This is good for teams who have donors willing to pump money into the program for recruiting. Let's hope the Hokie Club contributions increase to a lot more than we've got now.
This just changes when a recruit can go on an OV as far as I can tell. Currently they have to wait until senior year. With this change they can go spring & summer. Shouldn't change $$ since its money already earmarked for senior year.
I'm assuming this is going to create more total official visits overall. Which will cost more money.

Its not for more official visits, it just lets rising seniors take them over the summer instead of being forced to do so during their senior season.

Also important to note, the Summer signing day that was proposed was rejected today. The December signing day is still a possibility.
I don't believe he's suggesting that an individual player will get more OVs, but rather stating that allowing players to take earlier OVs may lead to schools casting a wider net and inviting more players to take an OV. Thus schools may wind up spending more money.
This was my exact line of thinking. I will reiterate though that I was just speculating.
Junior visits are a great thing especially with the talent evaluators that Tech has.
I think with these changes, you'll see a push to sign the higher ranked kids sooner. It will make for some interesting strategic changes (and high blood pressure).
You might not see as many offer letters out to lower ranked until later in their senior years I would think.
Yep and o boy look out for the senior slump, *cough Crosby cough *, offer a kid, he signs and then takes the year off.
I'd think they would still have to compete until the LOI day, right? That will be in December. If they slack off during their senior year then their offer would get pulled I'd imagine.

Yep but that's before a lot of he outside camps happen where new evaluations are done. Why some kids are being upgraded and downgraded even now.

Should also note that a related reform with serious amounts of support to move forward is the addition of a 10th Assistant Coach.
Which would be both a good opportunity to spread the workload around for recruiting, I also wonder if we see a continuation of more schools having a full time ST Coordinator? However it could also let schools willing or able to spend more to lock down more coaching talent longer as well, however I think in total its a good idea since everyone still has the same limit.
I think the biggest part would be an earlier signing period.
I agree with the NCAA with. Or having it in April. That's too early and how many kids would be locked into a school after they change their minds. I do like a dec period that they are looking at though.
I was watching pepole on espn discuss this the other day and said it mostly hurt the big closers. So Urban Meyer and Nick Saban and those types who are able to flip recruits at the last minute may decrease some. However another point they mentioned was coaches putting pressure on kids to sign in dec to lock them up so they can focus on just a few. Obviously the kids have the choice as to when to sign but it's a fine line the coaches would have to walk.
A good thing is that you have kids who sign in December you can then focus more on a few recruits left to sign as opposed to still talking to everyone to make sure they don't get poached by another team.
Not sure how this will effect VT in recruiting yet.
