spends time here. San Diego State undergrad in Applied Math.

Warhokie is my young'un. He and his twin were practically born on campus while I was in my 1st year of grad school at VT (Math). If you took Calc 1, in 89-90, College Algebra Summer of 90 or Business Math in Fall 90 and had a white guy as the TA (Calc 1) or Instructor, it may have been me. I apologize for what ever grade was inflicted upon you. I current do nerdy stuff for the Marketing org, in a VERY large IT company and I'm back in school trying to earn the PhD that my sons interrupted.

30 years after starting grad school at Virginia Tech, I finally defended my dissertation and earned my PhD.
Don't give up on your dreams.

I'm Don, born in Canada and moved to Virginia when I was 8. First saw VT campus when I was 12 and never even thought of going anywhere else. Eventually got to VT after a sojourn at Virginia Western Community College first because High School was lots of fun. Survived a year in Pritchard (also fun) and graduated from VT in 1994. After a brief tour in the stock market finally made it to medical school and now living the dream out in Nebraska. Got a great surprise for my 17 year old man-child this year...tickets to the Thursday night Miami game. He doesn't know yet so lets keep it on the down low...

Survived a year in Pritchard (also fun)

Cheers to a fellow Pritchard resident! I did my time in 5024 Pritchard. Also, your kid is going to love that Miami game. There's something special about Thursday nights in Lane.

I know...super excited. Flying into Charolotte and getting picked up by my brother in law in his RV, then heading to campus. Let the festivities begin.

I was definitely on the 5th floor of Pritchard...sad to say I can't remember the room now because I am an old man. I do remember stumbling out to Dietrich...YUM!

Name's Austin. Born and raised in Northern Virginia. My inner contrarian caused me to root for VT out of spite, as my father is a UVA alum. First Hokie game I ever watched was the 2004 matchup with USC at Fedex Field, been a fan ever since.

Graduated from Tech in May with a degree in Public Relations and moved back to Northern Virginia with my parents. Currently looking for a place of my own with my girlfriend. (Another UVA alum, don't know how I put up with them all) Was able to to make the Liberty game, and am hoping to make the next 3 home games as well as a possible trip to South Bend.

As my username implies, I fly airplanes for a living. Currently work as a flight instructor teaching people to fly, hoping to make the jump to the airlines within the next few months.

Now Miami wants to talk about it...

Name is Scott. Grew up in a military family that traveled all around until 1968 when we settled in Northern Va. and have been there ever since. Currently live in Clifton, a tiny little town in Fairfax county that hasn't sold out to developers. I retired in 2015 or I should say I got retired. I was the VP of Finance for a credit union until a new CEO came in. I have been a season ticket holder for over 20 years and travel to the games in 40 ft. motor-coach with the wife and 3 rotties. In the near future we are selling the home here in Clifton and headed somewhere in SW Va. where we can get about 10 - 20 acres and start creating a new house of entertainment.

Graduated from VT in 1980 and really wish I could go back because it is way cooler now than it used to be. I have learned a very important lesson recently, that you should cherish everyday and do the Hokie Pokie just in case that is what it is all about.

I'd imagine selling a house and land in Clifton will finance quite the spread in SWVA.

I feel like Scottyb could straight up buy Bland County for what he could sell his home in Clifton for.

I have been looking in Giles, Wythe, Floyd and Bedford.

Have spent several decades on rural property in Giles, lot to recommend it, but Floyd is way cooler in many ways. Any of those areas will give you access to property at an affordable rate. The New River makes Giles special, but again, the town of Floyd is pretty darned attractive from a diverse lifestyle perspective. Wythe and Bedford never made it on my radar, but I'm sure someone will tout them.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

We were very fortunate to buy at the right time, 19 years ago. We have just under 2 acres, a pool and the house is a perfect set up for us. All for $307K back then. We will see next year what the market will bear.

Don't know how much you socialize with the neighbors when you drive that bus to Tech, but if you've run into a 6'2" dude that drives a big white Haulmark and walks a sheepdog, I apologize for my dad's rowdiness. He didn't go to Tech, but he sure likes to tailgate like he did.

My name's Ryan, was born in Michigan then moved to Jupiter, Florida when i was 9. I currently am a freshman at the University of Florida. Interesting thing to note, one day me and some buddies were eating at a restaraunt on campus when all of the sudden a large family walked in with what looked like some coaches who were recruiting one of the kids. I looked closer and then realized that it was Torrian Gray sitting 10ft from me! I instantly sneaked a picture and took note of how often he talked to the mother (he was almost exclusively talking to her). Anyway back to stuff about me, I've been a die hard hokie fan since i was four years old when i walked into the living room trying to figure out what my Dad was so excited over. It turned out he was watching a hokie game (he went to VT back in 70s) and i have been hooked ever since.

Damn...so...what do you on gamedays in Gainesville? Also, nice to have another Hokie behind enemy(ish) lines.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Hmm well I've only had four so far since it's my first year here, but I'm currently pledging a frat so I head to the pregames for the UF game at the house, while I'm there I force my way to putting the Virginia tech game on one of the tvs, Then I head out to the game. If UF has a road game though then I just chill in my buddies room and make him let me put the hokie game on because he knows how obsessed I am about not missing a game

My name is Bryant, and I grew up in South Boston, VA. My dad and a few others in my family went to VT, so I grew up rooting for the Hokies. Applied to a few different schools, but knew that I would go to VT if I got in. Majored in civil engineering and graduated this past May. Got a job with a civil engineering firm in Raleigh, NC right out of school, and so far I really enjoy living down here. My main interests include obsessing over VT sports, craft beer, playing basketball, and playing guitar/piano/drums. Also, I discovered TKP pretty recently and have been making up for lost time.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

God I love South Boston. South Boston speedway is second to none. And ward Burton is a national treasure.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I was talking to someone on here the other day about Ward Burton. He and my dad were great friends growing up. I've been fishing out on his wildlife preservation a couple of times.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Pretty sure this is me right now:

but here it goes...

I'm Logan. Grew up in Roanoke VA. Went to Tech for chemical engineering but hated the curriculum so I switched into biochemistry and biology my junior year and got my degree in 2014. I went straight into grad school to get my PhD in Pathology at UVA (yea yea). I reside in Charlottesville now (obviously) and deal with it the best I can. I take pride in wearing my VT gear around and getting looks from people. I have never attended a UVA football game. I attend as many VT football games as I can (went to the BC game), but haven't been able to as much since starting graduate school.

People often tell me that Charlottesville is a great place to visit, and I'd agree with that, but I don't think it's a great place to live. As a recent example of the things I deal with here, I watched a person drive into a street sign in the walmart parking lot earlier today. They destroyed the front end of their truck.

Anyways, I chose to come to UVA so that I could stay close to my family and (now) fiance, and so that I could get research experience in a hospital setting. My research involves how the bacteria in the gut alter colorectal cancer progression/growth. Eventually I'd like to develop better medical diagnostics (mostly because I'm tired of going to the doctor and hearing "yea so we're not sure exactly what's wrong").

My doctor

My fiance is currently finishing her second degree, which roughly translates to "I have a stupid amount of free time." I spend most of that time playing videogames. I think I'm friends with quite a few of you here on Xbox Live but I think I've only ever played with one of you. I never invite any of you because I think you all just pity added me once upon a time in one of our videogame threads. If anyone ever wants to play though, my GT is xWSx Logan. I'm trying to get into computer gaming more, so if that's your thing, my steam account is xWSxLogan.

Me getting into computer gaming

If you made it this far, I'm sorry, and thanks for reading!

TL;DR: I am Logan, I attend UVA for graduate school, and I play too many videogames.

Unrelated, but if we're talking video games, I need some new Overwatch teammates on PS4 to get through this rainy, likely very hungover bye weekend inside my house. I'll gladly heal.

Jeff from Leesburg, VA. Grew up in Prince William County and later Clifton ('sup Scottyb!), graduated from VT in '96 with a degree in Computer Science. Have spent most of the last 20 years designing, building, and operating large-scale Internet networks. I have been known to hide the alphabet store receipts from Mrs. Freefall when adding to the bourbon collection. I am the proud father of two very precocious little girls (2 and 5) who are the reason why my wife now knows that she likes moonshine. Kids, they'll get after ya.

Together we have carved out our own little slice of heaven just north of Leesburg. After I promised to make an honest woman out of her, we decided that it would be a good idea to simultaneously (1) get married, (2) build a house on a 27-acre parcel I had bought years before, and (3) move around like gypsies for 9 months prior to our wedding. Seriously, we lived in an apartment, then moved in with her folks for a few months because the builder was late, then her folks sold their place a lot faster than expected so we moved in with my folks for a few more months, before finally moving into the new house... the day before the wedding. I cannot stress enough how bad an idea this was. Fortunately it was worth it, on both counts. She has willingly put up with my nonsense going on 10 years now, and we absolutely love where we live. I can sit on my deck and hear nothing but wildlife, I can shoot deer from my bedroom balcony (really, the Mrs. loves that .308 alarm clock!), and we even ended up with some awesome Hokie neighbors that tailgate in Lot 2.

I'm also an avid (although not current) skydiver, and know a guy who jumped into Lane many, many years ago. I don't know how realistic it might be, but that's been a bucket list item for me ever since I jumped out of that first plane a dozen or so years ago. Rest assured if it ever happens I'll jump with a #TeamPie flag.

BTW forgot to add: if any of you western-NoVA folks are up for an occasional happy hour I'm in.

Wow. I've heard of parents hating their daughter's live in boyfriend, but selling the house right out from under you? That's cold. /s

I'm Lee. Grew up in Bedford, VA, undergrad from Lynchburg College but my 2 older sisters went to Tech. Moved to CT after I graduated LC. Have been teaching HS math and am starting my 29th year. First Tech game was in Lane in 97 and pigged out at the Homestead afterwards. Went to see MV7 @ BC and have seen a few other good ones, but nothing beat racing home to watch the Hokies in the National Championship.

I miss VA a lot but miss the South in general. Looking to move back, likely to SE NC near the beach after I retire in the next couple of years. Hope I can see more Tech games in person when that happens.

I enjoy Hokies football, Andy Griffith reruns, coaching, and telling the world's worst corny jokes to my students. And while not yet a Key Play member, that may change as I find this site freaking awesome.

Thanks for all of the legs, and Go Hokies!!!

I like where this is going!
