These Ohio unis are pretty sharp, especially for Russell. 8/10.

Not sure what the hell is going on with WMU's shoulders though. 5/10 at best.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Said the same thing about WMU. Really like the Ohio helmets though!

Remember when the Hokies pounded this Western Michigan team? This has been a great coaching job by Fleck. It is a shame that he is going to bail on that program. I don't begrudge him, but he has built something special.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

I'm just happy we had to play them two years ago and not this season.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Why is it a shame he will leave? He's a really good coach, he should have better resources to see what he can do. Is it a shame Urban left BGSU?

Or that Fuente left Memphis...

No

It kinda sucks that these mid-majors will be forever stepping stones for coaches to get 'power 5' jobs. Not sure we'll ever again see a program transform from a mid-major to a national power like VT did during the 90's. Maybe Boise, Houston or Navy?

Not without expansion or the current way the playoffs are decided.

It's all about resources. Without a major conference affiliation or a deep-pockets donor, most schools simply can't invest the money in coaches and facilities that you need to compete at a high level.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

I get it, but if a good coach sticks around for 20 years, they can build the facilities and help the school acquire the resources to compete at a high level (see Beamer; Frank). Coaches don't build programs any more. And I'm not faulting coaches for doing this; I can't blame them for choosing to accelerate their careers. I just think it would be cool if coaches did this more often.

Just turned on Fox and you know who was on screen talking football. At least they showed his loss to Pitt keeping his team out of NC game.

A pretty common theme over the years. Corso is a great example.

If you're a good coach, you coach.

So is Greenberg in Basketball

Opposite may be true too. Mack Brown -- good coach, not a good commentator.

Some of the main stream media are getting bent out of shape over the idea of a Navy AAC championship. Chaos! Ripples through the entire bowl system! Thoughts?

To me it depends on how the Committee values their win. WMU end up 13-0 and are already ranked ahead of Navy, but Navy could have a higher quality win this weekend. Should Navy jump the Broncos, it puts an additional six day hold on some bowl selections for the Army-Navy results. I think the few bowls in question should just be listed as "Navy or WMU", etc, and everyone move on with life.

I'm from Annapolis, and would love to see Navy in the Cotton Bowl, but I'd also love to see Western Michigan play a blueblood team. How can you keep an undefeated FBS conference champion out of the NY6 games?

Mack has made it hard to listen to this Mac game.

They were never going to the playoff and never will unless they change the format for the playoffs (8 teams, all P5 champs and highest ranked G5 champ, 2 at-large). But that's a discussion for another thread which I think we've already had as well.

11 of 13 wins against the bottom third of college football. They should be playing a bowl game in Detroit.

If Navy wins we will see a delayed playoff committee rankings which will hold up a lot of bowl assignments. Not great for planning and booking purposes.

If Navy wins the American title game Saturday, College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock has said the committee could delay announcing the Group of 5 representative in the Cotton Bowl until after the Dec. 10 Army-Navy game.

ESPN Article

Unless Navy finds themselves higher ranked than WMU this week, it really shouldn't. Another win over Army should not be enough to move them up spots to surpass WMU. I just don't see this scenario as likely with the WMU win.

In addition, it should only affect the MAC and AAC bowl selection. However, that would suck for fans of teams in those conferences, considering MAC and AAC have bowls on Dec 17, only a week later than Army/Navy.

Maybe there's too many bowls?

Irregardless

Not saying it's not a word, just makes me cringe. From your link:

Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

This is efforts by Webster to keep "irregardless" from rising in the rankings. /s

Do they even know what footballs are? That was some sad throwing.

It's evolved over the years, i remember when only a few contestants would do it here and there. But it's proven to be far more efficient and easier to make than throwing it like a qb, so everybody is doing it now.

Personally, i don't see how i could miss if i were chucking that bitch via chest passes

I have absolutely no idea what is and is not targeting. Lead with the crown of the helmet and hit the QB in the facemask but it's not targeting? Who knows

PAC-12 Officials gonna PAC-12

"Win or lose we'll greet you with a glad returning!"

Did anyone else see that play where Browning seemed to be trying to throw the ball away, underthrew it (looked like it could turn into a pick six), then John Ross caught it and scored. That play was immediately followed by a return to almost midfield, the returner fumbled it, and another Colorado player caught the fumble in stride and took it almost all the way and was tackled at the three.

A perfect #PAC12AFTERDARK moment.

Yeah, it was pretty thrilling back to back

I think I saw the end of that one, and it looked like the ref kept it from being a TD. If the player could have kept running on his path, he would have scored, but he shifted to avoid the zebra and that's how he was caught.

Does other games include El Clasico? Six minutes in and we've seen some dives, a no call on a penalty appeal, and some scrappiness.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Just tuned in for the second half. Guessing I didn't miss much other than the goal!

uva sucks

I thought it was a fun game to watch. The tides changed several times and both teams had opportunities to make it a W but couldn't find the back of the net.

Looks like they aren't going to have to worry too much about Navy winning. I mean still a ton of time but not looking good for the midshipmen.

See what you did there.

Well, having watched the Washington-Colorado game last night, I have absolutely no problem dropping a 12-1 Washington team from the playoffs for a second B1G team. Washington has obvious flaws and are inflated by wins over absolutely nobody out of conference. In fact their OOC schedule ranks 123 out of 128 teams.

As always the PAC12 is overrated and their only "quality" wins are against other Pac 12 teams.

Hey, that argument works in favor of most of the SEC, so why not apply it elsewhere?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Completely agree! Both Oklahoma and B1G winner should be ahead of Washington. You have to reward teams for scheduling tough nonconference games, not penalize them.

Lets say Oklahoma schedules William and Mary (sorry Tribe) UVA instead of Ohio St., they would be a one loss conference champ and likely ahead of Washington. OU should not be penalized for playing Ohio St. If Washington gets in, what is the point of scheduling games against other top tier P5 schools? There isn't one!

We all want to see games like OU-Ohio St., Wisconsin-LSU, VT-Tenn, etc. The committee cannot set the precedent that if you do not schedule anyone, you can still play for it all. Otherwise, VT should change its future noncon schedules to only include teams like Liberty, Costal Carolina, and ODU....and hope to only lose one conference game. Boring, but is an apparent ticket to the playoffs!

In other news, OU and Michigan have 2 losses and only 10 wins, against zero title game appearances.

___

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

By that logic, uva should be champs for their murderers row of ooc games.

That they lost. Over several years.

I am just saying that I believe that when you are comparing teams with similar win/loss records, who you play matters! We are not comparing a 2 win UVA team to a 2 loss B1G champ.

If only wins and losses matter, then why is Western Michigan not ranked 2 behind Bama. It is due to the quality of teams they play. In fact, until Navy lost today, they were still very much in consideration for the Cotton bowl spot (over WMU) with 2 losses. Why? Strength of schedule!

Except that Oklahoma has 2 losses, both by multiple scores. Washington still only has 1 loss.

If Oklahoma wanted to be rewarded for their scheduling, then they shouldn't have lost to the only two good non-conference teams that they scheduled.

Watching this Bedlam game and gotta say this style of play is just vicious to watch. Have to have been half a dozen head-to-head hits and possible concussions during this game.

Slightly OT: but lolUVA lost to WVU in roundball. Any time any lolUVA sport loses I get happy.

I really don't understand how some of these facemark penalties don't result in more serious damage. Florida player just bout decapitated a 'Bama player.

Why couldn't they have put PSU v wisc on at 3:30 and the sec champ at 8? This game is so boring to watch because you just know that florida isn't going to win. It's almost painful to watch. And really the only reason I'm watching is because nothing else is on.

And I guess I just answered my own question. If the SEC champ was on at the same time as our game the only people watching it would be Florida and Bama fans. This way everyone who wants to watch a football game midday has to watch it. Bastards.

In the Bama-UF, I just saw one of the most egregious helmet to helmet targetings (by Bama's #7 Diggs). There was no flag and no mention whatsoever about it by Danielson or Vern. This....even with them showing 4-5 replays of it.

I am speechless. The NCAA HAS to find some consistency with how targeting is enforced.

Virginian by Birth, Hokie by Choice

That's how it has been all season with Bama games. I remember it happening multiple times when they played A&M. Any other conference it's targeting, in the SEC it's hard-nosed football. SEC Bias.

uva sucks

Hey its the sec. You know the announcers have their orders!!!! Its all bullshit!

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

Bama-UF is getting chippy as hell. I don't think I've ever seen 3 personal fouls on one play, all by the same team. Facemask (declined), unnecessary roughness - flagrant for a body slam (assessed half the distance, player ejected), unsportsmanlike conduct (assessed, half the distance).

"Exit light..."

i thought bama would win by 40. If it wasn't for the blocked kick.

I don't care if Penn State won.

The Big 10 doesn't get two teams in the playoffs.

I'm sick of Herbstreit.

If the Big 10 only gets one, it should be PSU over anOSU. Remember the committee has said for years that conference championships matter. /s

I think I heard somewhere that Michigan beat PSU by 39.

You know, I really don't care about that. PSU was missing almost their entire LB corps that game and they did win the damn B1G.

I also think PSU has a strong argument to be included over OSU. Early season games, even those decided by wide margins, lose value over time as an indicator of overall team quality.

Agreed. It's hilarious hearing the ESPN analysts talk out of both sides of their mouths this morning. The OSU argument is "it doesn't matter that they aren't a conference champ, their schedule and resume is so strong." Then for Washington, "oh their resume is terrible and a weak schedule, but they won the PAC-12!" Completely contradictory. If the OSU argument is true, then you put in Michigan. If the Washington argument holds more weight, you put them and PSU in over OSU. The committee is just going to put in whomever they want and justify it in any way to suit their needs. Anyone trying to find any logic at all in this process is a fool.
