Not to throw a bunch of nerdness in everyone's face on a Monday morning, but with Rogue One coming out I know there are some Star Wars fans what will be coming out of the wood work this week.
I was able to score some tickets to an early screening tomorrow night, so I am pretty excited about that, although it is going to keep me out a bit later than I would enjoy. Gonna wear my favorite Tshirt, it usually gets a double take.
Anyone else out there with thoughts on this? Early reports that are dropping says this one does not disappoint.

Early reviews and stuff I've seen are absolutely raving over it. So I'm excited but my expectation is to be greatly entertained, if it goes above and beyond that, that will just be icing on the cake.
We took my daughter (and sons) to the last Star Wars film and I was surprised at how much she enjoyed it and the heroine....so she's excited the Rogue ads.
I think the Star Wars franchise has found a new demographic....
A coworker of mine took his 3-year-old son... who then demanded to go see it pretty much every day for the next few months. I think they actually took him 4-5 more times, and the Blu-ray they got has been well used.

seeing as how I won't be seeing the movie until likely after Christmas, I may have to check out of this thread for a while.... which sucks, because the movie looks to be pretty damn good
That's how it was for me with Force Awakening. I think sometime this weekend for me.
The wife went home for Christmas already since she's done with school, and made me promise that we'll see it together. I'll be flying down on the 23rd since I work through the 22nd. Gonna be a long week avoiding the internet...
Wife doesn't care anything for sci-fi be it ST or SW (though she does like the superhero stuff). I am Han SOLO for this (luckily, she's an RN that works at night).

I'm fortunate enough to have married someone that's at least as big of a nerd as me. Gaming together online helped bridge 8 years of long distance.
And while our nerd-doms still don't completely overlap, I finally got her to come around on Star Wars a couple years ago, just in time to get hyped for Force Awakens.

Actually, she was really pissed when Buffalo picked up Tyrod, since she is also a Dolphins fan. And she went to Phoebus, which was Hampton's major cross-town rival, and Tyrod went to Hampton. So it's been 10 seasons over 14 years of him causing all sorts of grief to her favorite teams, which has been pretty fun.

My gf didn't really grow up with sports. Her HS and college didn't have any sports teams. She's still learning about football, but she's trying (which I appreciate)
Wife and I are big time Hokie fans, we try to go to every game we can and always make time to watch on TV when we can't. She also grew up watching her older brother play video games so she inherently finds enjoyment watching me play video games. No, you can not have it all as the trade off is we watch all those godforsaken hallmark Christmas movies almost non-stop from Thanksgiving on. Marriage is just a fancy word for friends who figured out how to compromise.

Bought tickets for a 7:30 showing on Thursday weeks ago. I'm looking forward to it!
Based on how good it ends up being, I will probably be going again this weekend. Lots of people want to see it, but to this early showing I only have one ticket. If I don't feel like it is worth seeing again, I will make that call then. Most are saying this rivals Force awakens, so pretty exciting

I plan on seeing it at some point. The hype train is about to go off the rails. I saw where Wil Wheaton said that it was the best Star Wars movie that he's seen since 1977.
Well he was 5, so maybe.

I know I may be wrong in my thinking here but I really don't have that big of an interest in this. I guess it cause it an off shoot of the main story but I just can't get into it.

They are certainly testing the waters between Force Awakens and Rogue One with a strong heroine.
As the father of an awesome 4 year old girl, I am totally on board with it too. She is almost as excited as me to go see it.

If you have even a slight interest in this movie I urge you to go see it. It is quite unlike any other Star Wars movie, and has you on edge at many points. Surprisingly well done.
The original skit from SNL where Hammond says this as Clinton has me cracking up every time.

Well, that means were going to get a quite a few more offshoots. I am mixed on this, no doubt I will see this movie, but I'll likely not pay to do so in theater.
Since Disney purchased the franchise, we have seen episode 1 of a new trilogy, and before episode 2 of said trilogy, we are getting a standalone blockbuster that fills in some prexisting story gap before A New Hope.
Now I love Star Wars, but the cynic in me that complains about the absolute lack of original content coming out nowadays, and fears for the longevity of the franchise and what Disney could do with their absolute need to monetize.

Well we already know that in addition to th enext 2 movies of the new trilogy, we are also definitely getting a standalone Han Solo movie and a Boba Fett movie at some point.
In either case I am fine with those if they are done with care, and it does sound like Disney was smart enough to make Rogue One a decent film, based on the reviews I have seen.
But to your point, if we are 10 years from now and Disney is spitting out spinoff movies of the Cantina Band on tour, then we will have problems.
I think the Boba Fett movie has been canceled for for now. That doesn't mean they wont come up with 10 more proposals for one in the meantime though.
My wish is they bring back Ewan McGregor and do a Kenobi standalone movie.
I completely agree. There's actually an interesting video done by a Star Wars fans taking clips from a movie McGregor did (Last Days in the Desert) playing Jesus and made a trailer for Obi Wan in his time on Tatooine between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
From when, what would the plot be? From the destruction of the Jedi in Episode III, until A New Hope, isnt he just chillen' doing crosswords and sudoku puzzles on Tatooine for like 20 years?
I think it 'd be interesting to see a Count Dooku storyline. Christopher Lee really made that character excellent. Dooku was the apprentice of Yoda, master of Qui-Gon Jinn, before joining the darkside and becoming Palpatines apprentice, immediately following Darth Maul and preceding Darth Vader.
It's pretty interesting to think on the Jedi family tree when Yoda trains Luke Skywalker in those nasty swamps.

There's a big ole gap between Ep1 and 2 of McGregor-aged Obi-Wan. Granted, that would involve some Anakin time as well, but in the old EU, Kenobi had lots of solo time in that period with (trying to avoid possible future spoilers should the EU be brought back) some great adversaries that people tended to like a lot.
Where did you hear that? I haven't heard anything definitive one way or the other since it was first rumored.

IGN is blocked, so maybe I'll read that later, but found a Gizmodo story from the same time frame that makes it sound like it's up in the air. Sounds like there were a number of issues with the director, but I assume there's still a chance that someone else will pick it up and we could still have a Boba Fett movie in 2020. And even if we don't, they will definitely replace it with something similar, another Anthologies story.
The whole movie is just going to be about his life inside the belly of the Sarlac.

It looks like we are going to get at least 1 per year, released among the holiday season to maximize on the big movie season and the holiday merchandising opportunities.

So in 10 years if we are talking about 20+ star wars movies, I am feeling we will experience some brand saturation.
I can see it now, we'll all start to have a cut-off of when the series went to shit, like we do with the Office/Dexter/Caddy Shack/the Hangover/the Home Alone series/Kanye West Albums (College Dropout to be exact). We won't allow our kids to watch anything past N, because in our minds, it is complete trash that ruined the brand and should have never been made anyways. Don't ruin it, Disney.
In my opinion, Disney is only repairing the damage that LucasArts did with episodes 1-3. Now, I still love all things Star Wars and will watch the prequels without question, but IMO, Force Awakens was extremely well done and from what I hear Rogue One will be a huge hit as well. I agree that 20+ movies may be a bit much but it just depends on how they go about it. But so far, Disney is killing it and I for one would welcome a Boba Fett spin off. My advice, enjoy it now while its happening and worry about brand saturation if/when it happens.
They're going to do what they've done with Marvel. Some people are feeling that brand saturation with it now, but personally I don't have that issue yet. Mainly because a lot of the stuff they're putting out there are great films on their own (Dr. Strange was a fantastic movie, for instance) and the quality isn't poor by any means.
As long as they don't putting out a bad product as a means to milk the market because they KNOW they can (looking at you, Peter Jackson) I'll take a Star Wars a year for the rest of my life.
Marvel has like 50 movies planned over the next like 10 years, I don't think they are sniffing that level of brand saturation yet.
As a pretty big Tolkien fan, I derived what enjoyment I could from those, but that third Hobbit movie was a difficult task to find enjoyment from. Still a very odd decision to split a book smaller than any of the three LOTR books into three parts, but money talks.
I too, could live with this reality.

I think they introduced it in December to help it stand out in case it bombed, and after the first few they'll move it to the start of summer like the other big blockbusters. It is possible that they'll add more, but it seems like they're trying to limit the flow of new releases to keep it fun.
When do we get movie about Ewoks and Wookies?
Remember the Ewok tv movies from the 80s? At the time, I enjoyed them. One had a large monster that scared me. Afraid if I rewatch, I won't think of them as fondly. Have read they are not good.
There was a Wookie movie at one point. It was so bad that it was almost funny.

Edit: I have a little more time to describe it now. It was styled like a variety show. It had musical guests, a cooking show, somewhat of a plot, Princess Leia singing while she is high as a kite, and Luke and Han look like they were forced to be there. It had the opening Star Wars style reel but was even lower budget. It was only supposed to be one hour, but they turned it into a two hour prime time TV special. It had record viewership when it started and decreased the entire time. At the start of hour two, it dropped dramatically for a history documentary playing at the same time. You can tell where they just started adding filler to make it two hours long. There aren't even subtitles when the Wookies are talking! That cooking show was literally a full 15 minute cooking show for a wookie dish. Chewbaccas dad was watching what everyone believes to be Wookie/space porn at one point. It's probably the most ridiculous thing that has ever aired. Harrison Ford doesn't acknowledge that it exists. George Lucas has been quoted saying he wants to take a sledgehammer to every copy in existence. It really is awful.
I've heard of the Star Wars Christmas special, but never saw it. Sounds worse than the Ewok tv movies.

That was an awesome cinematic experience.
Just saw it. Liked it, great prequel to a New Hope.
Without dropping spoilers, I felt like they didn't build a few relationships and characters enough earlier in the movie. I felt like this hurt the ending a little bit. Otherwise, it was very well done and was very enjoyable.
Saw it last night. Great movie. I don't think anyone that is fan of Star Wars will be disappointed.
My 13 year old son gives it 2 thumbs WAY up. He saw it tonight with best friend's fam. Since he is a fanboy, I would call that high praise.
As a Star Wars fan (and Disney fanatic/shareholder) I highly recommend this movie.
