Thought for sure Ole Miss would be #25.
You think the AP voters would give them more respect for their 3 wins over Wofford, UGA and Memphis, And their 4 quality losses.
Penn state should be ranked. Houston should not. VT looks good at 25.
Penn State is 24 in the AP but collegefootball.ap.org doesn't have anyone listed at 24, they just skipped it.

My random thoughts:
I think Florida, Oklahoma, UNC and Houston are ranked too high. UNC has just as many losses as us, the same quality of wins, but lost the head-to-head in a blow out. Houston hasn't looked good in 3 weeks and shouldn't be ranked. Pretty cool to see Colorado improve from arguably one of the worst P5 teams to being tied for first in the Pac12 south.
Counterpoint to UNC being ranked higher than us...we lost to Syracuse.
Well that's clearly simply because they missed the real juggernaut in the Atlantic.

UNC lost to UGA... I know Syracuse isn't a very good team, but they are trending upward. In the same way that VT can lose a bad one, Syracuse has the ability to win a good one. I'm not getting the UNC love.

It's a damn joke that they only fell 4 spots. That team is good but the fact that they lost to an unranked team and only dropped 4 spots is ignorant
PSU isn't exactly like losing to cuse though. They are still in contention for the conference technically and OSU has good wins to back it up. I think anyone that actually watches games would agree OSU is one of the best 6 teams in the country.
Yes, people just hate top programs and flip out at perceived injustices and favoritism towards them.
They lost the game on a field goal block returned for a touchdown, a 10 point swing with 3 minutes remaining, and also got hosed on a no call PI on their last drive. They are definitely still one of the best in the country in an overall down year for college football.
PI no call doesn't affect my position on the matter. anOSU has gotten plenty of no calls on very similar plays that arguably lead to W's for them, so I'm not willing to concede that the no call caused them to lose.
With that said, I have no prob with how much they dropped. At this point, they are def top 7 (along with Bama, Mich, UW, Clemson, aTm and L'ville). The others below them need some W's like anOSU's W's at Wiscy and Oklahoma.
Similarly I don't have a prob with how much aTm dropped, nor how much UT dropped when they lost in OT at aTm.
Question for people who think they should have dropped lower: after the 6 that I listed: who do you put ahead of anOSU? Nebraska has close wins vs weak opponents. Wiscy lost at home to anOSU. Baylor hasn't played a team that's close to PSU's level. WVU's only "challenge" was a TCU team that isn't nearly as good as they've been in prior years. Then you get to FSU, BSU and others, so who should be ahead of anOSU?
The PI was a minor point, overall we are in agreement over their ranking.
I'd put the undefeated teams ahead of them. I think it's fair for the undefeated teams to get their shine in the media spotlight. If they lose out, they lose out. The best teams will win when it matters. If OSU is a top 4 team, they'll win out. If they aren't, they won't. The same could be said of WVU or Baylor, but those teams will have to win out AND jump a one loss OSU to get into the top 4. Dropping OSU behind those teams makes sense to me, because to me, with a loss, OSU should be hoping for a loss from one of those teams to get in. Those teams shouldn't be relying on style points to jump a team that's already lost.
RE: jumping osu, these polls also don't matter yet because they're not from the playoff committee, those are the ones to cause hand wringing over
You're correct, but I think it still matters for perception. Committee members may not rely on the AP top 25, but there's no way that they can watch all the teams in the country play every weekend- as such the committee is informed by rankings to some extent. Do they watch the top 5 teams, 10 teams, top 15, top 20? How many? We'll never know, but at some point, they have to be relying on rankings to inform their decision (even if it's as harmless deciding to watch #10 instead of #20).
They're ahead of a bunch of other one loss teams and have a couple of quality wins. There's nothing egregious about it whatsoever.
Penn State is a hell of a hard place to play away especially during the white out. If OSU would have lost at home and only dropped four spots I would have an issue with it but not for an away loss at PSU. OSU also dominated statistically.
I'm just going to try to keep not caring about polls until/unless we are legitimately in contention for a playoff spot
The good news here is that this season, we've played REALLY well when ranked #25.

Going forward can we be like everyone else and completely ignore the Coaches Poll? It's a bunch of guys who don't watch the games (because they literally can't) voting for whatever helps their team. No need to get panties bunched over it.
I love that we're back in the rankings but I'm just so ready to exorcise the Pitt/Heinz Field demons.
I don't think they have any real effect on the game, but I want the monkey off our backs as fans.
Cleveland won their first title in 50 years and the Cubs are going to their first World Series since 1945 and are 4 wins away from their first title since 1908.
2016 is clearly the year of broken curses, and since we lost the chance to break the Carrier Dome curse it's clear that we must break the Heinz Field curse.
