Statistically VT is at worst the 3rd best team in the ACC and 1st in Coastal Division. FPI has us below 50% for 2 teams the rest of the season with Miami and (arm)Pitt. However, If we do what we are "supposed" to do from this point on and win one of those 2 games we would be looking at double digit wins in CJFs 1st regular season. Hype Train or Soul Drain?

I could be wrong but I don't think you can count a win from two games that are just below 50% becuase otherwise you'd have to figure in a loss out of the other games. I'm not sure I said that so it makes sense... I've had a couple few scotches it's Sunday evening here in Manila.
A couple few... so, 6?
You are a good Hokie.
I think I'm on four but I don't measure so four is relative.
If nothing else, you've given me a good frame of reference for the next time I have to explain that it is indeed 5 o'clock somewhere.
For that, I leg you!
Glad I'm not the only one.
Scotch only gets 1 turkey, you need to upgrade to bourbon.
Wild Turkey for the man card.
Bourbon is available but too pricey for anything decent.
Try Kentucky Bourbon or bullet bourbon.
He's in Manila, my guess is they all are expensive
I've seen Bullet price was something like fifty bucks for a liter. Makers Mark is a little cheaper but It's not my favourite. At home, I buy Buffalo Trace in the half gallon bottles.
Plus, when you're abroad, Scotch is so cheap. When I lived in Tanzania, the only Bourbon available was Jim Beam, but there were like ten different Scotches that all cost ten dollars a bottle.
I mean I love me some Bourbon, but that's hard to beat. Maybe if I could have found Woodford (which surprisingly is available in most airports), but I'll take ten dollar scotch over Jim Beam.
Anything is possible
Done
Going to be interesting in seeing how the computers adjust to ND just being bad, Miami losing to the first team they played with a pulse, and the Hokies continuing to win.
I hope they keep Miami and ND in high regard despite all the facts to the contrary. We want every team we play to go 11-1 with the lone loss to the Hokies.
ND is just hoping for a bowl right now.
I hope they keep Miami and ND in high regard despite all the facts to the contrary.
That's a damn good point. How can we look good if the supposed tough games on the rest of our schedule are no longer valued when we play them ?
To go 10-2, we need to go 3-1 against the four teams that were projected to beat us as of yesterday (and take care of business against the others). That means beating two of ND, Duke, and Miami.
I may be drinking the Kool-aid that the hype train's meal car serves mixed with bourbon, but at this point this season will be disappointing to me if we don't win the Coastal or get to 10 wins with a bowl included.. Not unexpected, but disappointing.
Wait. Duke was predicted to beat us as of yesterday? Seriously?
Not any more, surely.
Syracuse.
I thought a 14 win season was now a possibility?!
We have the opportunity to win EXACTLY one game this week.
I'm hoping that's what the team is focused on.
This.
I spent the better part of the entire 2000s analyzing every possible scenario for us to get back to the BCS championship game. Team X loses to team Y but comes back to beat team Z, etc etc. I was spending so much time running through hypotheticals that I forgot the most important part of fandom: enjoy every minute. So now, it's one game at a time for me. The only thing I'm thinking about is watching 3+ hours of football next Saturday starting at 345 pm Eastern.
Both these guys have a great philosophy and really get it. Period. End. Agree.
When I join the team, I'll focus on that too.
No need for Coach speak on a fan forum. 'Fan' is short for Fanatic, and speculating is part of being a fanatic.
^^^^^ THIS
Go crazy Hokie Nation, our coaching staff will worry about the team and keeping them grounded. I am confident everything we talk about is just noise to them. But this is what makes being a fan so great, all of the joy and carefree prognostication with no real world responsibilities. It's why we love sports!! On to the HYPE train!!!!
huh. Going into the season I would have been happy if we had won 6 to keep the bowl streak going. Of course the last time that was the case was 2004.....that turned out pretty well for us.
More importantly, to all the recruits out there: ARE YOU SEEING THIS
Let's worry about Syracuse.
This may need it's own thread - please repost daily!!!!!
it's a trap !
Lol SevenLayers, you've been a Hokie too long. :--)
The last twenty years have given us all that gut reflex.
Games I feel confident about if we show up: Syracuse, Duke, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, u.va.
Games I feel like we could be in a dog fight: Miami, Pitt.
Team I want us to absolutely embarrass on national tv: Clemson.
Teams I want in a bowl game if we do not make the playoff: Tennessee, Michigan, or Ohio State to get revenge!
I'd take a game against Michigan or Ohio State in the playoff, too. Or both, really. You could also throw Bama in there. I'm not picky.
Either team works for me! OSU would make a best-of-3, or we could make Danny Coale's catch a footnote in our history of playing Michigan.
Let's leave out bama. I was there the one time we beat them in a sleet rain snow, but too many other games still give me indigestion.
I don't think my heart can take another match up with Tennessee this year.
I mean we are much better than I expected this year, and I'm really enjoying the direction we're headed, but I haven't had enough KoolAid yet to think we can beat Michigan or OSU this year.
If, somehow, we end up playing them in a bowl, I doubt we get revenge. Not this year. Two years from now we might be in a really really good spot.
We need to be focused every game from here on out. ND might be playing like a bad team, but they have an NFL QB and years of better recruiting. We don't need to be writing anyone off yet.
I agree. They were ranked in the top 10 pre-season, not that rankings that early really matter all that much.
Anybody with that much talent has the potential to win any game if you don't take them seriously, even if they've stumbled all season long.
FPI Projections:

FPI predicts we win 8.7 games. IMO, FPI isn't very good. VT is ranked 28th best team in the country and Miami is ranked 14th. They value something (preseason predictions?) a little too heavily. Joel's stats are way better, which are essentially a compilation of computer rankings (not sure if he includes FPI, probably not).
How can we be projected to go 8.7-3.8? We can't play a half game. Are they factoring in possible conference title games and bowl games into that? If so it means their projection has us missing a bowl game more than half the time (because we win the conference 7%, meaning we play 14 games at least 7% of the simulations. In order to get back to an average of 12.5 games we have to miss bowl games a lot).
