If you read some of the comments from the talking heads this week, Evans might have the best chance in the ACC next year

This speaks a lot to how the game of college football has changed in the last 15 years, but here's a stat I've been struggling to wrap my mind around all week:
Jerod Evans needs 215 yards of total offense in the bowl game to pass Michael Vick's career total.

Mike Vick is being humbled saying Lamar Jackson is better than him. Lamar is great player, but Vick changed the QB position and paved the way for guys like Lamar. There is no doubt that Mike Vick was better than Lamar.

I saw Randall Cunningham. Not even close to Vick. Vick indeed changed the college game at QB.

So, obviously our QB play is the main focus of discussion when we talk about the Nissan ESPN Watered Down by Branding and Unavoidable TV presence Heisman.
My random thought for a Sunday morning is.. How much did Brewer help define what we saw this year, in terms of his impact on leadership and character? I think his "tough as nails" mentality and sheer will left an imprint on the program. Certainly the pieces were in place for a good transition with SMFR, and even Coach Fuente's style. But I think MB marked a bit of a return to that hard-nosed mentality we'd missed on in some recent years.

I honestly completely agree with this! MB may not have been the best Quarterback, but he was good in his own right, now he is just one BAMF! He left the game of football to ride rodeo bulls, fish, and hunt, his retirement at 20 something is where I want to be!
Brewer was hands down one of the toughest college QBs I have ever seen. Dude never quit after consistently getting destroyed by opposing defenses.

I think Branden Ore and maybe The "other" Vick were on the watchlist too in the past
Brandon Ore could have been so great. He rushed for 200 yards in two straight games back in 2006 and basically carried that team on his back in the second half of the season. Sometimes I wonder if the workload he took that season was why he wasn't as good in 2007.
There's an old ESPN article about Branden Ore and why he was kicked from the team. I always thought he had the ability and talent to carry the team if he was focused enough. I remember reading he got caught up with the wrong people and discipline issues seemed to crop up often. Here's the link to the article.

Yea. We struck gold with those fellas. Too bad they weren't available when Ore was running around. I think Mike Imoh was his backup at one point and so was Cedric Humes.
With Fuente's scheme distributing touches to so many players it would be truly astounding to me if any player other than the QB was able to put together the numbers for Heisman consideration.
Evans is the obvious choice...the dark horse candidate is Stroman if he balls out on special teams.

I'm working on a joke about only 5 people being invited to NY, when I figure it out I'll get back to you.
QBs normally get it when they have a good team around them making them look better than what they are. Our guys were great but they didn't have a team that made them look extraordinary.
If Evans had a good offensive line to give him all day protection, he would be a front runner. ( sorry o-line, but that's the facts)
Dark horse... Cam. If he keeps getting used in the rushing game and get 1,200 rec yds and 400 rushing yds and maybe a few punt returns he's got a chance.
Your last point is key. The only way Cam would have any chance is if he tookover fulltime PR duties. The last WR to win the Heisman was Desmond Howard in 1991. That season, he had 19 receiving TDs, 2 rushing TDs, 1 kick return TD, and 1 punt return TD.
Honestly with the way we spread the ball on offense, I don't see anyway Cam could win. If Cam had 19 receiving TDs, it would probably mean Evans had 40+ passing TDs (Evans has 27 passing TDs this season & nobody has more than 7 receiving TDs) not to mention all the rushing that Evans adds.
Tyler Boyd did that for two years and didn't even get a mention.
Just saw disturbing voting information on heisman: 41 ballots didn't have Jackson on them and multiple ballots were filled out and sent in during week 3 of football.
What, you thought the Heisman was about the integrity of the voters?
