I know it's not Notre Dame week, but since I'm sure there are at least a couple of Notre Dame haters on this board, I thought this ESPN Article might provide some enjoyment.
Hard to believe how long it has actually been since they were truly relevant:

To be fair, they were relevant in 2012. And of course people can say "hurr durr fake girlfriend, pummeled by Bama" but they still made the Natty. That more relevance than most teams can claim in the past 5, 10, or even 20 years.

The article does reference that season as a "rare peak". I think that with all of the attention and special treatment the Golden Domers get, the bar of "relevance" is set a little higher than for most.
They were 21 point underdogs to Bama that year (and Bama covered easily). They might have been in the title game, but they were so obviously overmatched that it didn't really matter. They had lucky win after lucky win all year, maybe relevant to the casual fan but most big college fans and Vegas knew they weren't actually that relevant.
They were in the title game, that is relevance unquestionably. Put my team in that position 10/10.
Say what you want about Notre Dame and being overhyped most years, but it's comments like this that just absolutely reek of salt. Regardless of what happened in the championship itself, they were undefeated with a legitimate schedule of P5 opponents and one of the toughest SOS in the country. They were absolutely "relevant."

YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I HATE NOTRE DAME AND HOW HAPPY I AM TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THEM BE EMBARRASSED IN SOUTH BEND BY VT IN PERSON.
However, I personally want to wait till the week of to unleash my fury. In the mean time I am throughly enjoying seeing them lose to ACC teams.

I hope this forces Notre Dame to get off their high horse and join the ACC like everyone else in the conference, and share money. They are the most entitled school ever, and it's all based on ancient history and a couple of good seasons a few years ago. Other than that, they've been irrelevant for a long time.
The question is how long they can ride that wave as far as income. That's all they really care about when the difference between indy and conference status is that large.
Also, just realized there's a chance we won't be able to have a hatin' on Brian Kelly thread, which I believe would mean ND would be paying for 4 head coaches at once. That's gotta be some kind of record.
what? Are you sure this accurate? Kelly has been coaching for 6 years. I doubt any of the previous are still on contract, but I don't know any of the previous contract structures?

The only away game I am going to make this year is Notre Dame. I requested tickets back when everyone predicted we would get annihilated by ND. It is going to be so wonderful to watch the Hokies play ND for the first time every and crush them in South Bend.

If anyone wants to go to the ND game check out ChicagoHokies alumni site. I live in DC but am going with a group of about 15 to Chicago for the game. SouthBend is only a two hour drive and the Chicago Hokies have rented 6 (possibly more by now) charter buses and leaving Chicago at 8:30 AM for SouthBend and will be back in Chicago by 8:30 PM. Bus tickets include round trip transportation and snacks, non alcoholic beverages. I went to OSU in Columbus and this is another great opportunity to get a W in a cool away stadium. Tickets for the bus we $75 but may have gone up to $90. Last time I checked we had over 200 Hokies leaving from Chucago to take over SouthBend. Go Tech
Good news - 8 buses and over 400 people. Bad news we aren't adding another bus. Several people who have reached out have mentioned the Irish Express. And if ND keeps losing, you might have just as many Hokies as ND fans on that one. There is going to be lots of maroon and orange in South Bend!
You and any other Chicago Hokies need to set up a Q&A for the game. I know a lot of us going will be flying into and maybe staying in Chicago. Really wish we could get more buses going but I know it hasn't been easy finding buses.
I'm not going by bus but I am flying from Pittsburgh to Chicago and getting a rental car to drive to South Bend. I got an airbnb on Burdette St, which appears to be a block from campus. Arriving Friday night, leaving Sunday morning.
At first I was upset to see that we may be encountering Noter Dame at their lowest point in a while, I would much prefer to knock off a team riding high, what with their natural tendency towards high horses. But it is now a distinct possibility that they come into that game with 4 wins and bowl eligibility on the line. Now that would be a satisfying beat down in South Bend.

I don't see ND beating Miami this year. Then again, once we break the will of the Canes, they might just fade into oblivion.
