This kid was originally committed to UF, but during a visit to anOSU, was arrested for marijuana possession. If this is true, how does everyone feel about the pursuit? It was enough for UF of all places to shut down his recruitment, but I think I'm OK if we want to reach out and make him a Hokie.

From a overall philosophical standpoint, I literally give zero fucks about players smoking weed.
But when you sign your scholarship papers, you make a promise to follow the rules that VT sets (which I'm assuming includes no drug use). As long as he's willing to follow those rules, I don't see a problem with this.
Let's just hope that we don't need to call in Matt Foley because he's been using his scholarship papers for rolling doobies.

Speaking of which, what a big deal it ended up being that they only ended up getting a one game suspension. They both got some quality reps when the 1's went down this season. I imagine that probably made the difference for some of those late season close wins.

As a football player I want him. As a recruit, I am a bit weary, heard lots of negative rumors surrounding him beyond this recent pot issue. That said, I believe in giving the benefit of the doubt and I assume some of the negative things that have resulted in many schools backing off has been something of a positive shock to the system.
Doesn't matter what I feel.
In Fuente I trust.
It's a legitimate red flag but that's why coaches get to know these guys.

It's actual this "early signing" period everyone keeps begging for. Anyone can sign after this, there's just no guarantee there's a space left on the team, or that someone who has committed to your school will attend even if you've saved them space. /s, mostly
People have gone beyond NSD before. Usually it's more prominent recruits because schools will hold a spot for them. The LOI's gives the recruit the opportunity to lock themselves into a scholarship. If a lower ranked recruit holds out, the school he wanted to go to might fill up and will no longer be able to accept his LOI with a scholarship.
NSD is simply the first day that you can sign that LOI. It's not unheard of for recruits to sign later. Zion DeBose is waiting a couple extra days this week so he can announce on his mom's birthday, IIRC.

But an Official Visit is a job interview. There is a time and place for everything.
It's not a job interview. In a job interview you are courting an employer. Here they are courting him, so the comparison is very different. Also the interview lasts an hour. Or an afternoon, and doesn't include your personal life. And sometimes kids will be kids.
An official visit is a series of social vignettes the host school is putting a kid thru to see how they respond. Saturday night after midnight, the kid is still very much on his job interview. The school assigns hosts who are assessing as much as entertaining.
Same as a job interview, both parties are checking each other out.
When your career is on the line, stay sober.
Almost identical to a grad school interview. They usually last two days and are a mix of professional and social settings. They are watching everything you do, and the final assessment is made based on how you handled yourself during the formal interviews with faculty (could you talk about your research, were you enthusiastic and knowledgeable, etc) and how you handled the catered dinner at the department chair's house the second night (how you acted, did you drink too much, etc.)

He has two OV's remaining and NSD isn't the actual last day to sign. It actually marks the first day you can sign your LOI.
IMO this is the kind of talent our staff needs to take a flier on. The OSU's, Ole Miss's, Oklahoma's can all afford to pull their offers because 4* receivers like this are interested in them all the time and giving up on one guy isn't a huge deal to them. Simply not the case with us.
He could very well fuck up and be on his way out of here in a year but he looks like he also has the talent to make an Isaiah Ford-esque immediate impact. If that kind of player is at a point where they are giving our staff the time of day they need to jump on it and trust their ability to straighten him out, and it sounds like they are.
