We actually lost a couple votes and are still 27th.
Florida jumped into the poll with 3 losses. Which doesn't make sense to me at all. If writers are going to be hyping up the ACC, and hating on the SEC for not being a good conference, the 1 loss ACC team should be ranked ahead of a 3 loss SEC team.
As a friendly reminder, the Hokies are off to their best start since 2009-10, have won 12 straight at home, just had a 28 point victory in their only game last week, and have their two senior leaders coming off the bench.
Keep doubting this program.

Lame, but whatever I guess
Ranking at end of ACC play is what matters. Would greatly prefer to be #25 at that point, than #15 right now.
I love our team, and feel really good about what I have seen from them so far, Texas A&M notwithstanding, but I'm still unsure what they can do in the ACC. I have high hopes, but until we can prove it to those without the O&M glasses that I wear, I'm not able to criticize the rankings. Yet. Our strength of schedule and RPI aren't notable, and yet we're not that far out of the top 25, so a couple of quality wins and we're climbing, baby.
Florida's 3 losses are to Gonzaga, Duke, and FSU. That's not so bad.
I would love to see a ranked VT team but, to be honest, they haven't really beaten anyone spectacular. Hopefully that changes by the end of the week.
As much as I want to be ranked, we need to earn it. Win the next two games, they earn it.

We're a historically underperforming basketball program, so the bar is much higher to get national respect. Since you compared us to Florida, they actually have a history of being a heavyweight in their conference and a few national titles.
Personally I'm not worried about that. The ACC is to basketball what the SEC is to football. That is, if we do okay in conference we'll get attention by the national media.

Florida's RPI is like 17th... Ours is 63
I know RPI isn't always the best indicator, but I can't really argue their ranking. They're clearly doing something right
Its because they literally have not played a home game yet and RPI is a dumb stat that gives you a ton of credit for road games. More telling is kenpom where we are 35th(9th!!! in the ACC which is absurd) and Florida is 14th
By either margin they deserve it and we don't, until we beat dook.
Are you really that concerned when we are ranked in December? If we're not getting into the tournament this year (we we are projected as of right now), then you can start demonstrating concern.
Strength of conference means nothing atm as we haven't started conference play. Like a previous poster said at the end of the year conference strength comes into play.
I like the fact that we're getting no respect as a one-loss ACC team, and although we haven't played a super tough schedule up to this point, we haven't played all cupcakes either. If we play with a chip on our shoulder, we can take down Duke and move into the rankings, but we must continue to play with that chip on our shoulder throughout ACC play. However, our lack of depth and a steady inside presence (besides LeDay) concerns me, and may even play a part as to why we're not ranked. It's really too bad Blackshear isn't healthy, cause that would help alleviate both of those concerns. But whatever way we want to look at it, Buzz has us looking up and we should be in contention in the strongest basketball conference around.

This is not a big deal. While you always want to have all the Hokies teams ranked, we werent likely going to move up on an extremely light week in scheduling across the nation. There were only two ranked teams that lost this week. #6 Kentucky lost to #10 Louisville, and Clemson beat #22 South Carolina. This meant there was probably room for one new team in the polls this week. It just happened to be Florida, which has a much higher basketball pedigree than we do. As was pointed out above,they have losses to #5, #11, and another potential Top 25 team in FSU. They also have several wins over P5/G5 schools, notable is Miami, Seton Hall, and St Bonaventure. Also consider this when looking at the two schools, Florida's average KenPom Opponent Ranking is 105.4 compared to Virginia Tech at 205.7, so the quality of opponents for Florida on average is almost 100 schools higher than Tech so far this season.
