That picture is great for all the right reasons. But is anyone else feeling a little inadequate when they notice it looks like Cody has hands that could palm a beach ball?
I mean, it could be forced perspective, but those hams look like they belong at the end of Andre the Giant's arms.

I was hoping for a 3:30 game because I'll be dragging after Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but I guess a noon game will give more time for celebrating a win and a trip to Orlando afterwards. Plus, my best friend is a Tennessee fan, and she's coming to the game, so it should be fun!

#Hokies open as a 20-point favorite against UVa next week, which seems absurdly high, in my opinion.β Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) November 20, 2016
For a reference point on that line, the #Hokies' last four wins against UVa have been by a combined 20 points.β Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) November 20, 2016
Setting the line at 3 TD, in a rivalry game, with UVA out to deny us the Coastal, VT banged up? Bold strategy, Cotton. Gonna see a lot of bets on the Hoos, I imagine.

Not surprising. Computers have it about -18 on a neutral field and contrary to popular belief "Vegas" mostly uses the computers to set the opening lines and then follows the collective wisdom to balance the bets.
It will be interesting to see if the market moves the line.
I know I wouldn't touch -20 in a late season rivalry game like this. But I also wouldn't be shocked if VT steamrolls UVA.

I could see this game going either way honestly. It wouldn't surprise me to beat UVA just like we beat BC and it wouldn't surprise me to see a much closer than I'd like kind of game. VT is a Jekyll and Hyde kind of team and we might see both of those teams on Saturday.

We are an extended family with many favorite college football teams. And, we'll all be together Sat after Thanksgiving. Well, the stars have aligned perfectly. VT-UVA at 12:00, Bama-Aub at 3:30 (for the wife, a Bama fan) and UT-Vandy at 6:30 (for my mom and stepdad, who live in Knoxville). No overlapping games. It's a Thanksgiving miracle!!
Go Hokies!!

Once again, the Hokie Nation fans get screwed by ESPN with a noon start for our biggest rivalry game. The team gets screwed too from a tv exposure perspective with ESPN/ABC putting OSU-MICH on at the same time. Thanks for nothing ESPN.

Huh. Maybe 3:30 games get less ratings than noon games since there is more competition at 3:30?
I would like to see it broken down at some point, something like:
I don't know why, but it does seem that the more attactive ACC and B10 games are on at noon on ESPN2 than at 3:30. Maybe lessening competition with the traditional ABC/ESPN 3:30 mirror games?

I've been wondering something like that for a while. I get the hierarchy of timeslots on a single network (primetime is best, 3:30 is second best, noon is the dumping ground), and I get the hierarchy of channels (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS). But I can't figure out the combo. For example, does the Mouse view a noon game on ABC as more prestigious than a 3:30 game on ESPNU?

I was hoping to do what I did yesterday which was watch Tottenham at the pub then walk to a tech bar after. It was perfect. I get so into these games that it'll be tough to pay attention to both. I guess I'll have to try, though.

Unrelated but I cannot stand soccer grammar. Chelsea vs. Tottenham is at 12:30. Or, the USMNT has been struggling. We don't say, "Virginia Tech have one more regular season game."
It's still English but for some reason when talking about soccer, we abandon everything we know about subject-verb agreement.

Aside from it being a British thing, I think the reason is that they don't really have mascots over there. Tottenham ironically are one of the only teams with a mascot (spurs/hotspurs) that people use. Chelsea are the Blues, United are the Red Devils, Liverpool are the Reds, but virtually no one refers to them that way like they might for an American proessional sports team. For instance, if you wrote it out with mascots included you would say "Tottenham Hostpurs (or just Spurs) are playing at 12:30." But since they don't say the mascots normally, it just becomes "Tottenham are playing at 12:30."
Yeahhh it's weird

For me, glad it's a nooner. I work all weekend, so I will be sick Saturday. I can get home and get in bed at a decent time before the Sunday morning alarm goes off.

The Hokies have been testing my cardiac health all season, I'm ready for a blowout and a river of Hoo tears by halftime. Surely that's not too much to ask?

Hopefully, when we kicked out of neutral before the half will continue into the next game. Would love to see a hot start again, those are much less stressful to watch. I would very much like us firing on all cylinders this week and hopefully in Orlando as well.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I can't say this emphatically enough. Run Peoples right up Tellers ass and take the 3 yards. I think we will have a much better success rate at 3rd and 4. This offense is built for this kind of conversions. It is not built for 3 rd and 9 or 10.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm really hoping for a repeat performance from either the BC, ECU or UNC games, our last three wins have all come by 3 points for crying out loud. I think UVA really is going to bring it though, this is pretty much their bowl game, and I'm sure they'd like nothing else than to spoil our chances to go to the ACCCG. So I think this one's going to be close, but if we have a hot start I don't see us losing.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm ok with the nooner... At least we won't miss kickoff because the early games are running late, which has happened a frustratingly high number of times this season here in Raleigh. Fucking NC State.... Seriously, we didn't get to watch any of the ND game until it was 10-0 because they had to show all the postgame interviews on fucking Raycom after Miami beat NCSU before flipping it over.

I wish I could find a place in central time zone on the ocean. Loved visiting my in laws when they lived in Iowa. Earlier football, earlier news, earlier shows.

I know the Gulf isn't technically an ocean, but everywhere on the coast from the Apalachicola River in Florida (including Pensacola and Panama City Beach) to the Mexico border in Texas is central time, so that's a little bit warmer of an alternative.

Speaking as a person married to someone who lived and worked in Mississippi halfway between Gulfport and Slidell, LA, for three years, New Orleans has its merits. I certainly wouldn't live in the city for many reasons, and we wouldn't move down there anyway because we both abhor their hot and sticky climate, but she did enjoy the times she made the short drive into the city.

Nothing washes down the Thanksgiving Turkey quite like sweet, fresh-beaten Hoo Tears. Mmmmmm!
That picture is great for all the right reasons. But is anyone else feeling a little inadequate when they notice it looks like Cody has hands that could palm a beach ball?

Andre the Giant

And since they were always going on about Boykin's hands, I'm guessing it's forced perspective.
Yeah, he had big hands. But did you know Jarett Boykin wore size triple XL gloves??
or that Sam rogers was a walk-on?
or that Bucky Hodges is 6'7?
Mike London used to be a cop!
Did you know Tim Settle went to the same HS as somebody else?
Ricky Walker? Crap, no, I forget where he went to HS
Wait, did Ricky Walker go to the same high school as Allen Iverson?
No I think he went to the same high school as Mark in Winchester.
I think his name was Kevin
Cody Grimm looks like he went to Durmstrang.
Anybody notice that we've had quite a few 3:30 kickoffs this season, and now the hoos be dragging us down with a nooner?
It's the ghost of Jim Weaver. We should win this one in his honor.
We lost to Syracuse at 3:45 on ESPNU and GT at 3:30 also on the U. Noon might not be so bad
Welp. Work until 6 that morning. Should get no sleep what so ever and then start drinking heavily, no way this goes bad.
Thought we'd end up with the 7pm-ish game (not usually a great matchup). I can jive with a nooner. Gives me the rest of the day to enjoy the win.
Was really hoping to watch osu vs michigan, kinda sucks to be at the same time
Just like last year
Sigh. 3:30 would have been much better. Time to get the game, time drink bourbon, watch the sun set over the west stands of Lane... But I'll be there.

No doubt. I'd put money on that if I were a gambling man.
Now, if UVA were ranked?
I'd put in a bet on 38-0.
Yeah, given VT's season, 20 points is too high.
Then again, if VT can avoid the standard 14 point giveaway, I can save on antacids.
If the offense comes out and does even the slightest bit better than yesterday's first quarter then we can definitely cover that.
I don't know, since the last four wins were only by a combined 20 points, I think LOLuva is long overdue for another 38-0 style ass whooping.
Not surprising. Computers have it about -18 on a neutral field and contrary to popular belief "Vegas" mostly uses the computers to set the opening lines and then follows the collective wisdom to balance the bets.

It's down to -17.5.

We didn't get screwed by ESPN, we got screwed by UVA
ESPN owes VT nothing. Blame UVA for being a dumpster fire.
Wait how in the hell did Duke Miami get the 3:30 slot?
Is it on espnu? Anything on U gets less ratings than the lowest rated slot on espn2.
Nope same channel, ESPN2.
Huh. Maybe 3:30 games get less ratings than noon games since there is more competition at 3:30?
I would like to see it broken down at some point, something like:
1. ABC, 8pm
2. ESPN, 7:00
3. ABC, 3:30
4. ABC, noon
5. ESPN, 3:30
6. ESPN, noon
7. ESPN2, 7:00
8. ESPN 2, noon?
9. ESPN 2, 3:30
10. ESPNU, 3:30
11. ESPNU, noon
12. ACC Network, noon-thirty
I don't know why, but it does seem that the more attactive ACC and B10 games are on at noon on ESPN2 than at 3:30. Maybe lessening competition with the traditional ABC/ESPN 3:30 mirror games?

ESPNU has to be off the charts bad, still too many people don't get it (or can't find it, like my poor remote-challenged father).
Conversely, ABC has to be great no matter the slot because even my dad can find that.
I'll bet the Ohio State and Michigan folks are pissed that nobody is going to be watching their game.
Ugghhh... Chelsea vs. Tottenham are at 12:30. My two favorite teams have big rivalry games at the same time. This blows.
I'd say if you have a tv with cable and a laptop, you're golden. You are allowed to watch two things at once haha
I was hoping to do what I did yesterday which was watch Tottenham at the pub then walk to a tech bar after. It was perfect. I get so into these games that it'll be tough to pay attention to both. I guess I'll have to try, though.

It's a freaking British thing.
FTFY

same time as UNC/NCSU -- I prefer it that way. I'm guessing Fuente and Fedora do too. Keeps the players focused on their game.
Edit: Misread the date. UNC/NCSU is 24 hours before VT. Regardless of the UNC outcome, I hope VT players come out to win.
... check the date of that game.
Thanks. Calendars are hard.
Little known fact: Chazz is actually a Mayan and therefore has to guess the date since...well, yknow the world kept going after 2012
For me, glad it's a nooner. I work all weekend, so I will be sick Saturday. I can get home and get in bed at a decent time before the Sunday morning alarm goes off.
Well....looks like I'm going to have to start drinking at 8am instead of 11 since the game's a nooner.
Just more time to celebrate after in the parking lots!!!!
The season is almost over :'(
I'm so sad
This guy gets it.

I don't know who you get TV from, but on TWC they showed our game on 1255 while Miami-NCSt was still going on.
The Alumni bar gets their feed from DirecTV... We were fubar until the Raycom broadcast ended
A nooner is fine but i'd like to see the 3:30 games and if they include possible conference championship teams or not
Worst thing about living on the west coast is that noon kickoffs are actually 9 AM kickoffs for us......
Umm why is that bad? Morning football!!
yea, but, the whole waking up before 9 on a Saturday is what I have an issue with. Exactly why I avoided 8 ams like the plague....
I wish I could find a place in central time zone on the ocean. Loved visiting my in laws when they lived in Iowa. Earlier football, earlier news, earlier shows.
northern manitoba, eh?
I hear that it's down right balmy, there, at this time of year.
I know the Gulf isn't technically an ocean, but everywhere on the coast from the Apalachicola River in Florida (including Pensacola and Panama City Beach) to the Mexico border in Texas is central time, so that's a little bit warmer of an alternative.
It is but wife wants to move back to a larger metro close to the water. With lots of shopping etc
Houston could fill that role, and New Orleans can be pretty fun. Just spitballing here.
Houston is on the short list. New Orleans is a hell no. After working with some of NOPD and NOFD.
I'm with you. NOLA is a shit hole with history.
Speaking as a person married to someone who lived and worked in Mississippi halfway between Gulfport and Slidell, LA, for three years, New Orleans has its merits.
