In case you want to listen to it
This Podcast is hosted by Joe Ovies who is one of the guys on 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh on the drive home every day. For WRAL Sports Fan he has a couple Podcasts he does every week, and this one in particular is about UNC and NCSU and what to expect for their games every week. Interesting listen if you want to hear what some of the media down here is thinking going into these games this weekend.
Highlights.... everything after about 8 mins into it is about the NCSU game:
- VT is by far the best defense UNC will have faced this year.... By far
- UNC is unlike any offense we have seen. ECU is similar, but UNC does things we haven't seen.
- Trubisky should better against us because he doesn't run, which apparently is what we schemed to want Marquise Williams to do the last 3 years (18 runs per game on average)
- Any Heisman talk about Trubisky is unjustified and premature. He shouldn't have to be bailing the team out late in games.
- Attendance will be OK... VT will show up, because there's a looooot of Hokies in the area.
- Dave Doeren at NCSU sent out a desperate mail this week to fans begging people to come and stay for every game. Ouch
- "North Carolina and NC State should be stepping stone jobs."
I do take issue with the fact they were saying we schemed to allow Marquise Williams to run on us the last few years. Ummm, no he ran on us because mobile QBs have long been our kryptonite, and he was taking the easy yards to move the ball. If your QB can't run on us, that plays to our advantage.

I have some family in Apex who are casual State fans and are going to the UNC/VT game with some out of town friends because the ticket prices were insane especially when compared with how cheap the UNC/VT game tickets were. Might be a big part of the problem.
This was more in line with the pass-outs they get for each game. That is, NCSU fans go back to the lots and tailgate at halftime, and it generally takes until the middle to end of the 3rd quarter for the stadium to fill back up. He's trying to change this culture to have a better home field, and he's getting raked over the coals by the Wolfpack faithful for it,.
They can leave the stadium and come back? I thought all stadiums were no re-entry. You learn something new everyday.
I guess people aren't exactly beating down the doors to watch NC State play haha
You joke, but being able to drink at halftime and the fact that there's a dedicated student tailgate lot are by far the best things about going to games there.
Perhaps they do the LOLUVA thing, and buy several tickets so they can go out and come back. It's ok if you have a another ticket.
UNC's offense has me so nervous. I know we have allowed a low completion percentage, but for some reason I see the front 7 as our strength and the secondary as our weak point. Our guys have been beat quite a few times so far this year in one-on-one battles. None of the corners are lockdown. Maybe the pass rush has inflated our pass defense stats, I don't know. If we win this game I'll be on cloud 9.
I don't generally enjoy the Adam and Joe show because I think they're blowhards, but pretty much everything said there is reasonable. I don't think State will have trouble filling up Carter-Fin on Saturday though, even with the weather.
I'm with you on the Williams thing. I think UNC used the designed QB runs so much with him against the Hokies because he had the skills to be successful and our defense struggled against those plays. Foster would have loved to have Williams sit back and try to pass from the pocket because he wasn't accurate or consistent enough to pick apart the secondary.
