Former LSU athletic director Skip Berman on Les Miles

Of interest: said he turned down to Michigan job in 2011.

When Saban left LSU for the dolphins they had a list of candidates:

"Bertman rattled off a long list of candidates that LSU considered in some capacity when Saban left for the Dolphins:

* Louisville coach Bobby Petrino rubbed him the wrong way.

* Bertman liked the idea of hiring Steve Spurrier if Saban left, but Spurrier was impatient and accepted the South Carolina job in November, a month before Bertman hired Miles.

* Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer did not seem interested in the job.

* President George H.W. Bush personally called to vouch for ex-Texas A&M coach R.C. Slocum, but Bertman didn't consider him a viable candidate."

Could you imagine...

I think we would be here all day and night if we started listing off the places that reached out to Frank to see if he was interested in their HC gig.

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

Yeah but I'd love to know. We know of UNC (that was the big one), and now LSU. Don't recall any others right off hand but I'm sure there are some.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I'd almost guarantee he was called for nearly every major job opening since at least the national title game appearance. He's also the kind of guy who would have politely turned them down immediately and not let it get out he was contacted, for both his and the other school's benefit.

Alabama was one in 97. From what I've heard from people who followed it at the time Beamer was the #2 or #3 choice and would have taken the job if offered but they went with Dubose. By the time Dubose was fired VT was built up enough that Frank was no longer interested.

I agree he was contacted many times, but LSU is a whole different animal. Many would argue this is a top 1-5 job in the country.

UNC would have made Frank and his staff the highest paid staff in the Country at the time.

They were desperate to get back to Mack Brown status, seeing their program fall from legitimate elite status (if only temporary) and a season long Top 10 ranking in 1997 to 3-8 in 1999. I remember the hype surrounding that program here in NC in 1997, and they very seriously could have taken a step to perennial powerhouse program had they made the right hire.

Thank God Jim Weaver never had the chance to be the AD to replace Frank Beamer.

We would be at the level of NC State if that had happened, or maybe even worse.

Gary Darnell is the only person on Earth who wishes that had happened.

The clincher was that Les Miles smelled like corn dogs.

I know someone who may be interested in the LSU job...

Did you know I used to be a cop?

EEeww...she's yucky!
