They are coming in high off that Louisville win, I hope UNC is hung over from their FSU win and we just take it to them, much like we had done to us by ECU after we beat OSU.

This game could very easily be 21-13 or 21-17 at half time. I think Clemson will adjust at halftime, but Boston College is challenging them pretty well through one half of football.

I think there needs to be a clause in the targeting rule that says "punching or elbowing any player in the face is considered targeting." If that's not dirty, I don't know what is.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Boulware is a dirty player. He was bad during the Louisville game as well. I thought the Cardinals might take him out. Hopefully, he gets a taste of his own medicine at some point.

Bouleware shouldn't be playing football this week anyways. I can't believe they've just let him off the hook for literally trying to choke out Lamar Jackson on national television. Yes, football is a physical sport. But it isn't the UFC. Dude should have been suspended. From what I've seen that kid is a pretty dirty player.

So far, Clemson doesn't strike me as unbeatable in terms of talent & execution.
But they are damn near untouchable in terms of penalties against, and getting flags called on their opponents that just don't seem to exist. Between the PI called on BC last drive of first half when the clemson guy ran through the DB, and the pretty clear push-off by the Clemson receiver on BC's DB to get separation for a TD...
Well let's just say I really don't want to play them w/ ACC officials calling the game.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think Dabo's strategy is to whine and bitch to the referees so much after every foul called against them, that the refs won't want to call more than 1 foul per drive on them instead of having to deal with a literal baby. Clempson players know this and mug receivers, choke out QBs, and punch people in the neck, knowing that the percentage of calls against them will be lower and lower each time they do it.

I was surprised that we had a good stat like that.
That 8 game stretch started in 2010 with wins over #23 NC State and #24 Miami, included #20 GT and #24 UVA (38-0, bro) in 2011, #14 Miami in 2013, #8 Ohio State and #19 Duke in 2014. The loss in that stat is the 2012 Clemson game. And the game that keeps it from going further back was GT in 2009.
On the flip side, our home record against ranked teams in that stretch is probably worse than the opposite.

Everytime I watch a Loeffler offfense I just want to find Brewer and apologize to him. Just tell him, sorry cause I know it hurts to watch basically the same VT offense dominate. Throwing quick passes so the QB isn't getting destroyed every play. Running misdirection package plays that build on each-other. Simple plays that make the Qb's job easy. I really liked Brewer and I want him to know that he got screwed under Loeffler. He was agreat Hokie playing for the wrong OC.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
There was one point they mentioned tonight, Loeffler never has consistency at QB. The one time he was finally able to have a QB for two years, Ohio State breaks him. So, I kind of feel bad for him on that front.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
My point exactly. When I watch his offense it makes total sense. If I know it's going to be a dropback pass pretty good chance the d-coordinator does too. Eventually they're getting to the QB and eventually he's going to get hurt. Unless you're playing with Patriots line, which we aren't/weren't. With our new offense I never know where the play is going and we focus on quick plays or vertical routes setup so that the defense isn't teeing off on QB.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Clemson being absolutely classless. 35-10. 4th and 2 in the redzone and you go for it? Against an opponent that is clearly overmatched. Kick the field goal and stop being douches.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I never like seeing a player get hurt, but it would kind of be karma for Watson to get hit and suffer something like a sprained knee, that kept him out of their next two games.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Agreed. No reason for the first team anything to even be in the game at this point. We didn't need our first team to score against BC. We didn't need our first team to hold the shutout either. It's just Dabo being a dick because Boston College scored.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
But didn't we have the second team offense in at that point? Or was that in the 3rd quarter? Either way, it's more acceptable under those each of those circumstances in my eyes at least.

Listening to Mack Brown's Texas war stories gets sadder and sadder every season.
Broadcasters are allowed to bring up their playing/coaching days from time to time, but it's a weekly occurrence for Mack Brown. Usually multiple times per game.

Let me reiterate what has been said above. Just watched a replay of BC/Clemson. 2 4th downs from the 2 inch line and nothing. They are bad! Where is that hot seat thread?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Watching the ECU-USF game. I really do think ECU has potential. Their play calling just sucks, and the fact that we wanted to destroy them. I am a Scottie Mo fan.

Water has actually pooled on the field in Raleigh. Players are drenched and we're only 3:00 into the game. This one's going to be an absolute sh*tshow by halftime.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I did see UNC grounds crew show a tweet yesterday in which a plug was pulled from the field and a bottle of water was poured in its place. It drained away, no pooling.
Asked a few people on twitter for field updates, but no response. VT twitter has shown conditions. Hope our bad weather winning formula can come through on the road trip.

Fat man touchdown by Pitt. LT lined up as an eligible receiver. Play moved to the right, and the throwback for a 30-yd TD. Dude is pumped up right now.

As I said over on the other thread, the ESPN alternate channels are primarily only on satellite providers, and are used in lieu of replacing the main feed.
For instance, if the VT game is on the alternate, then that is where folks with satellite go to get the game if they were supposed to get it on ESPN2. If they tune to ESPN2, they'll get a blacked out feed.
I'm on FIOS, so no alternate channels.
Of course, there is the option that they could punt the end of ND/NC State to ESPNews or ESPN3. Alternatively, we could end up over there.

7 D starters, 3 O starters out and 7 turnovers. Greatest ugly game I've ever watched. Some call it luck, I'm thinking it's mostly bad luck. Hey, it's college football. Great win by the Hokies today though. Congrats.

Man, the Miami-FSU nostalgia from ESPN is over the top. Why every year during this game must ESPN continually remind us that this is a rivalry game? Do they focus their production like none of their audience actually follow football and know nothing about the games or teams? We get it already. This rivalry is almost as bak as the teams.

Once again, I disagree with a targeting call. They couldn't overturn it because it was a "grey" area hit. Then stop doing guilty until proven innocent with the call. However, Miami fans being Miami fans, are pelting the field with garbage. lol
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think that it was targeting. To me, it looked like the defender's shoulder went into the chin of the WR. He didn't have to go in that high, which is essentially the point of the rule.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The problem with that is the definition of high. Because I've seen dudes hit a guy square in the shoulder pads and get tossed. Huelskamp ejection last year for example.

My problem isn't the legitimate targeting calls. The call is clearly needed for player safety. I'm just saying there shouldn't be a "grey" area for a play that is so important in the game that results in a player ejection.

Clemson gave up more points to BC already than we did all game.
VT > Clem confirmed
Damn. I came here to say that exact same thing.
lonely in here tonight.
'spose I'll entertain myself.
They are coming in high off that Louisville win, I hope UNC is hung over from their FSU win and we just take it to them, much like we had done to us by ECU after we beat OSU.
that's what I was hoping as well
This is going to be a blow out
Yup, watching BC on offense is a lot like watching us last year. Get a 1st and Goal, only get three points.
Get a 1st and goal, get zero points.
Get a first an....... Didn't get many of those.
Be careful, the Loeffler Brigade will get very upset.
Silly Clemson, don't you know that BC isn't supposed to score all game. Oh well. Better stats for BC means more prestige for us from here on out.
This game could very easily be 21-13 or 21-17 at half time. I think Clemson will adjust at halftime, but Boston College is challenging them pretty well through one half of football.
Clemson plays BC every year, they should have them figured out.
/ :(
Yeah, but they haven't played Lefty before, because Lefty's three years at VT came during the six years between Clemson/VT matchups.
BC is bad
That didn't look like shoulder contact to me....
Either way that was such a weird/unecessary hit. Put your shoulder in his gut son.
Looked closer to a clothesline
watching at full speed that's certainly what it looked like
I really dislike Dabo.
I think there needs to be a clause in the targeting rule that says "punching or elbowing any player in the face is considered targeting." If that's not dirty, I don't know what is.
Boulware is a dirty player. He was bad during the Louisville game as well. I thought the Cardinals might take him out. Hopefully, he gets a taste of his own medicine at some point.
Or at least call the personal foul...
After the choke hold last week and the forearm shiver tonight, Boulware is getting a rep as a dirty player.
Just got downvoted to hell on Reddit by the Clemson mob, but through orange glasses this is apparently a love tap to the chest.

I really, really, really hate Clemson.
I don't like Clemson fans, that is clear if you know me at all on here, but Tigernet Clemson fans are a whole other breed.
So far, Clemson doesn't strike me as unbeatable in terms of talent & execution.

Otherwise known as Krzyzewski-ing.
I like that stat they showed how we're 7-1 our last 8 road games against ranked teams.
I was surprised that we had a good stat like that.

I'm guessing at this point it's just easier for Dabo to encourage his guys to embrace that everybody hates them.
It's kinda goofy that they're running the Herzlich story at this moment.
This is why Dabo is so highly revered.
I never like seeing a player get hurt, but it would kind of be karma for Watson to get hit and suffer something like a sprained knee, that kept him out of their next two games.
Agreed. No reason for the first team anything to even be in the game at this point. We didn't need our first team to score against BC. We didn't need our first team to hold the shutout either. It's just Dabo being a dick because Boston College scored.
Judge not. We went for it on 4th and short near the goal line while we were blowing ECU out two weeks ago.
But didn't we have the second team offense in at that point? Or was that in the 3rd quarter? Either way, it's more acceptable under those each of those circumstances in my eyes at least.
Our first team was still on the field. Evans came up short on the keeper and we crushed Summers for the safety on the next play.
Okay so yeah. That was in the mid-3rd quarter after ECU had scored a very long TD pass. Very different scenario. At least in my opinion.
Listening to Mack Brown's Texas war stories gets sadder and sadder every season.
Broadcasters are allowed to bring up their playing/coaching days from time to time, but it's a weekly occurrence for Mack Brown. Usually multiple times per game.
That is unless he just leaves the game in the 3rd quarter.
That's on ESPN for scheduling him for a 10:30 kickoff in Utah and then wanting him in the Bristol studio by noon.
But then again, ESPN still thinks that 3 and a half hours is still a safe window for a college football game.
O, I agree ESPN was totally at fault.
Let me reiterate what has been said above. Just watched a replay of BC/Clemson. 2 4th downs from the 2 inch line and nothing. They are bad! Where is that hot seat thread?
Not our game, but fill-in-the-blank Tennessee GameDay signs:
Tennessee ruined _______
(e.g. ...BBQ)
I liked the checklist sign.
Texas has
X Better BBQ
X Super Bowl 50 MVP
Tennessee has
X Better UT
And on a little league note, GO PRO TITANS! You have to check this kid out. Hey FU, send this kid and offer!

"Got $20? Get a State/ND ticket, a drink and a hot dog."
It's pouring in Raleigh.
Don't know if anyone is watching College Gameday but they just had quite the moment with Corse. Cheers to 20 years of headgear!
Anybody that wants a little preview about what the weather is going to be like for our game, just check out the ND@NCSU game right now.
Failed flea-flicker by NSCU in driving rain. Because DUH.
You can see the torrents of rain coming down in the pools on the field. I bet it's miserable on the field, and a blast in the stands!
So how similar is UNC and NCSU fields cause wow that is a lot of water.
I was wondering the same.

It's one big Slip-N-Slide in Raleigh!
(this is in reference to the ND fumble and NC State recovery)
"Ruling on the field is a fumble, recovered by Notre Dame. After further review, call is confirmed." -NFL refs, probably.
Boy, there sure is a lot of rain in North Carolina.
Looks like they're running in quicksand. Very slow. "Two feet into the ground" is not wrong.
Ugh delay. Hope it doesn't impact our game.
It will. They're throwing up a stat line where Minnesota/Iowa just started the 4th quarter. NCSt/ND is still in halftime.
Ironically, it seems like the folks getting our game on ESPN2 are actually better off...
Yeah. If you get ESPN alt you should be good. I just hope we don't get a delay to start the game.
WatchESPN is the other option.

Of course, there is the option that they could punt the end of ND/NC State to ESPNews or ESPN3. Alternatively, we could end up over there.
Ah....thanks for the clarity. Dang satellite company says it's on the alt as well. Cmon run game!!
espn2 here, thank God
NC State goes to punt, punter's knee is on the ground.
Just as well, since the punt wouldn't even have gotten them a first down anyway.
Notre dame has 46 total yards of offence with a minute left in the 3rd quarter...
If we can pull of the win here Miami looks to be the only legit threat so far. Pitt is struggling against GT. 27-27 with like 8 min left.
Yeah. But....Pitt. Doesn't matter how good they are they always have been a thorn in our side. Hopefully that all changes starting this year though.
Agree. I'm trying to be optimistic though.
If we find a way to win today in this weather, I'll be hype train fully engaged. Being optimistic rules.
Man ECU down 38-22 with 2:30 left. Gonna end up 2-4. Great job firing Ruffin ECU.
ecu gave up 62 points...
game isn't over yet
edit - espn deceived me.
Jesus. They've given up 38 points in the 4th quarter. How is that even possible?
Edit: that was a mistake by ESPN scoreboard. it's only 38-22
Blocked punt likely just won the game for NC State.
Notre Dame got the memo about QB power and promptly fumbled.
When is JT Barrett going to go to the NFL already?
Folks, start getting your Brian Kelly farewell speeches ready. I'm not sure he finishes the year at this pace.
His insistence on slinging the ball around in a hurricane was completely baffling to me.
Yet he had the balls to call out his center for bad snaps. In a game where there were literally inches of water on the field.
He's thrown so many kids under the bus that there will be no one left to ride it back to South Bend.
Houston falls the Midshipmen. Bye bye playoff hopes? Obviously depends on how the rest of the CFB world plays out but still gotta wonder
Love seeing Navy beat a top 10 team
A Tennessee player is being taken off the field on a back board. Awful sight.
The referee in Alabama-Arkansas has the last name Loeffler. Related to someone we used to know?
Looks like Tom Herman spent the week in Austin interviewing. Didn't Fuente lose to the Midshipmen the week he interviewed at Tech? or was that the Temple loss?
Looks like I should root for Tennessee. That SEC quality loss, amiright?
I know I am.
Tennessee is so damn lucky. I hate that stupid rule.
Is...anyone watching this craziness unfold in College Station?
Tennessee game is unreal.
TOUCHDOWN TENNESSEE!
That team is so clutch it's not even funny.
How does UT always manage this?
They've sacrificed so many children. So many.
Texas A&M surrender cobras all over the place.
Tenn has a horseshoe up their ass. If that kid goes down at the 10 the game is over. Hard to do I know, but got careless
It was inspired to knock the ball out instead of tackling him.
Butch Davis planning an 8-second offense.
Edit: I guess he was planning to ice the kicker.
Tennessee may not pull this one off, after all.
Probably OT in College Station, unless Tennessee has another miracle in their pockets.
OT!
I can't believe this.
Wow. Biggest shank ever?
Words cannot describe how bad I feel for Hokie Girl
edit- Hokie win and a Vol heartbreak. This one was for you HokieGirl
or the kicker who shanked the heck out of that.
Edit: Now she's pretty happy.
:)
P.S. When the Vols win off of pure luck and the other team's fans complain, they say a win is a win. When the Vols lose, they blame turnovers and "bad officiating". Which way is it?
UT win again? OT will tell.... Ugh
I hate college OTs. They reward the lucky over the good.
UT will win this game. That's alright because the good guys are Top 20 tomorrow
Hey, we're making the Vols look good right now.
And vice versa
Maybe aTm can pull this out. At the 1 after replay confirmation.
Yes!
Oh, y'all hurt me. And I thought we'd grown so close these last few weeks.
Still much love for you allvol. Impressive to even be in a winnable situation with 7 turnovers. You're always welcome here!
7 D starters, 3 O starters out and 7 turnovers. Greatest ugly game I've ever watched. Some call it luck, I'm thinking it's mostly bad luck. Hey, it's college football. Great win by the Hokies today though. Congrats.
Those Vols are damn tough. That football team has a hell of a lot of fight in them. You guys will be fine and will probably still be playing in the SEC Championship game. I'd like to see them knock off Bama. That would be fun.
What was the diagnosis for the kid who got taken off on a back board? That looked awful.
Was released from hospital and came home with the team. No medical report released that I've heard of.
Glad to hear it. Always very scary when a player has to be taken off on a board. Hope he recovers fully from any injury that he may have.
Thank God. He looked completely paralyzed on the field. I kept hoping for a thumbs up or even a finger twitch as they rolled him out.
Vols' luck runs out. A&M wins it in 2OT. Dobbs picked to end the game.
Tennessee's luck had to run out at some point, but that was a hell of a game.
Thank God.
Do we want Miami to win because it would set up a better win (knock on wood) against them or would we rather have them lose?
yes, want a Miami win.
I'd like a Miami loss. Gives us more breathing room in the Coastal if we drop one.
Also... I fucking hate Miami, so anytime they lose I'm happy.
Same here. It would look better for tech to beat a flop ten Miami, but I would love for Miami to lose every game.
Today's a happy day
FSU QB just fumbled twice in the same play - never seen that before
Wake Forest beat Syracuse. Head scratcher of the day?
Dave Clawson is a program builder. We're all going to be laughing and then one season it'll hit that wake forest has ten wins
Final Score: BYE- 80, LOLUVA- 0
Man, the Miami-FSU nostalgia from ESPN is over the top. Why every year during this game must ESPN continually remind us that this is a rivalry game? Do they focus their production like none of their audience actually follow football and know nothing about the games or teams? We get it already. This rivalry is almost as bak as the teams.
With 10:00 left in the 4th quarter of Michigan-Rutgers, Rutgers has a total of 10 yards (5 each passing and rushing) and zero first downs. Ouch.
1.) I think Harbaugh is trying to recreate GT-Cumberland.
2.) Hey, Rutgers, how is that move to the Big Ten working for you?
nah, they're just trying to top what osu did to them last week.
You stay classy Miami
fuck Miami fans
Miami fans are sad
Once again, I disagree with a targeting call. They couldn't overturn it because it was a "grey" area hit. Then stop doing guilty until proven innocent with the call. However, Miami fans being Miami fans, are pelting the field with garbage. lol
I think that it was targeting. To me, it looked like the defender's shoulder went into the chin of the WR. He didn't have to go in that high, which is essentially the point of the rule.
I'm just not sure. The rule is so hazy and that's a problem. If the call has to be argued nearly every time, there is something wrong with the rule.
If you don't go high, it doesn't get called. It really is as simple as that.
The problem with that is the definition of high. Because I've seen dudes hit a guy square in the shoulder pads and get tossed. Huelskamp ejection last year for example.
I'm not saying there aren't bad calls, but if u hit above the shoulders, you're likely to get called on it.
My problem isn't the legitimate targeting calls. The call is clearly needed for player safety. I'm just saying there shouldn't be a "grey" area for a play that is so important in the game that results in a player ejection.
I think it was called and upheld because he lead with the crown of his helmet. Even though he didn't make contact with it, he was attempting to make a dangerous play.
It should have just been personal foul from the forearm he threw at his head after the intial contact.
Flipping channels and missed what happened. Did the fans throw trash on the field?
edit, never mind say the other post
Good amount man!
Each and every one of those UM fans should go headbutt a knife.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL FSU blocks the PAT to keep the lead
UM deserves that blocked PAT
Wow. Lose on a blocked PAT. Bummer for them but who cares. FIRST PLACE!!!!
LOLZ
UNC/Miami is going to be a contest between two very pissed off teams.
But wait...of course there's more to the story!
When you click "See More"...
OH GOD LOL.
Okay....who did this?
That's funny right there.
Dunno but happy to see the division leaders consoling the Florida teams. And good on isehokie for being another ise hokie.
Is it just me or did it seem like there were a ton of upsets and a ton of ejections on targeting today?
I need Josh Rosen to pull off this comeback so I'll have a perfect week in pick'ems.
Well almost perfect week, thanks Matthew.
New day in the Pac 12. Oregon and Stanford not what they used to be and the teams from Washington look like the best two teams in the conference at the moment.
When do the Chip back to Oregon rumors start?
In a completely worthless stat, VT scored more than any other team on ABC yesterday.
VT - 34
BYU - 31
FSU - 20
Miami - 19
MSU - 14
NC State - 10
Notre Dame - 3
UNC - 3
what's funny about yesterday's win, to me is...
this is the worst drubbing handed out against a ranked opponent on the road since 2011 Uva (38-0 bro)...that year, the Boohoos were also coming off an emotional win against Florida State that came down to a fg attempt.
Anyone watching UGA-USCjr? USCjr has a TE that's a beast.
Hahahahaha. On sides kick recovered for a TD? Well that back fired.
At least they got the ball back relatively quickly.
