ACC Championship Game attendence

I know that there were discussions about how full the stadium is going to be, and I found this today.

Not sure with how full it'll actually be, but it doesn't sound like it'll be actual fans.

Not going to get into politics, but ACC messed up moving this game to Orlando. It would be sold out if it was in Charlotte.

I'm sure tons of people would've protested them having it in Charlotte....

I'm protesting the move. In fact, I'm going to boycott the ACC game because it's being held in Orlando instead of Charlotte. Well, you know, attending the game. I'm still gonna watch it from the comfort of my living room. Let's not get crazy here.

I have decided to boycott sobriety Saturday night.

...I'll be watching on the watchESPN app from my phone at my wife's holiday party..

So...me too

Ditto (and not sure I'll even be that fortunate).

I'm skipping my holiday party. I'm also single, so it wasn't that hard.

If it's a bunch of neutral fans, the lack of "energy" may affect Clemson.... could work in our favor.....

I believe in our Hokie Fans to make themselves heard regardless....

Hope the boys take the surplus of "Clemson this, Clemson that" on the ACC Blogs to heart and shock the world...(Camping World)

Disney has a ton of Hokies in their employ. They do, or did, an internship program with tech (including direct flights from Roanoke to Orlando twice a week). My buddy started with that and now works FT in the accounting office at Disney.

Gonna be lots of maroon in Orlando.

The move from Charlotte to Orlando was never made in anticipation of improving attendance.

I am waiting for the ACC to take a real stand by moving the league headquarters out of North Carolina.

Ha, that'll be right around the same time they punish UNC, amiright

Moving the ACC Championship was in no way a deflection by the ACC to distract from their tacit acceptance of rogue programs like UNC. No sir, no way.

Freaking stupid to move the game from a central location to one so far away from most teams fan-base. Politics has no place in sports at all.

Protests aren't effective if they don't make things inconvenient

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Yeah, well, make em inconvenient for someone else

Actually to be honest I don't mind because I would've gone to Charlotte and spent money I don't have

Protests aren't effective when they inconvenience the innocent and have no effect on the guilty.

No effect? It's a big hit to the Charlotte economy.

"Exit light..."

Exactly. Punishing the people for one man's decision (or the decision of a few), whether you agree with it or not, is asinine.

Edit: I cleared that up but the point is still just as valid.

Using /s is for cowards.

one man

who represent(ed) the entire state...who was voted into that position by his constituents...

It's not as simple as one man's decision. I can't say much more than that without getting political but putting the decision squarely on one person is also asinine.

Onward and upward

Also without getting political there are a lot of logical holes in this. For instance the punishment also goes beyond the people who voted for him to those who didn't. Also many of the people who voted for him couldn't have predicted this decision and may not support this decision. However most importantly is a basic logical fallacy where rather than recognizing the person who made the decision, we are recognizing the people that that person cited. Swofford and the ACC made the decision. Whether we agree with the decision or not him and the ACC are the sole reason why the game was moved. By your logic you could just as easy blame Pat's mom. I mean after all if she hadn't birthed him then this wouldn't have happened anyways.*

*DISCLAIMER: I made sure not to touch on the political or moral side. I am purely speaking the logic of who made the decision regardless of how we feel about it.

Using /s is for cowards.

there are many levels, as you have pointed out, and which, to go back to my original point, means you can't put all the blame on one person. This is not simply about one decision. It's not simply about one person.

Onward and upward

I edited my previous comment to more accurately articulate my sentiment. My issue is simply that many people are being punished for a decision they didn't make and who took no part in making it happen.

Using /s is for cowards.

The legislature passed the bill before the governor signed it...the legislature is voted by the population of the entire state. The governor was just a scapegoat and a mouthpiece after the fact

If I am not mistaken....the state passed the bill in response to a law passed by the city of Charlotte. Seems odd to punish the city of Charlotte with this.

Multiple caveats here..

1 - Swofford didn't move the game, the ACC as a whole moved it, with the full backing of the Presidents and Athletic Directors. They did so because the sponsors were about to pull their funding which would have screwed everyone in a big, big way. They really had no choice.

2 - McCrory isn't the lone reason this happened. This was a bill that was rammed through the state literally overnight in the House and Senate in a special session costing taxpayers money. Regardless of what you think about the bill, people are pissed that the taxpayers had and still have no say whatsoever in this bill. And if you take the time to actually read it, the thing goes way beyond the bathroom situation to some rather large changes in public policy with no public insight. All of this happening at a time where just this week the state has been found to have legally gerrymandered the Congressional districts to the point where all representatives and senators in the state have been told they are up for reelection in 2017 in redrawn maps. People asked McCrory to overturn it just so the laws could be fully vetted and understood before going live, but that was refused so here we are.

Living in NC it really sucks that the game is in Orlando, but I understand and can't really argue with why it was done. People are protesting and the only way to get others to listen is to inconvenience them.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

"one man"...this was the basis of my paper bag comment in the Halfwits column...NC has something called a legislature.

___

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

My point is that many are getting punished for the decisions they didn't make. I will edit to clear it up.

'Elections have consequences" as they say...

Even for the ones who didn't vote for the one who won the election.

With all this said I'm going to wrap up commenting on this topic. I apologize if I went too far or offended anybody. This one is just a little personal to me. I have family in NC whose businesses and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by decisions similar to the one Swofford and the ACC have made here.

Using /s is for cowards.

Even for the ones who didn't vote for the one who won the election.

Yes, about 63 million of us understand that fully...

Tax revenue. The language that governments listen to.

And with this, I too am done with the sub-thread.

"Exit light..."

Yes and that still impacts the people...

Using /s is for cowards.

I gave a leg, thinking about idiots who protest by blocking the interstate.

I wouldn't say no effect. Isn't the governor going to lose re-election specifically because of the hit to the NC economy?

That will be my only comment on the matter. The people spoke, and once they realized the effects of their voice, they spoke differently when given the chance.

Seems like the system is working as intended.

Where else would it go? FedEx?

I would rather watch the game on TV than go to FedEx for a game. I even with free overnight housing less than 30 minutes away on a normal weekday.

Politics has no place in sports at all.

You must be new to the world of sports. Sports organizations make money, goverments like taking money, and organizations with money like having political power to protect their brand. The major professional leagues are worse about it, but the ncaa and conferences are part of the system too.

While I don't disagree with your point that I want sports and politics to seperate themselves, it's not currently possible and the ACC would have still been making a political statement by not moving the game.

While from a purely football fan perspective I would much rather the game be played in Charlotte, I think the ACC made the best of the bad choices they had.

I attended the Military Bowl two years ago and while I had a blast and got plenty loud, there were a large number of military folks who got tickets for free that weren't really enthused about the game. Not that I don't think they should get free tickets or are bad fans or anything but it was sort of a bummer to have a large number of people in neutral colors not supporting either team.

I hope that type of thing doesn't happen tomorrow night. Hokies have to get extra loud to make up for it.

I mean, it was being held at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis right next to the Naval Academy. But I see your point.

VB born, class of '14

Yeah I know. I liked the venue and the proximity to a big chunk of the Hokie Nation. I'm just highlighting how different it was to other bowl games I've been to.

When i was stationed in Shreveport, the independence bowl would give large swaths of tickets away to the base. Upwards to ten a person. A majority of these would be sold for next to nothing, and the rest either didn't show or left early. It made for terrible game day experiences. ...but still i enjoyed going to the game for free

Hey if they aren't being bought up sure why not let some people go for the heck of it.

Isnt even the first time its impacted VT. Back in 2011 I went to the Sugar Bowl because any Cadet that wanted got 3 free tickets.

I was at VT at the wrong time...

They were solid seats too! right on the the home sideline a section up the field from the corner of the endzone where Danny mad his catch.

So you had a section of basically just drunk cadets, then the band, then the regular student section all next to each other.

Man, as soon as VT was announced in the Sugar Bowl that year...i went and bought a ticket. $90.

Like two days later, the base i was at gave them away for free.

Not complaining, i had a phenomenal view of the game. ...such a great win.

My story about that game is that the Natty was being played in NO that year. We decided to get tickets, regardless of who was playing.

After purchasing them in September I realized my mistake, in that I had tickets to the Sugar Bowl, not the Natty (to be played the following week). Given that was our only window, we accepted the fact that we were going to watch some random bowl in N'Awlins. Spent the whole season shaking our head.

btw, It was a catch.

Let us not forget:

Truly a great day for the ACC

man, those Boise state fans sure do travel well! /s

oh well, ill still be comfy and drunk in my recliner

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

I would have taken free tickets and driven my family down for the weekend!

There didn't need to be a statement of any kind by the ACC, just because somebody wants to protest doesn't mean they get their wish. The fans and participants in this game are the ones paying for this move. All this because of trannys going in the bathroom of their choice? That's insane. It should have been an exciting sell out, that many of us would have been happy to attend. And trannys going into a bathroom and a law made by elected officials has nothing to do with where an organization plays a game that makes the most sense for them. Instead they are giving tickets away and pimping them on facebook for $30.

Really unacceptable comment here

Excuse me, "transgender"

Hell you could have tranny's pissing in the aisles or in the concourses for all I care. The game should have been in Charlotte. Might get lower attendance than the MAC championship now.

There is a line between discussing economical implications and the objective facts of governing. The comments above are well over that line. I will shut down this thread if any more stupidity leaks into it. Members are reminded to respect the Community Guidelines or face account deactivation.

I apologize for this thread. Thought my statement of

Not going to get into politics

would avoid that. Obviously not. Just wanted to get across the info that tens of thousands of tickets are being given away. Shouldn't have even mentioned it. Feel free to take this thread down.

I'll be in Charlotte at Southpark mall tomorrow to do some Christmas shopping with friends before watching the game. I don't care about the reason, the move to Orlando was stupid and I'm incredibly upset I'll be in the wrong city tomorrow because I couldn't take off work in less than a week's notice to catch the Thursday Allegiant flight. #GOACC

Yup. I specifically took vacation this week for the ACC Championship. The first year I could go since 2011 and it's moved. I will be Christmas shopping in Charlotte as well. Premium outlets and Carolina Place for me. South Park is too rich for my blood. Happy deal hunting!

I like this relevant username.

Thanks! Obligatory Fuck Clemson.

Just checked stubhub....tickets going for like 10 bucks lol

I'm just saying, last time I bought tickets to the ACCCG, Tech wound up going 6-6 so clearly I'm bad luck when it comes to these games.
