Shout outs to a couple good predictions

Nah, that's Loeffler talk. Good OCs don't need that much time. We will be in the top half of ACC offenses this year with an outside shot at being 4th behind UNC/Clem/FSU.Comment Score: +4 | Vote:

Syracuse - Loss. Ugggh.... The Hokies find themselves back in the polls and the talk of the town. This team needs to learn how to deal with success and focus on each game one at a time. They take the Orange too lightly and in that Jiffy Pop dome find themselves down by 3 scores to start the 4th quarter. Evans has not faced this kind of adversity yet and while he battles back, he loses his battle with the clock. (35-38)... The ghost of McNadd is smiling down at the citrus troop as the students storm the field and climb the goal posts.10-2 and looking forward to Clemson.................
Lets GO!!!!

Wow, that's some vegas insider level predicting from gahokie.
FYI-the season win total for VT in Vegas was 7.5, so we beat that pretty easily
was that 7.5 regular season wins or total wins? /s
regular season...sorry for the confusion-this doesn't include championship games or bowl games
Naw, you're good. I was really more referencing the shitstorm pre-season when someone decided to take issue with bowl games/championships counting towards pre-season wins predictions. Yes, it was that slow that this blew up into a big deal.
Aren't you excited that we're about to head into another offseason?
Ooo oo oo can we discuss morality again??? :D
Only if you do it on a recruiting thread. Those generally need more posts. /s/s/s
lol....then there's this gem
sorry cds7c
I guess your predictions could be categorized as hot and cold because you nailed this one
Mine weren't much better, TBH
Pitts offense (and defense) was probably the surprise of the ACC. Watch them get back to their stingy defensive ways next year.
I'm expecting their defense to be much improved, but for their offense to be much worse.
My exact words last year were "I don't see how their offense does anything after losing their OC and top offensive weapon", and at the risk of sounding like an idiot again, I'll be saying it this year too.
Someone screenshot this comment so we can discuss this the same time next year :)
I never forgot about that Syracuse loss prediction or my reply to it. The frustration of the actual experience makes me want to slap myself for joking about it.
So I think my prediction was ten wins via the Sesame Street image. But I also wanted to beat who I thought we should and lose to who I thought we should - if we had done that, my optimism would have been fulfilled, but it would have resulted in a 7-5 regular season.
While I'm very disappointed with the losses to Syracuse and GT, the wins over UNC, Miami, and ND, the division championship, and the bowl win temper my disappointment by quite a bit.
The way I see it, the losses to Syracuse and GT are good learning experiences for the coaches to point to down the line to show we a) still have work to do for the future, and b) no matter how good we are, in ACC play nobody is really good enough to simply show up and win on talent alone. If we can learn those lessons now and have the underclassmen adapt to this mindset, later on when we're pulling in better recruiting classes (hopefully this year is a start and not a high bar) the juniors and seniors will be hammering it into them that we have to be prepared for every game, and it'll be a part of our culture going forward. Kind of in the same way that losses to the likes of Wake and BC, and everything which created 'Clemsoning' humbled the Tigers early on in Dabo's tenure and locked in the kind of mindset that led to the last couple seasons.
I am not sure that anything good can ever come from losing to GT. We helped save the Chin's job.
*sigh*
The similarities between our team this year and Clemson's 2011 team are striking. While Dabo had 2 and 1/4 seasons as HC before 2011, it was his first season with Chad Morris, which helps with my comparison. Bringing in Chad Morris helped turn a 6-7 Clemson team with one of it's worst offenses in my lifetime into a 10-4 ACC championship team with the best offense Clemson had had in my lifetime (at the time). That year, they won some games people didn't expect them to, Auburn, Florida State, Us (twice, fuck) BUT they also had some bad losses. They looked totally out of sorts offensively against... Georgia Tech, and took an L. A few weeks later they had an absolute "wtf" game against NC State (think Syracuse) where they looked like they didn't even bother showing up for the game and lost. They also mirrored our seasons by making a few substantial comebacks and winning some games where they had to keep scoring to win. They also lost to an SEC east team, like we did.
The major differences between the seasons are that we didn't have the embarrassing showing on defense (thanks, Bud) where we give up 70 to the cousins, and that we didn't win the ACCCG. First one makes sense, no way we were gonna give up 70 to anybody, not with Bud Foster and a better D than Clemson had that year. Second one makes sense too, 2016 Clemson was a much tougher opponent than 2011 Virginia Tech was for Clemson.
Hopefully we can follow a similar path to relevance and breaking into the elite status. Clemson benefitted from having lots of familiar faces on offense through those first three seasons with Morris as Tahj, Martavis Bryant, Sammy Watkins, and Nuk Hopkins were all there for 2 (Nuk)-3(the rest) of those years. So it was pretty easy for them to get a little better each of those seasons. But I think we can follow a similar narrative if we continue to win and start to recruit better consistently. That said, we may need to find our special player. No way Clemson wins a NC, or even makes it, this year without their best player in school history, Deshaun Watson.
Thanks for the shout out jpoole but don't forget that I predicted wins over Tenn and GT.... Hate that we saved PJ's bacon. Now that Nads tops my hate, hate, hate list, there's really no need to keep that turd from Ga Tech around any longer.
Did beating us really save Paul Johnson's job? If we won that game, but everything else shook out the same or similarly for them, they still have a pretty good season.
They would have been 3-5 in conference and would have lost a win over the #14 team on the road. Their only other win of note was over UGa. Lose both of those and he's gone. Win against us, but not UGa and it's a coin toss. Beat UGa and lose to us? His seat is incredibly hot next season. I honestly think he bought himself a free pass for next year with both these wins.
Beating UGA probably buys him another 5 years. That IS there rivalry gain, made all the more intense because UGA fans do not respect it or consider it one, just an easy win to pad the schedule.
I didn't do a preseason prediction because I didn't want to jinx our 10-win season. If you guys want to take me out to lunch to say thank you, I wouldn't mind.
It has been so hard living in NoVa now and not having a Hardee's or a Cookeout anywhere in the region.
Can we find the staff predictions and talk about them too? I recall seeing a few Eeyores out there...
ETA: Found them.
Of note...
Joe: 6-6
Alex: 7-5
Pierson: 7-5
Everyone was spot-on about a breakout player, though... except Ryan (not much Divine Deablo burn this year at all).
You mean...Optimus Primes?
Ah yes, that was one of the many threads where I made this prediction:

TEN! was TOP before TOP was cool for HOAT to do.
Ah yes, TEN! and TOP. Almost made me forget about Leal.
#TreyToLB
Ah yes, good ol' Trey to LB. Reminds me of Marshawn > Shai
Wow, some great predictions there. Hope we don't play in the carrier dome
for a while. It was hard to know how this season would go but I'll take 10 wins.
Good job there, me... way to nail it on the head with that one...
Oh, but it gets better... scroll down to see I predicted 6-6 and thought we'd beat Syracuse....
