Glad to see Trey participating, always a hokie! Good luck to all!
I didnt realize that Trey broke his foot and missed most of the season at Maryland. Looks like he got in their first five games and then missed the rest of the season. Tough break.
cool to see us welcome Trey back for something like this. Once a hokie, always a hokie.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: DO Not look up "Zootopia Flash" into gif search!! I could not exit fast enough.
so do you want us to search it or not?
Well now you've just peaked my curiosity instead
He walked by me at the Belk Bowl.
Good to see guys like Corey Marshall and Deon Clarke coming back too. Knowles has been gone awhile though, that's interesting.

Shit, when the hell did that happen?
The Ides of March always come out of nowhere.

shanksshivs. This comment brought to you by the word "pedantic".
Shiv is also slang.
No, Shiv works in the office right down the hall from me
Probably a spy
Super Heavy Infantry Vehicle?
The politically correct term is "Big Boned Infantry" and they use the same vehicles as everyone else.
VT Athletics is live streaming some of the vertical and broad jumps right now.
Breaking: Bucky Hodges does the bunny hop. Breaks school record for vertical jump.
Got a link to the stream?
Facebook -> VT Athletics. They were doing QBs and RBs a little while back.
The guy filming this couldn't raise the camera like 2 inches?
Evans looked good passing but he looked pissed during all the measurements and didn't talk to media afterwards.
Any idea why?
hmmm are we sure we didn't dodge a bullet with him leaving early?
Dodge a bullet? The kid played his nuts off and is a solid Hokie. Where is this coming from?
yes he was and I will always be thankful and I don't mind being wrong about his opinion.
But with his comments lately and attitude, I worry about how he would handle not having 2 top tier draft picks to throw to anymore if he would have stayed. I mean, great guy but I just wonder where his head is at knowing, if he cracks under this pressure how will he handle the NFL
what comments are you referring to?
and is he really cracking under pressure? most athletes and coaches hate talking to the media. fuente practically uses the same 10 or so phrases when talking to the media and hates revealing anything; pretty sure he only talks to the media because he has to.
Nevermind ! I see I'm going down a wrong road.
Go Hokies
while i disagree overall, i wasn't trying to be argumentative, i was just curious if he had spoken to media or something, since bitter hadn't posted anything that i had seen.
And I was also just legitimately curious as to whether something happened today to upset him. I am not trying to second guess his decision - just curious as to what actually happened.
If he's under no obligation to talk to the media then he can do what he wants.
There's no value in speculating on this.
I'm saying this because I just don't give a s***.
He got a bit of bad press and a lot of people are doubting him. Every question there would have been "Do you think you mad the right choice?" and there is nothing positive to gain being in that position.
He might want to invest hiring this guy as his media consultant:
This. Did you see all the hokie fans with underhanded congratulatory (and some not congratulatory at all) tweets/ comments after he declared? As a kind of journeyman and confident player he is, I can see why he doesn't feel the need to give it energy. He knows what is public opinion and reads the press, I'm sure. 90% percent of the questions would be and probably wants to focus on the next chapter of trying to make it in his career.
He also went to Zaxby's after his pro day today. My roommate works there and served him lol
Well now we really know something is wrong.
Ford posted a 4.52 40 yd and Chuck was a 4.51.
Bitter also tweeted that Ford is up to 193 Lbs and 3.5% body fat.
Damn. Sounds like his pre-draft tune-up went well.
beat you by 13 seconds fly!
Bastard. That damn Ford pun took me 13 seconds to think up!
That bodyfat percentage figure is overblown or fabricated. I'm not singling you out for posting what Bitter said. I just get bugged that people throw around low figures like that when talking about athletes all the time.
Professional bodybuilders compete at between 2-4% and only maintain that for a day or two around competition. 4-6% is generally accepted as the minimum long term threshold for adult males.
So we're splitting hairs over .5% that may have just been shitty calipers or someone making his stats sound more impressive? Hell, if he's at 6% I'd still be ecstatic. Dude has bulked up like crazy.
I'm as happy as anyone that he's bulked up and kept a lean frame. I'm just tired of people saying "So and so checked it at whatever unreal bodyfat percentage".
I just chose to reply to your post to voice how I feel about it. Again, nothing against you.
Here's some literature by Tech's own Michelle Rockwell on actual bodyfat percentage figures for athletes at the NCAA level: http://www.ncaa.org/health-and-safety/sport-science-institute/body-composition-what-are-athletes-made
I gotcha. I always take every measurable with a grain of salt when it comes to sports. Bucky being 6' 18" for example.
That link you sent however had a range of body fat % at the NFL combine in a bodpod between 3.7 and 19.4, meaning Ford's reported number is well within a statistically acceptable range. Dude is ripped right now. If this was done with a caliper test, it is likely a little fucky. Tech does own a bodpod however, and unless they are straight up falsifying numbers, it's hard to argue with those things.
Yeah, that doesn't sound right at all. They must have flipped the feet and inches numbers.
Ford has really bulked up, so that 40 isn't half bad. With his hands and route running, he should be an elite WR prospect. If he drops to the 3rd round, whoever gets him is getting a steal.
I take those with a grain of salt. Ford ran a 4.61s 40yard dash at the combine. I'm inclined to take combine number over VT numbers.
Those are NFL scouts times FYI, per Thomas Guerry.
That's just the difference between hand timed and laser timed.
someone correct me if I've got this wrong, but there's a few differences that lead to hand times being faster.
laser timed = clock starts automatically when tone sounds, and thus the overall time includes the player's reaction time.
hand timed = started manually when the player moves, so player reaction time is left out. Also consider the timer's reaction time to the player moving isn't quite cancelled out by the timer's reaction to seeing the player crossing the finish line, because the timer can see that coming and anticipate it.
As a result you end up with a 0.08 - 0.15 difference in 40 time for the same run.
I don't think there is a tone at the combine is there. I thought the players went on their own once given the all clear. Reaction times on the stop watch are real though.
For sake of getting this out there, laser time isn't exclusive to the combine. My high school did 40's with laser time.
NFL Scouts: "What is Ford's 40 time"?
Stats guy "4.52 pro day; 4.61 at the combine".
NFL Scout: "So...a 4.61."
exactly. the 4.61 is what will matter because all the players there ran it in the exact same conditions. Some tracks/surfaces just run faster than others.
Yes and no. Scouts clearly look at pro days otherwise Mixon's time wouldn't matter. There is a reason scouts came and there is a reason Players will donprivate workouts for some scouts/teams.
They look at it as another data point, but again the larger picture is everyone that came to the combine ran under the exact same conditions. If someone was injured coming into the combine then they make pay more attention to a pro day sampling, but that wasn't the case with Ford.
Part of the appeal of pro-day is getting to put the players through individual drills and getting more 1 on 1 time with them.
This is getting a ton of discussion and I'm a little confused by it. As I've said before, If I could eyeball Ford as a 4.6 in college, so could NFL scouts. His straight line speed was never his greatest appeal, so him running right about where they expected, shouldn't really affect his draft stock.
Honestly, the time I was most surprised by was Trey Edmunds running a 4.47, especially given he has broken his tibia at VT and his foot at Maryland this past season. I knew the Edmunds were fast, I've seen several things that suggest that Terrell is one of, if not the fastest guy on the team, but I'm surprised Trey ran that well given what I saw over the last few years plus the injuries.
Trey wasn't much of a surprise to me dating back to his td run against Alabama. He's had a ton of injuries which has more impacted his lateral speed/agility moreso than his straight line speed imo. I think trey is still faster than Terrell, but it's probably close. What an athletic family...
TD run against Alabama was impressive, but I was moreso talking post-broken leg. He never really flashed that big play speed (that I've seen at least) since then. Will be interested to see what Terrell runs at the combine next year or the next, I'm fully expecting a sub 4.5.
And yes, that is a freakishly athletic family.
I'd expect to see some better vertical jump numbers, considering this is in Blacksburg. Jumping is in the water there.
So I didn't know the best place to put this so I figured I would put it here. Story time...
So yesterday evening I was at my local gym here in upstate SC when I notice a large man getting loose next to me that I didn't recognize. At a second glance I noticed that the large man was decked out in VT football gear. Naturally I went to say hey to him and ask if he played at Tech. When he turned to say hey to me I immediately recognized that I was working out next to Big Jon. I didn't want to bother him too much since he was in the middle of a workout but when he was done we chatted for about 15 minutes. I had forgotten that he was from the area where I currently live and he basically said that he was just in town for the week visiting family and that he is flying out to Arizona next week. Through my previous connections with VT athletics and especially the strength and conditioning program we spoke at length about Hilgart and all of the different changes that have come to the program (which he described as pretty extensive).
All in all it's always encouraging to get to interact with the players. After always watching the guys on TV and then talking about them so extensively on here it's always very humanizing to get to meet them in person. In our short conversation it was pretty clear that Jon is a really good kid who just loves playing the game of football.
Isn't Jon from Mauldin? That's super close to where I work.
Yea he went to Mauldin High. I live in South Greenville and my gym is in Simpsonville. His parents are members there so he is able to come in and work out this week.
