Got a bunch of highly ranked commits during one weekend, all from Louisiana. IIRC one of the coaches has ties to the area, but when you see frickin' KANSAS pulling in lots of stars, something doesn't smell right.

I get your point it's valid I just don't like seeing fibs being spread without anything to back it wouldn't want the country saying we're shady if we pulled off a big time recruiting class cause it's not normal for us
I understand where you're coming from and I agree to an extent but there's also a huge difference between a team that hovers in the 20-30 range suddenly jumping after making a new hire and having a successful season and a team like KANSAS suddenly jumping to the top.
This is will be Beaty's third season there and in the past two they've gone 0-12 and 2-10. I don't like spreading rumors without evidence either but I find it incredibly hard to believe that hiring a new Running Backs coach is the miracle behind their recruiting success this year. Kansas is still Kansas.
Which makes it that much worse that they can claim an active win streak against us.
It's not a streak until it's 2, I always say.
Kansas landed a handful of three stars and one four star, and has at least played in an orange bowl in the past decade.
Ole Miss had a single 9 win season in 30 years, then magically lands three recruits that are #1 at their position. I don't think Kansas having a good weekend can be compared to Ole Miss's 2013 recruiting class.

Call me naive, but I just don't believe that. When you're king of the hill and know that everybody would love to knock you down, I think you would be forced to be even more careful. Now, anything that happens from boosters outside the program is a little different, and I think that could occur anywhere.

The coaches all encourage it, they just don't have direct knowledge of it. I'd be stunned if we weren't paying people. It only matters if you get caught, and as long as you're not being obvious about it you'll be fine. Think of it like driving on the highway, most people are going over the speed limit, say 70-75 in a 65 (us/most schools). The person thats going to get pulled over is the one going 100 in a 65 (Ole Miss).
I would be stunned, because of people have enough money to pay players under the table why the hell are they not donating to the school above the table?
Money given straight to a player is always going to be significantly more effective than money given to an athletics department.
You look at programs that have had allegations of large amounts of money given to players ALSO have large amounts of people giving large amounts of money to the school. Tech doesn't have that. Do I think there is small amounts of things given to players, food, small amount of cash yes. Do I think someone is giving tens or hundreds of thousand to players/recruits no because we don't have that kind of fanbase support.

Yet that school has a guy giving 50,000 a year. Just look at how much Ole Miss donations went up in the year before the allegations started and in subsequent years. Also the guy who is giving money under the table if he isn't giving above the table he isn't going to games? Because I don't believe that at all. You have lots of money you want quality seats, you want quality seats you have to give money.
Or Stubhub. My Dad has been keeping an eye on the ticket prices available around him, and it seems that he could get similar seats on Stubhub for a fraction of what he pays for the seats he has, including the donation. He mentioned to me that he's considering either eliminating or significantly reducing his contribution to the Hokie Club and instead just buying tickets for a few games each year, since this past season was a little rough being the first season after Mom passed. Personally I hope he keeps the season tickets, so I can drive down once or twice a season for games and so that he keeps his streak alive (only about 15 years, but still significant), but I can't really blame him.
People with disposable 25K to give to recruits are not looking st stubhub for random tickets to a few games.
Even if you went to all the games, it might be cheaper to get tickets on Stubhub, depending on where your seats are and how much you donate to get them. Also possibly depending on the opponent.
Point is, there are other ways to get good seats other than just throwing tons of money at the athletics department. Maybe you have friends that all get tickets as a group, on one person's Hokie Club contributions. Any number of possibilities.
But you don't get to know the people around you if you move every week.
Not to mention if you have 25k sitting around every season you want to sit either close enough o talk to the team or inside out of the weather.
I remember the temple game in 98 and yelling at Al Clark after yet another bad play from a friends seat and he turned and looked as us. You know those are close seats.
Except the bagmen aren't publicly close to the team. If they were it would all fall apart.
Point is, there are some who are happy to spend their money to be close to the team publicly, and there are others who are happy to spend their money to be even closer to the team behind the scenes.
Except Ole Miss is getting a tryout to be a nascar driver because they did that. The benefit outweighed the punishment they'll receive
