Too many tweets to embed, but a lot of action on twitter from Junior day for those interested.
If you want to see them but don't follow VT recruiting sites. Checking Thomas Guerry's favorites should show a lot of the tweets. Kereon Joyner, Keshon Artis, Dejuan Ellis (commit), and others tweeting lots of pictures of the stadium and wearing VT uniforms. Pretty cool stuff, and seems like the buzz in recruiting we've had this year has continued well into this next class.

Eh, actually it's not wrong. The phrase in my signature is in regards to the movie Tombstone. I've heard the debate before, and it usually comes back to what's in the script and on the merchandise. That would be "I'm your huckleberry"
I also read thru the script, however it doesn't mean they didn't get it wrong as well. Val Kilmer may be the only person who can say for sure what he said. Huckleberry or Huckle Bearer. I personally think Huckle Bearer is much more Doc Holiday. "I'll carry you to your grave". Just sounds bad ass. Everybody thinks he says Huckleberry because of his thick Louisiana accent. Debate is good.

Kearney, who may not be "4 stars" but is considered one of top LB's in the state by media down there.
Had to assume that's who he was talking about. Never heard any mention of him at DE and ya definitely isn't a 4 star per any of the services. He's on campus early though so we'll find out what he can do soon.

the numbers always work out. On the note with Brini looked like he had a great time at USF OV. He is a pro at the twitter game but i don't see him leaving Florida and if he does it's probably Oregon.
I also think he isn't as good as he is built up to be.

To my knowledge, extensions aren't supported on mobiles so that's an area that I have to acknowledge GIFs can be particularly annoying. I personally don't know of a way to stop them autoplaying on a mobile browser but I'd be shocked if there isn't some way of doing it

He is buddies with 3/4* ATH Caleb Farley who is recruiting him hard
Dax is like Hunter. He's as Hokie as you can be without committing. Unfortunately we have to wait a lot longer to get his decision.
Seriously though 247 reported that this is his 10th visit to the good guys (and evidently another good one).
I just wish he was a 2017 kid so we wouldn't have to worry about holding this level of interest with him for another year.

Thanks for putting this list together. Just dreaming, but Teradja Mitchell, Dax Hollifield, and Keshon Artis would be quite the linebacker line up. Also, I haven't watched his film, but if Nigel Fitzgerald is really a 6' 5" WR, that could be interesting.

Terajda Mitchell didn't make the trip to Blacksburg. We pretty much have little to no chance of getting him, unfortunately. Most likely OOS bound.
Seems like he's pretty high on FSU. I'm going to puke my guts out if I see another top VA recruit heading there. All these VA guys on a defense that has drastically underperformed given its talent level. When will these guys realize that you will put up crazy numbers in Bud's defense and have just the same shot at the NFL going to VT. Still feeling good about LB with Proctor, Kearney, and hopefully Dax and Artis next year if Mitchell is out of the picture.
When we can prove it? Ken and Tim are the only high caliber recruits that could show that (and Ken isn't looking likely). Until we start getting some non DBs in the first three rounds, FSU has the proof.
Tremaine, Settle, and Walker are our best bets in the near future for non-DB defensive draft picks. I could also see a Trevon Hill getting drafted after a few good seasons, but we haven't really seen enough of him to be sure.
We've had tons of successful players in the front 7 on Bud's defense over the years; however, few have had the desired NFL measureables to make it at the next level. We've traditionally played an undersized defense focused on fast twitch and speed because we have missed on the top guys who have the elite combination of speed and size at their position. The top-rated guys will have tons of success in Bud's defense and the NFL size to be a high draft pick. The recruits just have to start coming here instead of thinking that FSU and other schools just magically have more NFL pull than we do.
I think you're right about this, but it's easier to sell a list of front 7 players currently in the NFL/drafted in last 15 years than it is to sell them on this explanation.
It all comes back to recruiting. I think we're already seeing the repairing of our image and damaged relationships in the 757 and elsewhere in state. We've got guys in the next few years who have a great chance of being high draft picks, so let's see if we can start to change this narrative.
James Anderson and Jason Worilds come to mind. Both high draft picks (2nd and 3rd) and very successful in the NFL. Neither are Kam Chancellor level for recruiting, but those are super rare.
well thats the point. Ken and Tim are the only guys we have that were top 200 recruits. Theyre the guys that we have to prove we can turn a blue chip into an NFL player. Otherwise FSU has the proof that we don't.
I think Tremaine is the player that can break through and be a 1st rndr in the 2018 draft. The kid has the measureables and the skills to dominate as a ILB........

Anyone heard anything about 2018 WRs James, Mitchell, Dillon Spalding, or Armani Chatman? All highly rated recruits that we seem to have a shot at according to 247. Good range in heights. It just gives me the warm and fuzzies when I see them all together on the 247 page with Shaquon Anderson-Butts.
Chatman seems very Pro-VT on Twitter, that's a good sign obviously. I don't believe he visited yesterday though. As far as James Mitchell, it'll be a 3 horse race between VT, Tennessee, and Clemson. I think we end up landing him. I haven't heard anything regarding Spalding. Seems like 247's got him coming to VT, fwiw.
Heard through the grapevine that Fuente will be at a basketball game this week to visit with Mitchell. Buzz is that he likes VT but it seems wide open at this point.
Hopefully Clemson's absurd WR recruiting will backfire on them for a guy like Mitchell.

They are putting some miles on the plane and cars. THIS IS WHY MONEY IS IMPORTANT IN THE RECRUITING GAME. Having someone set this up for the coaches, paying for travel, and having behind the scenes people to set up and learn details of the recruit for the coaches.
Cantor, Guerry, and Bartelstein are all great detail people.
I once was told at a Hokie club event by a local HS coach that One of our VT coaches showed up to a kids house and got the mom's name wrong....
Kid was a Vt lean right up until that night.

Definitely not a good impression going into a recruit's home, but that's kind of a lame reason to go from seriously considering a school to crossing them off of the list. Coaches literally have an entire roster of current players' families they keep in touch with, then add on tons and tons of recruits, a lot of which won't even come to school there. I can understand being slightly disappointed by that, but to drop that school completely is a little strange. Wouldn't be surprised if that's another little anecdote fueled by negative recruiting from a kid who maybe really was never coming here at all.

Can't remember where I read it, on one of the boards a while back, but someone was saying Kevin Jones once told a story about his recruitment at a Hokie Club event. Apparently Joe Pa took a dump and clogged up the toilet at his house, then came out of the restroom and abruptly ended the visit and left, the Joneses then finding the reason shortly thereafter. I was particularly disturbed by the reports coming out after he was dismissed and his health began to decline. To paraphrase, he was devasted that all he had worked for and built with Penn State football was gone. Literally the most sickening college sports scandal ever with countless victims of sexual abuse, and all you're worried about is your "legacy" and some football games. Don't like to speak ill of the deceased, but that right there showed me everything about his so called character.
What happened was terrible an unforgivable but anyone would be devastated if as they come to the end of their life they watched everything they had worked their whole life for be destroyed.
In that case, maybe he shouldn't have knowingly kept a pedophile on his staff for 40 years during which time JoePa was informed of individual rape accusations at least 3 times, and the only response he had was to pressure the alleged victims to keep their mouths shut for the good of the program.
But you're right, we should feel bad for him that his legacy was tarnished when it all came to light.
I think we need to stop discussing this. This isn't the first time a thread has been hijacked by the Paterno tangent which is neither funny nor relevant. I don't think any decisions have been made on redshirts this year. With questions at WR, it will be WIDE open in spring and fall camps.

I'm very aware of this, but you can't have them on the field at the same time, so it is very odd to have two #5's on (likely) offense and not only that, they will (likely) play the same position. It's easy to get away with Evans and Ekanem, they will never be on the field at the same time. Usually the only issues with the multiple numbers are on special teams. This is more odd than just having two players with the same number on the team.
They're using their high school numbers. He won't be #5.

Speed, Dazz, Hunter, Capehart, Smith and maybe Watt is a very good DB class.
Capheart is listed as a WR. Is he expected to be a CB in college?
Some keep saying he's destined for DB, but I'll believe it when I see it. Despite the glut of underclass talent we have at WR, we don't really have the high ceiling WR that someone like Capehart would present. Put him out there and have Fuente et al squeeze the talent out of him, and he could shine and cement the reputation of the high powered VT offense that we saw this year down the line.
While I don't doubt that he could be a great DB, I almost feel like we would be more than fine without Capehart there. With the DL we're building, and the potential we could have coming in at LB the next couple years (coughDaxcough), assuming we land Hunter and the others we're currently projected, Capehart's contributions should be more valuable to the team as a TD grabbing wideout than a lockdown DB.
I agree. I have a feeling that he could contribute this fall at WR...similar to Royal and Ford.

Farley has a much higher ceiling at WR.

fwiw have seen comments from people watching cape play in person and he has questionable hands, which may be why some of the speculation to DB has come about.
I'm most excited about Farley's potential at wideout. Size, speed and hands. He just hasn't had the reps to build up the rankings at WR.
After that, Savoy looks very polished to me, a very similar player to Phillips coming out of HS.
Finally, Pimpleton will be something Fuente hasn't had yet, a waterbug on end arounds and screens that will make every defense account for him.
The class above them has Deablo, Kumah and Patterson, all big-bodied guys to compete to fill that Bucky role. If any of them can high point a ball, we will be able to fill that spot quickly.
Capehart may be a polished WR, we'll see. I don't know, just going by the multiple times we have seen Capehart listed as an Athlete with discussions about DB.

I'm just wondering because I'm sure you could find just as good of rugby players in New Zealand, South Africa, England, and France but they all seem to be from Australia.

A lot of the time "Rugby punters" actually played Australian rules football which is like the bastard lovechild of American football and rugby
In Australia they have schools for punting and kicking designed to send kids here for college.
a few reasons:
1) Australians can get both Aus govt aid and US student loans to got to school in America.
2) there are kicking schools in Australia, primarily for Aussie Rules Footy, and junior leagues. Now that there has been some success stories there are programs for young kids that are not necessarily great Aussie Rules players but great kickers to learn how to punt a football. then they usually find some connection either family, friend or coach to a school in USA.
conversely we can get US aid to attend school in Australia, which is what I did to get a master's degree there. of course the currency exchange was 2 Aus dollars to 1 US Dollar then so it was half priced. Student aid went a LOOONG way then.

That's every recruit. Every player from unranked to 5 star could be a bust or superstar. You rely on the coaches on the team to identify talent and recruit said talent.
While every recruit is uncertain transitioning from HS to college, not every recruit only has 2-3 years experience of playing organized football.
True but that's why we have to trust the evaluation of our coaches until it's proven wrong. Both staffs at Tech have been great at identifying talented players young and offering them before they became stars. The issue has been landing them under Beamer. Can Fuente change that we shall see.

I just keep thinking back to all the whistling emojis the 247 insiders posted on every Josh Sweat thread a couple years back. Then talked about "We had him until the end" and "Fisher swooped in late" and of course "Josh isn't the type of kid to lead us along. It was a hard decision for him". I'm optimistic but nothing is a given in recruiting.

Looking back, I can't really blame him for going the route of FSU, sadly. They look to be a downright scary team next year and very well could win the National Title, and if they do he'll be a major piece of that puzzle. Had he come here, essentially right after he stepped foot on campus, Beamer retired. Yes, we hit a home run with Fuente, especially in keeping Foster around, but there was absolutely no way for any recruit to know we'd be able to do that at that time. Between the legitimate uncertainty on our staff and the high level of stability that FSU was showing, I can't fault him for his decision.
That being said, I can't really say that anymore. Our coaching uncertainty is completely behind us, and we showed legitimate potential to be a power player in football again this past season. If Sweat were a recruit in this current class, I'm willing to bet things would turn out differently.

Rivers and Proctor would give us two of the top 15 OLBs in this recruiting class. We haven't had a 4 star LB recruit (that played) since Vince Hall.

I'm getting antsy, but also really excited for all of the possibilities surrounding our recruiting. I started following recruiting in '09 and this seems like the most legitimate hype I have seen. If we can consistently recruit in the 10-20 range with quality coaches and trainers, I think we have a good chance to make big waves not only in the ACC, but on the national scene.
I haven't been this excited for VT recruiting since, well, forever.
So it's been a few years since I followed vt FB recruiting intently as now but who is the Guerry guy we all get excited to see tweet?

Several of the early enrollees count towards the 2016 class, NOT the 2017 class.
This class is going to be HUGE in terms of impact AND sheer numbers.
Based on the amount of early enrollees we can take 9 more commits in this class after Rivers' commitment

I hate to put a damper on all the celebrations today, but I just noticed Jalen Holston has an OV to Minnesota scheduled for the 27th. Anyone know if there's a cause for concern there? Hopefully Holston isn't too serious about rowing the boat with PJ Fleck.......

Some Recruiting sites have Devon Hunter as the TOP in state recruit. I personally think it's a nod towards Hunter. But I hope I'm wrong and it's A Laborn related Tweet.

My buddy just met Robert Porcher and his mom in the Roanoke airport earlier today. Said his mom was wearing a VT hat and he had a great visit. Probably just small talk but still could be a good sign.
