OT: World Series Thread

Y'all the Cubs are in the World Series.

Umm... I guess the Indians are in the World Series too. That's cool I guess.

Game 1 is tonight at 8pm on Fox. I feel confident in saying I won't be the only one watching so I thought I would start up a thread.

The more intelligent people here may be able to guess that I'm a Cubs fan. If you haven't followed the Cubs and watch the game tonight you'll get to hear a couple of things repeatedly, and I also added a couple more bits of information on the Cubs.

1. Schwarber is back after what should have been a season ending injury as he tore his ACL and LCL 4 games into the season when he and Dexter Fowler collided going after a flyball . Instead of having to wait till next year, Schwarber gets to play this year, IN THE WORLD SERIES. Instead of playing C/OF like he usually would he'll strictly be a DH or pinch hitter. Although, he is the reason the Cubs will technically have 4 catchers on their World Series roster.

2. Lester can't throw to first base. I don't understand it, Joe Buck doesn't either. However, Buck tries to use this to define Lester whereas I know that the arm of David Ross, the crazy good defense of the Cubs, and the fact that Lester limits how many runners he lets on more than makes up for the fact that he can't throw an accurate ball to first base.

3. You'll hear about some Cubs "curses". I side with Joe Maddon's stance on the matter: "I do vibrate on a different frequency, man. I don't understand those kinds of concepts."

4. The Cubs haven't won the World Series since 1908. They haven't appeared in the World Series since 1945 when they lost to the Tigers. Not a Cubs fact, but I'm sure you'll also hear about the Indians not winning a World Series since 1948.

5. Kris Bryant should be the 3rd player in MLB history to win Rookie of the Year, and then MVP in consecutive seasons. Also, Antony Rizzo put up somewhat similar stats and will get some MVP votes.

6. Javier Baez has been exceptionally good in the post season. I've never seen someone with hand-eye coordination that's as good as Javier Baez so he tends to make spectacular plays. I'd show you one, but I think this is better.

7. Jason Heyward isn't good at the plate. I don't expect that to change, he is one of the best defenders in the league though which isn't always mentioned.

8. Joe Maddon is a dude.

9. David Ross is retiring at the end of the season. He came to Chicago as Lester's personally catcher with below average stats at the plate. I initially hated that we got him because of that. He's now one of my favorite Cubs. Similar to Sam Rogers he is very much a leader, provides energy to the team, and is clearly a favorite in the clubhouse. He also seems to have a special career. For example, his first home run was off of former Cubs first baseman Mark Grace. Grace was never converted to be a pitcher. He also has a really strong arm which he uses a fair amount to help Lester get out of trouble.

10. Jarrett Boykin wears XXXL gloves, look at how big his gloves are. LOOK AT THE GLOVES!!!

Obviously being in the World Series I thought of some of the Cubs greats that won't get to share the World Series experience with us. I can't imagine how happy people like Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, or Harry Caray would be right now.

I'm only a second generation Cubs fan in my and my Dad, Bro, and friends are still very much around so I get to share this with them, even if just over the phone. Yet there are people like Dorothy Farrell who have lost friends and family who also Cubs fans and I'm sure she'd give up just about anything to share it with them.

This one is for all the Cubs fans that couldn't make it through 2016.

I just don't know about Schwarber going from the Arizona Fall League to the frickin World Series. I can't imagine what a major league slider looks like after five months away.

Also, can we just let the DH bat for Heyward and take our chances with the pitcher at the plate?

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Coghlan is starting over Heyward which isn't a huge surprise, but Schwarber is batting 5th. That's insane.

If we can get a win against Kluber that'd be huge for the series. As far as I can tell the rest of their starting pitching staff isn't as good when they go deeper into the rotation in comparison to the Cubs. Of course we'll have to deal with Andrew Miller in relief, that dude has been a stud.

Harry Caray's legacy is so strange. If anyone else were impersonated like he is it would seem so insulting. Yet I don't know anyone but Harry who would say "as sure as God made green apples, the Cubs are gonna go to the World Series." His use of the english language was strange, fantastic, and oddly incredibly fun and interesting to listen to.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Do you know if he ever saw/responded to these skits before he passed away? I'm not sure how long Ferrell had been doing it before then, if at all.

I'm not sure if Harry ever saw what Will Ferrell did or not, but as far as I can tell the first Harry Caray SNL skit aired a year before he died.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

I'm rooting against the Cubs for their own good. They are better received as the loveable losers. As a Red Sox fan, I can tell you, the switch from loveable underdogs to hated power took about 10 days. If the Cubs want to be loathed by Thanksgiving, they should win the WS.

It's just a lot more fun for this Cubs Might Win The World Series! thing to carry on for a few more years while they actually have a good team.

I have a weird feeling that Cubs fans don't care if them winning a WS means fewer non-Cubs fans like their organization

No. I'm tired of the "when was the last time the Cubs won the World Series" BS anytime I want to talk about the Cubs. I love my team and they deserve to win the World Series, I don't care if that makes us less of a fan favorite. In addition the fact that we're not from Boston will help us not be as hated if we win. You've completely discounted that fact.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

1908

Theo's from Boston, people like him.

Technically he's from New York. Also, Theo isn't a franchise like Patriots or Red Sox. Also Boston sort of has Boston College. That's no good.

In addition the fact that we're not from Boston will help us not be as hated if we win. You've completely discounted that fact.

Yeah, because people love the Blackhawks and their fans.....

Please, I like the Cubs, I love Wrigley, and I am pulling for you all in this series. Should you win it all, don't turn into an arrogant prick.

I've been called a lot of things, not all of them positive, but never arrogant. More of a comment of the in your face Boston/North Eastern attitude. I've never heard the equivalent of Masshole for someone from Chicago that wasn't in politics.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Yeah, Cubs fans deserve a title. Now, that's not to say that Indians fans don't, but its just a whole different world for the Cubs. That fanbase has been crapped on for decades, and they just need it. Yes, its been a while for the Indians, but we crapped on Cleveland for being Cleveland, and they broke that curse this spring with the Cavs. They already have their championship euphoria. The Cubbies deserve to have their day, much like the Red Sox did in 2004, the Phillies did in 2008, and Cleveland did this year.

Plus, I've only been to one MLB stadium - Wrigley, and it might be one of my favorite places in the US. Wrigleyville alone is worth the trip. I just regret that there's no way for me to make it up there this week, because that's going to be incredible over this series, and should they win.... man...

Yes, its been a while for the Indians, but we crapped on Cleveland for being Cleveland, and they broke that curse this spring with the Cavs

Even if it's not safe to say most Indians fans are Cavs fans, it's probably safe to say they're mostly also anOSU fans. So they've experienced more than their fair share of success, and personally, I say they need to stay in their rightful place with the Browns and quit with this whole winning thing

@AMB4VT

As a 3rd generation Cleveland sports fan it would be cool to see them see their first World Series since 1948. Experts have been wrong with their Indians predictions all year. No one thought they would make the playoffs no one thought they would beat Boston or Toronto. Time to prove the experts wrong again indians win in 7 games.

D.P. the Hokie fan. Once a Hokie always a Hokie

I'm going to have to disagree with that last sentence. Cool to see a Cleveland fan on here though. While not exactly the same, we've both definitely gone through some sports suffering. Any insight in to the Indians? I actually saw them earlier this year on May 25th when they were playing at the Cell. They didn't look bad, but they also didn't look World Series bounds. I'm sure a lot has changed since then.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Yeah a lot has changed. They let backup center fielder Tyler Naquin and backup 3rd baseman Joe Ramrez become starters which helped a lot. Best way to beat the indians is hit the ball past the Indians infielders. Watchout for Indians shortstop Fransico Lindor he is a great defensive player he is gonna win lots of gold glove awards through his career only thing Lindor sucks at is hitting home runs. Kenny Lofton who is from East Chicago is throwing out the first pitch tonight. Lofton was one of the best Indians during the 90's.

D.P. the Hokie fan. Once a Hokie always a Hokie

Oh cool, Kenny Lofton was a Cub for half a season. We got him in the same trade from Pittsburgh that got us Aramis Ramirez. Both played a part in our NLCS run in 2003. I remember being disappointed that he didn't come back.

If hitting the ball out of the infield will win us games against the Indians this could be a sweep. A lot of power on the roster and our only player that consistently hits grounders has been benched (Heyward). Looking forward to a good series regardless of the outcome.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Go Tribe!

The ultimate irony would be if Cleveland went ahead 3-1 in the series but the Cubs came back to win it.

"Exit light..."

I'm not sure I'd be alive to see the Cubs win in that scenario. How many heart attacks can one person handle?

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

You're a Hokies fan. You've been prepping for this your whole life.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Lol. This is the exact thing I told my wife while watching the game.

So, what's the answer? How many heart attacks?

Glad you're still in the land of the living.

"Exit light..."

All of them.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

As it turns out, it's not heart attacks, more of a fetal position rocking back and forth with a feeling like Andre the Giant the giant punched you in the gut. Then, once Rizzo caught the throw from Bryant, just pure excitement for a little over a minute. Followed by sort of this blank feeling for like 5-10 minutes. After that, I cried for a minute once all the feelings came back all at once. The rest of the night felt like me trying to calm down from that. I didn't get to sleep till a bit after 4 and woke up a bit before 9. I feel surprisingly okay. I usually feel super grumpy/crappy if I don't get at least 6 hours of sleep on special occasion or 7.5-8 consistently. No one tells you what an emotional marathon the World Series is, but maybe winning a World Series has ever meant quite do much.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Ah, sports.

Congrats to all the Cubs fans. I have no allegiance to either the Cubs or Indians, but that was a heck of a game and I did find myself rooting for the Cubs ever so slightly.

"Exit light..."

I do feel a bit bad for the Indians. It's not like the Cubs were going up against the big bad Yankees. It was just 2 organizations, who really wanted to win one for their fans, going at it. Although, that's probably also why game 7 was so good.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Yeah, before the game I figured that either way, I was going to watch a very long World Series drought end. That alone was enough reason to watch. Add in the fact that the longest such stretch was in play, and it was a no-brainer to have to tune in.

"Exit light..."

BOOM.

"Exit light..."

Well played sir.

Go Tribe!

I forgot the Cubs had Chapman (really, who watches the NL?). Another reason to root for the Titos. Fuck Chapman.

Big strike zone so far. That's not great, but okay as long as Lester gets the same calls.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Assuming Lester can find the strike zone. Really didn't he'd look so nervous since he's had World Series experience.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

The Cubs don't have a chance if Kluber continues to pitch like this. 8 Ks in 3 innings is absolutely ridiculous.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

How can you not have 8 Ks in 3 innings with a strike zone like that? Good lord. If the pitcher didn't balk it was called a strike.

Yeah, the left side of the plate (from the pitcher's perspective) seemed to extend 3-4 inches beyond the plate. Yet Klubers's stuff was dirty and Lester had one of his worst outings of the year. In the end, the statistics show that. I need my Cubs to sweep now though because Joe West will be behind the plate for game 6. That can't happen. I have my doubts about the umpires' union for using this crew in the World Series. I really hope the umps don't have a role in the outcome of this series. Luckily they haven't so far despite their best efforts.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Kluber was phenomenal and the Cubs were unable to get a base hit with runners on. Cleveland takes game 1 6-0.

Also take note that first pitch for game 2 has been moved up an hour to 7pm.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Was a fun game to watch. At times it was a nailbiter when the Cubs had runners on base, but they couldn't convert them into runs. Cleveland's pitching was phenomenal.

For the first time, the Cubs are winning in the World Series after the color barrier had been broken

That Schwarber RBI was huge. Lot of momentum for the Cubs all of the sudden.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

He's a monster, I still can't wrap my head around the fact that he tore his ACL just 6 months ago.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I can't either. What's even more crazy is that I'll be shocked if he doesn't hit at least one bomb before this series is over. His swing looks like it did last year.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Cubs fan here. Agree with your sentiment on Schwarber hitting a homer here sometime during the series. I so thought his double last night was gone, but he's been Mr. big time in tonight's game!

Though, I am getting sick of leaving the bases loaded without getting any runs. Another couple runs would have me feeling a little better.

I'd be more upset about leaving runners on if we didn't have a 4 run lead. Obviously, I wouldn't mind a few more insurance runs though either.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Way to go Montgomery!! Was getting nervous there. Two more to go and let's hope we beat the rain.

Indians can't seem to get on base before 2 outs. This game has been all Cubs; Trevor needs his drone license revoked. Cubs pitching is amazing.

Umpire is calling a textbook strike zone but what's with the timeouts in the middle of the wind-ups?

I feel like I just saw a unicorn as the Cubs just won a World Series game. Final score is 5-1, series is tied at 1 a piece. The Cubs bats, including Schwarber's, have come alive. Arrieta overcame some early struggles and no hit the Indians for at least 5 innings. Next game is Friday night at 8.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Arrieta hasn't had his command all year. Couple that with arguably the best pitches in the game you get an above average pitcher (see his 3.10 ERA)

For those that are not as up to date with the Cubs... the reasons Arrieta went out before Kyle Hendricks is that Arrieta had more rest/we wanted to give Kyle more rest from Game 6 NLCS and the Kyle Hendricks has been absolutely lights out at home all year

Kyle Schwarber also suffered an injury on April 7th. He had 0 hits coming into the post season and yet he's 3-7 with 2 RBIs and 2BB which is unreal

Keep calm, Gobble on

Arrieta seemed to have his command the beginning of the year but lost it fairly early on. Don't forget that he did throw the first no-hitter of the year.

In a way I wish we could switch Hendricks and Lackey so we could have a Kluber vs Hendricks matchup in game 4. Obviously it ultimately makes more sense to use him in game 3 so be can be on 5 days rest of the series goes 7.

As far as Schwarber goes, the man has made himself a Cubs legend in only 2 seasons. Last year he set the franchise record for post season home runs in just 2 series, and this year he comes back from tearing his ACL and LCL to find himself in the World Series, gets his first hit of the season in game 1, and then his first RBI of the session turns out to be the game winning hit in game 2. Oh, and he has the highest postseason OPS of any player ever. He's been better at the plate than Babe Ruth in the postseason.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Between Pitt not happening last night and the first World Series game at Wrigley in 71 years tonight, I'm not so sure how I'm gonna hold up.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

It's so strange only seeing one game up on the scoreboard. I have a good feeling about tonight with Hendricks on the mound even if he did give up two hits in the first. As I said a few days ago on the thread, I really want the Cubs to sweep at home so we don't have to deal with Joe West behind the plate during game 6 and also because it would be insane if the Cubs could win the World Series in Wrigley. At the moment I'm more worried about game 4, but that will probably change as game 3 progresses.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Hendricks's stuff is filthy tonight, but we gotta take advantage of the wind actually blowing out in late October.

As a Phillies fan, I have nothing to look forward to for at least another 5-10 years. And at the start of this series I thought I didn't care who would win.

But I thought wrong. Go Cubs. Get those bats out of their collective funk. I think they do a bit better their second time against Kluber

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

As a Mets fan, gonna have to disagree. The Phillies farm system is starting to stock up plus Herrera and Franco aren't anywhere close to hitting their primes yet and are already really good players. I say the Phillies compete for the division title in 2-3 years.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Well between this and RAJ not running the team anymore, you might be onto something. I'm just trying to keep my hopes in check, because rooting for all 4 Philly teams is a sometimes brutal, most times futile exercise.

Also happy that Amaro Jr. isn't GM anymore to empty out our farm system for has been free agents that did nothing in Philly and that the new GM is trying to build the team for the future by making the farm system better. I have the same feeling. This postseason has been an emotional marathon. Regardless of the outcome, I will feel some level of relief. That being said, we've gone through this much, let's just win the whole damn thing!

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

I've been watching the games on a DVR delay the past 3 nights and I am now caught up to the live feed. Feeling the same way as you as I can't fast forward through the Indians batting while hoping, wishing, and praying I don't see any runs. Cool video clip of Rizzo talking to Ross about being all kinds of emotional and then knocking a double to scratch another run. GO CUBS GO!!

I'd like to give a huge shout out to Kluber. He was practically unhittable the first 2 times the Cubs faced him. In the end Cleveland asked for too much from him physically.

3 games in 9 days is too much for a pitcher considering the torque modern day pitchers put on their arms. The Cubs will be the argument for bringing 4 starters to LCS and World Series rosters for at least the near future at a minimum.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

I was hoping they'd beat up on Kluber early to keep Miller and Allen from shutting them down. A lot of folks were chalking Lackey up as a loss given he was facing Kluber anyways. Joe was definitely comfortable sacrificing a possible win in order to have three rested starters giving him a fighter's chance in the next three games. Still a LONG ways to go in this one, so I'm definitely not counting any eggs before they hatch.

Joe Maddon might have just lost the Cubs the series with the pull off Hendricks

Dumb... Just dumb

My whole family is mad at me for the rant I just went on about that decision.

If the Cubs lose Maddon should be fired. Completely fucking retarded decision to bring in Lester.

Honestly, that was epically stupid even if they win. The bats couldn't touch Hendricks and he just blindly stuck to the script. That curve was filthy tonight, and now it's gone. They might have enough of a cushion it might not matter, but that was pointless. Sometimes you just have to get out of your own way and let the team play.

Yeah terrible call

Same thing happened to get Bryant on base the top half of the inning... Evened out a bit

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Cubs benefitted the inning prior but don't disagree with the sentiment. I caught some of a Bryant Gumble Real Sports talking about umpires and how inconsistent they can be. They found that umps averaged close to the correct call about 88% of the time but that percentage really dropped on the balls within an inch of the strike zone. Had me thinking that using the PitchFx system should definitely be considered.

Of course the old man gets one back!

The biggest issue is that it's inconsistent. The strike zone is the most subjective thing in professional sports. You will never get perfect agreement with a computerized pitch tracker, and the size of the strike zone literally changes with each batter. But the shape of the zone has to stay consistent. If a corner isn't there in a game, that's fine so long as both pitchers know it's never there. But these missed calls are all over the zone.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

That kind of feels like nitpicking. The umps haven't been perfect tonight but I've seen worse in the regular season. As a baseball fan I care if strike calls are more precise and consistent than accurate. The dynamic rules are part of what makes baseball the sport it is.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

Some of the strikes/balls were WAY off and ridiculous.

They called a strike (# 3) against Napoli that was at least six inches off the base. He sort of stood there in disbelief for a moment. I don't know how you'd fix the way they call balls and strikes without taking some of the personality out of the game.

That said, at least they have replays and the ability to challenge calls.

Oh my... That's gotta be crushing for Chicago

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

The home run couldn't have been against a nicer guy too... Chapman is why Im for Cleveland

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

I've never ever seen a manager fuck up a bullpen like Maddon has done this series... Not sure the Cubs have any more ammo left

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

This is bullshit...

How the hell does he give up three with two outs?

I texted my Dad this before he gave up the first run

Chapman looks a bit tired. His velocity is 3-4 mph slower than usual and his command isn't quite as sharp. Hope he can find a way to get through this.

In a similar fashion to how the Indians overworked Kluber, Joe overused Chapman.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

All the Cubs are used to Kluber; it looked like the Indians were pretty familiar with Chapman. Send in a pinch hitter (Gomes) and he's just swinging for dear life.

Maddon has managed the pitching god awful this series, and it may really bite them now.

With that said, what a great postseason this has been and ending in an all timer right now.

Agree. Shitty decision after shitty decision.

It's raining. Carolina football fans are about to discount the win of either team here.

Fire Whit.

And Pat Narduzzi thought Rajai Davis pushed off before that homer.

"Exit light..."

David Cutliffe thought it was a nice swing, even though he's a Cubs fan.

Fuck Matt Ryan

If Cleveland is about to get the rain that I got earlier NE Indiana this game might not finish till 4am or till tomorrow night if they go the smarter route.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

That matrix dodge on the throw to 2nd though.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Man Baez botched that one

That had to come from Maddon. Terrible call. All he had to do was put the ball in play and Heyward scores.

I don't know about the Cubs and Tribe fans here, but I am enjoying the fugg out of this game right now. I'm so glad I kept watching after 5-1

It's a great game and I'd like to see the cubs win but out after the delay heading into the 10th.

This is hell. Being stuck tied in extra innings in game 7 of the World Series. I'm legitimately nauseous.

Has anyone ever seen a better game in any sport? Even if the Indians find a way to come back this one will be talked about for a long time.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

This is the best sporting event I believe I have ever watched. I've seen every pitch of the series and it's been awesome fun. You can't beat this game 7.

Zobrist is an f'ing badass.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

He got the MVP AND a new camaro to go with the win.

Well the Cubs have 3 outs to get with a 2 run cushion in the 10th inning of Game 7 of the World Series after the Indians hit a 2 out 2 run home run in the 8th with 2 strikes...

If this isn't an all time epic game, I don't know what is

IF HE CAN PULL OFF THIS SAVE

The way this game has gone you knew the Indians were gonna get a man on base and he came around to score this is ridiculous

Coach Fuente and Coach Foster...because you're doubly f***ed

I can't...

Come on Cubbies. We're one out away. Throw strikes and make them beat you.

Bonus tip: Don't actually let them beat you.

Congratz Cubs

Edit: As a White Sox fan hating the Cubs I can't even be mad great game, great win for the Cubbies. Again Congratulations, history was just made.

YOU CAN KEEP THIS BAD BOY FLYING TILL NEXT APRIL!!! WE'RE WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!!!!!!!

Congrats Illinois Hokie and all the other Cubs fans out there... Been a veeeeeeeeery long time and they earned it. Congrats!

Hell yeah!! Go Cubs!!!!

We live in a world where the Cubs are World Series champions!

As a Phillies diehard, I tip my hat to them

Instant classic for sure. That was amazing.

How many people have already photoshopped the pic from Back to the Future to show today's date on the Sports Almanac?

More posts on Facebook about the Cubs winning the World Series than UVA had fans at their spring festival!

You win! Nice!

3-1 series lead... Yeah remember how Cleveland ripped the Warriors for that?

Oops

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Cleveland sure gave them a run for the money in game 7, though.

Great win by the Cubs, truly historic. I bet Chicago will still be partying when we go for the ND game. Surprised the Cubs organization didn't open up Wrigley for a watch party. My brother in law lives in Chicago and says the partying, fireworks, street party and yes gunfire are just nonstop right now.

I sure enjoyed this series.

Game 7, in particular, was a lot of fun to watch. Couldn't believe Cleveland came back to tie it. I was pulling for Cleveland, but I can appreciate the history and tradition of the Cubs.

I don't remember a series I found as riveting as this one.

Finally....surprised this gif hasn't been used yet

I may be suffering at work this morning, but wow was that game worth it. I'm not a huge baseball fan or Cubs or Indians, but that game kept me glued to my seat as we were all watching history. That was one of the best atmospheres in sports and I will never forget this game. I was so focused on the game that I couldn't even cook dinner. I had to order food at 11:30 pm (sorry delivery guy, I know you guys were closing but I was drunk and very hungry. You did get a nice tip for your efforts of driving 4 blocks to give me food).

Also, in the last 12 years we have seen the 3 longest World Series droughts end.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

I was just thinking about that this morning...

Since the end of the 2003 season the following has happened:
Red Sox win the World Series (86 year drought)
White Sox win the World Series (87 year drought)
Phillies win the World Series (28 year drought in all sports in Philly)
Giants win the World Series (55 year drought)
Royals win the World Series (30 year drought in all sports in KC)
Cubs win the World Series (108 year drought)

That's a lot, a lot of years of angst that has been rewarded over the past 13 years. And then consider that in that same time period the Dodgers and Braves haven't even played for one and the Yankees have only made it once, a number matched by the likes of the Astros, Mets, Rockies and Rays... Baseball has been turned completely on its head since the turn of the century, and really, its a better sport for it.

WORLD CHAMPS!

Also this..

Chicago Cubs prediction

He's no good to me dead.

Probably seemed so far-fetched and so far into the future at the time that nobody would or hold him to it...

And I was about to say that Back to the Future was prophetic by only being a year off! That is nuts.

Parks and Recreation also predicted it accurately, for 2016.

In the final season, in spring of 2017, they're relishing the Cubs World Series victory.

I was a little surprised how little official stuff was done yesterday/last night by Cubs organization and the city. I know police and fire were busy as crap last night.

experiencing the fandom there in Wrigleyville -when they SUCKED... I'm surprised, watching the news today, that Chicago hasn't burned down... and yet no one had/has stopped partying.

"...sticks and stones may break my bones but I'm gonna kick you repeatedly in the balls Gardoki!"

My manager is from Chicago and is a huge Cubs fan, and I'm pretty sure I have a performance review today. I think I'm gettin a raise.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Well played.

Congrats to the Cubs & fans on breaking the curse. It's been a long century coming. Indians, keep at it. Same for Tigers fans.

That game gave me no less than 15 heart attacks.
Needless to say I'm as happy as I am hungover

Someday we'll go all the way

To be fair your comment also applies to 99% of youtube as well.

You're good, I'm so used to seeing comments like that. I just thought it was an awesome article. Love seeing the effects of sports outside of the lines.

Sorry guys, I'm the one cutting onions

Ryne Dee Sandberg was my idol. I got pissed in '84, upset in '89, clinically depressed in '03 and have been intermittently whimpering since 0100 this morning. I haven't slept, am a little hungover and showed up to work with my baseball cap and jersey as my "professional attire" for the day (tie is expected, so I've violated my contract).

And I am reediculously happy today. My wife's even hotter, my kids are now amazing and I think I've grown 2" since yesterday (ahem)... life is good.

"...sticks and stones may break my bones but I'm gonna kick you repeatedly in the balls Gardoki!"

I'm sitting in my office wearing my Cubs hat. Didn't opt for my Sandberg away jersey. My boss is awesome but she really cares about how we present ourselves.

Did you not want to dress like a winner? I've been told to dress for the job I want, not the one I am interviewing for or have. Definitely need to wear a Beaz jersey to my next interview.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

I'm rocking my cubs hat here at work as well. I've also purchased my Cubs hat with the World Series Champions patch on the side! Can't wait to rock it out at my father-in-law's house. He's not a Cleveland fan but was pulling for them to beat the Cubs. At least we agree on the Hokies and our disdain for all things LOLUVA!
