So when I did my daily check of ESPN about VT basketball this morning, I learned that according to them we are a lock for the big dance! But it really seems like they are trying to troll us now.
Fly those weird shades of purple and orange high and proud, Hokies fans. The time has come

Are they trying to throw shade? Purple and orange? Are we Clemson? Add this to the list of why I hate and avoid ESPN.
This is just dumb. The school's official shade of maroon has an RGB value of 102,0,0. Purple is an intermediate color between red and violet, meaning any shade of purple must contain a value > 0 in blue. Maroon is inarguably a shade of red.
Dumbass ESPN.
That's incorrect. Our official color is PMS 208, which is RGB 142, 35, 68. What you're referring to is our WEB color guide, which is a slightly different color from our official branded color. The official color is definitely purple-ish, though not to the extent that one might call it purple overall.

Interesting that they wouldn't use the official color as the official web color.
The argument remains (though slightly modified) that this is also not a shade of purple, because it has a G value > 0. Purple is an intermediate color between red (255,0,0) and violet (127,0,255). Any shade between those two has to have a G value of 0.
However, given that our official color has a R and B value with a very low G value, I guess I could see how someone might interpret it as purplish.
Personally, I've always thought of maroon as more of a redish or rusty brown. I've heard it called "purplish" before but I don't see it myself.
Edit: maybe the people who think maroon is "purple" are color blind? People who are color blind often confuse red with green, so maybe to them maroon looks purple since the red tone doesn't stick out to them?
I'm not a doctor, but this wouldn't make sense to me as R-G color-blind people generally confuse purple with blue.
Lol PMS
This definitely is a little purpleish
Didn't we (meaning TKP, not you and me specifically) have a conversation a couple years back where it was decided that the maroon in our uniforms is definitely not the official school color?
Maybe you should be the one to tell Kam Chancellor he was wearing purple.
Who the hell is "Eamonn Brennan" anyway
I thought it was hilarious, lighten up.
Not that I think it will happen, but you're telling me if we were to lose to Wake and our first ACCT game by 20+, the committee wouldn't find a way to keep us out, especially given their history with us?
No, I still don't believe that. We're in very good position but still need to close this.
I won't believe it until I see it on the screen tomorrow. There's no such thing as being a lock.
This just makes me miss Halfwits and Wagers.
A week from tomorrow?
Yeah, derp. Selection Sunday is not today. This marathon of hype and waiting had me forget the ACC tourney.
Some bobbleheads saying 7 ACC teams in. That leaves us out. We will not be chosen ahead of Miami, Syracuse or Wake Forest.
Last time I checked, the winner of the ACC tourney automatically gets in, right? So, um, yeah, let's just do that and guarantee our spot.
Now automatic I like. Takes us out of the selection committee's hands and directly into a bracket slot.
What's your analysis that puts Wake in ahead of us?
Because I literally have not seen one bracket that has VT behind WF. Of the 108 brackets on bracketmattix, only this one has WF and VT on the same line (and still has VT up by four slots).
None have VT behind SU. VT is in all 108 brackets, SU only 85.
No analysis. Key word is "chosen". Bubble teams are not analyzed. They are chosen by the committee for the most part on their basketball history, tradition and brand name.
Do you really think if we lose to WF again we will be chosen ahead of them?
Keep winning we are in. Lose our next game it's floor pacing time again.
Whatever happens, a great season, a great team fun to watch, full of heart and hustle. I love Tech bb. I watched Chris Smith, Louie Mills, Bob Ayersman and all those fellows play in War Memorial Gymnasium. Any other TKPers remember those days?
The committee (read: CBS) has traditionally loved Buzz. He was overseeded every year at Marquette then overperformed those seeds. When he left Marquette, CBS offered him a commenting gig for March Madness.
I know there is a lot of tin-foil-hat-VT-basketball stuff going on right now, but keep in mind, a lot of a perception of a program is the perception of their coach.
I love the heart and grit of this team, but I think we're just too depleted right now to expect us to outperform any expectation. I'd love to get that banner in Cassel regardless
Did you think that before Saturday? We won 4 of our last 6 games and were competitive in the 2 losses... I don't think we are "depleted."
Morons..............I love it!
And all the color blind Hokies in the land wept, for we will never know what our colors look like!
Anybody else a little upset that we get the winner of Wake/BC and then FSU? Then again, I kind of want a rematch against Wake if we get actually neutral referees.
The alternatives were NC State/Clemson and Louisville or Georgia Tech/Pitt and Notre Dame. It's the ACC, all of the routes to the semis were going to suck. I'm just glad we avoided the 8/9 line, so we get to play a team on short rest and won't get boat raced by UNC.
