Foster and Fuente relationship the first year, RTD

http://www.richmond.com/sports/college/schools/virginia-tech/article_c4d...

"I can't thank Coach Fuente and (AD Whit Babcock) enough for having confidence in me and wanting me to be a part of this thing," Foster said. "I wanted to be here. I really did. And I can't thank them enough for them wanting me here."

It would be hard to imagine what this season would have looked like if Fuente couldn't convince Bud to stay. The two separate staffs have seemed to work well together and the results speak for themselves. Looking forward to at least 3 more season with them all together.

Proud to have a class act like Bud Foster on staff. I would love for him to stay forever, but if he has the opportunity to live his dream as a head coach at a school he likes, I'd be happy for him.

I look forward to more than three more seasons with them all together.

Let's make that a priority.

We all know, and they know, that they've got something very special here. Let's not jinx it by constantly wondering how it can get screwed up.

If every assistant is still at Tech in three years I will be disappointed. Fuente is going to have an awesome coaching tree by the time he is done. Other schools will want to hire his assistants away to try and recreate that magic formula on offense.

If Bud leaves before they get a national championship, I'm going to be disappointed.

Shouldn't we at least see where this is going first?

I'm talking. ENTIRE coaching staff. I think Bud stays until he retires. As in one of: Wiggins, Scott, Corn, etc will be hired away and that's a good thing.

I'm talking about Whit, Bud and Fuente. The article was about Bud.

And I said this

The two separate staffs have seemed to work well together and the results speak for themselves. Looking forward to at least 3 more season with them all together.

I added commentary about the two staffs. To expand on the article to create discussion.

Sorry. It wasn't clear to me.

The article is about Bud, and has an entire paragraph about someone luring him away.

For me this is like when I'm having morning coffee, thinking about how great a day it is, and someone says "You know we're only dust in the wind."

Corn's gonna get a head job somewhere before long. You don't bring this kind of instant offensive success to a program that has struggled in offense for so long without getting noticed. The only question is how good of a job is he going to wait for. I can see Fuente's assistants approaching Beameresque levels of loyalty, where it's not just going to be a job offer, but the right job offer that pulls them away.

I think it will take a really good job but Beamer staff loyalty is unheard of in modern coaching. I think Bud, Wiles and maybe Shibest are only coaches who stick around each other the rest would leave for a promotion at the right school.

I'd like to think that VT is the right job, and they stay long enough to stick the landing.

To be clear, I mean Corn's gonna get a HC gig somewhere. I don't think he leaves for another OC position unless it's in the NFL.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.

It's not that I don't disagree nor believe he is deserving, but Corn seems like he likes NOT being the head cheese. He seems to like being the guy that doesn't speak to press much, focusing mostly on game planning and coaching. idk, could be way off on that one. Just a feeling.

I think Fuente is more like Beamer than we all suspect, in that he has a pool of coaches that want to work together to achieve success. I think we just might see them stay together longer than expected. Fuente, Corn, Vice, Wiggins, Shibest and Scott seem like a package deal.

or I could be WAY off.

I hope Corn chooses to stick around a while.

This seems like a great team of people.

I kind of get that feeling too. Maybe Corn leaves and maybe he doesn't, but I see Shibest and Scott sticking around awhile. Vice, too, if his OLines don't fall off and he forces Fuente's hand. Admittedly, there might be some bias in there because I'm not sold on Vice the coach.

First year in a while that Foster hasn't been rumored to be going somewhere.

Shhhhhh!!!!!! Don't you jinx us.

Thankful for that brilliant "ALMOST AN AGGIE" (newspaper headline) annuity based contract that Whit worked out for Bud and then the ensuing respect Whit showed Bud during the hiring process. Obviously Fuente and Foster truly meshing still had to happen, and then it became apparent pretty quickly that they would. So much respect!

I wouldn't want to be the guy that doesn't mesh with CBF...holy smokes!

And there's a chance that Steve Sobczak, not currently with the team, could return in the fall.

*raises eyebrow* So what do we know about this situation?

Where is that screen grab of the UVA fan predicting we would finish last in our division because Foster and Fuente couldn't get along?

Y'all down vote this, but I'm about to speak that dam truth! That fancy Zima drinker who claimed we'd finish last in the coastal division needs to stick to drinking those Zimas!

Let's Go

HOKIES

The pairing was great and, aside from a certain game way up north, it seemed like all season one side of the ball could hold on long enough for the other to get itself together. The offense was terrible in the bowl game and the defense kept giving them opportunities and slammed the door closed in the second half. Against Clemson the offense kept putting points up to give the defense some rest and time to game plan from the sidelines. The pairing was really excellent and should only get better with the way the recruiting class is shaping up.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

EDIT: Wrong thread

Bud's about as class of an act as you can get for an assistant coach of any type, and it's obvious he loves being a Hokie, and wants to see this whole thing through to a Natty C (or more) before he hangs it up. We're so lucky to have him, and I hope he retires a Hokie. It would only make sense to me.

Just curious, what's more than a national championship?

I think he means more than one.
