Believe that Indiana fired TB's sister in the past. It makes sense on paper, but likely never going to happen. Too many burned bridges, which is similar to why Fuente will likely never entertain the idea of Oklahoma.

I think Washington & LSU are the two likeliest landing spots - good infrastructure and support plus money to burn (especially in LSU's case - the SEC has been looking to increase its stature in basketball across the board with some of its more recent hires).
Also, look out to see if anything changes at Georgetown or DePaul.
JT3 is really feeling the heat from the fanbase, but having his dad's name plastered all over the program is making it tough for the administration to fire him. And while Leitao has only had two years on the job (for the second go-round at DePaul, no less), I think there's a much higher upside under Crean. They're also set to open a brand-new arena in Chicago next season, so it might be a good time to make the change for a splashy hire. Problem is, their AD is almost universally hated by the fans for making bad hire after bad hire so I have little confidence that move will happen. If I'm one of those schools though, Crean is a no-brainer.

Why would Buzz leave VT for Washington? Indiana, sure, but that program has their sights set higher than Buzz. Someone like Leonard Hamilton or Tony Bennett seems to be the kind of candidate they would want, where the coach has had proven success in both the ACC and Nationally.
I honestly don't see Buzz as a legit threat to leaving unless we have the kind of postseason success that would legitimately put him on the map for a power school. And should Buzz get us to that point, we'll be very well positioned to continue on after he's gone.

I think any blue chip program is going to want to see a coach prove himself with multiple deep tournament runs before they give him a chance. Those programs are simply judged at a much higher level than anything we are used to, and they are going to want to get a guy where they can have the confidence they will reach the Final Four in short order.
As much as I love Buzz, he hasn't proven this to be possible, yet, at least not at VT. While he did have success at Marquette, the argument could be made that the reason that was made possible was because of the success they had before him with Dwayne Wade and, ironically, Tom Crean, and Buzz wasn't able to sustain the success for long after he came in. We all know how much different our program is now vs where it was when he took over, but, to be frank, finishing the year in 7th in the conference and earning a 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament isn't going to cut it at a program like Indiana. They want a guy who is a proven contender who can consistently get his teams in the race for the conference and national title discussion, which is why guys like Hamilton and Bennett, who are at arguably lesser programs but having that kind of consistent success would be at or near the top of any list these schools go after.

I agree with the fact that Crean helped set the table for Buzz, but I disagree with the end of this statement.
Buzz coached for six seasons at Marquette. Let's presume the first 3 years of his run are most directly due to Tom Crean's recruits in the program - those were great years, with NCAAT wins in all three. But then you have to take into account the next two years, which are mostly full of Buzz's recruits, when they went to the Sweet 16 (again) and the Elite 8 in his 5th season.
While yes, his last season was his worst record as the head coach, he had plenty of success that could be attributed to his own prowess and not Crean's. The first five years of his Marquette career, they never won less than 22 games. The high water marks in wins for Marquette under Buzz came in Year 4 & 5 (27 and 26 respectively).
Sure, Year 6 was was disappointing 17-15, but then he bounced to VT right afterwards. That's hardly enough evidence to state that he wasn't able to sustain success following Crean. In fact, I'd say the evidence overwhelmingly supports the opposite viewpoint.

Honestly, I think the thing that might scare off blue-blood programs about Buzz is his career path. You can always say, "Well, Buzz must just like a challenge."
But in my opinion, a blue-blood may look at the way he left Marquette and think he's not cut out for all the behind-the-scenes nonsense that goes on at many of those places. Rumors of a power struggle at Marquette and the way he's basically given free reign with the program at VT (deservedly, I would add) might scare off some of those programs who have deep-pocketed donors that need egos stroked.
Buzz doesn't seem like he'd be up for that at all. Maybe he'd adapt, but his personality doesn't seem to fit the mold of a coach who's going to recruit elite players (since he always talks about OKGs), schmooze higher-ups and "play the game" that occurs at that echelon of college basketball. Maybe a lot of that opinion is formed by the circumstances at VT, and I'm way off base. But he's a weird dude and I'm not sure a blue-blood is willing to give a guy like that as much rope as he'll get in Blacksburg.

I think you are spot on. Buzz is not a Blue Blood Program type front runner. He's a junk yard underdog coach. Him at a blue blood program like IU just seems really out of place.

You might be right, I haven't seen Buzz mentioned anywhere on their lists (but he was barely mentioned on our list as well). Alford seems to be the hot name but many question that choice. Bennett and the Miller's are mentioned....maybe they could get Archie. I doubt Sean would give up AZ. Cronin, Mack, Collins seems to be good backup plans.
But as noted elsewhere, you may be the only admirer of Leonard Hamilton outside of his actual family.

Hamilton is 68. He has been at FSU for 15 years, where he's taken the Seminoles to the tournament 5 times, with a 303-195 record (average record 20.2-13). Career record 503-405. One regular season conference title, one conference tournament title career. Best NCAA tourney showing is two trips to the Sweet Sixteen. He has a 126-124 ACC record and in nine years at Miami his Big East record was 73-87.
His team this year is possibly the most loaded team in the country and IMO would be a national title contender if they were coached by almost anyone else. They have 3 first rounders and will probably have 2-4 more guys from this team drafted. But they've been inconsistent all year. The only reason Hamilton hasn't been fired for his mediocrity is that FSU, and Miami before that, don't care about their basketball programs and getting to the tournament every 3 or 4 years is enough.

We're fine, Buzz has stated Whit is a great boss to work for, and he's building something at VT still. This is a good job, Buzz has some good recruiting momentum going and I don't think he's going to restart somewhere else.

Just read an article on ESPN about potential hires at IU and Buzz wasn't even mentioned as a long shot. I agree that they have their eyes set a little higher I just want to keep programs like that from figuring out they should hire him for as long as possible. He's one hell of a coach.

If Littlepage takes a realistic look at the potential for their football team over the next 5 years he'll dump everything they have into keeping Bennett. If they lose Bennett and can't replace him they risk both revenue sports fading into obscurity. That could torpedo their ability to pay their top level non-revenue coaches.

I agree with that, if they can't keep Bennett around, especially if they let him walk because they can't or won't open the pocketbook for him, that's bad news for their entire athletic department, because it sends the message they've resigned toward being a stepping stone program.

Littlepage could be in a no win scenario. Open the purse strings to keep Bennet and middle of the pack in the ACC while sacrificing finances or let him go and keep the finances available for his replacement to hire new talent.

Why would replacing Bennett make them fade into obscurity. UVA has a reputation of being a perennial tournament participant with nice BBall facilities and a member of the best bball conference. I think its still an attractive destination for a number of coaches to continue the success.

It's no guarantee that they fade into obscurity, but if they can't replace him with a coach of nearly equal caliber then they certainly won't be getting the press and nationally televised games they've grown accustomed to. And those UVA teams in the late 90s through the 00s certainly weren't perennial tournament teams.

Prior to Bennett, UVA made the NCAA's twice in 15 years. They've won 2 ACC-Tournaments in their 65 year history with the school.
I agree that JPJ and the environment that Bennett has created makes them a nice job moving forward. Heck, I've been close before uttering the blasphemy that they could become the next Duke if Bennett stays. Good brand for parents to buy into, good location, great facility, etc.
I agree that they will be fine after Bennett, if he ever leaves (look at the list Indiana is considering, UVA is right there as a job). I disagree that they are a perennial tournament participant. Between Terry Holland and Tony Bennett was a lot of hard times. Just as it was before Terry Holland.

Bennett wasn't hired by Littlepage, they outsourced the entire thing. Similar deal to Bronco.
But to knock UVAs major sport coaching hires misses out how well they have done with their Olympic sport coaches. Arguably the best set of coaches in the country.
By the way, Littlepage has been on sabbatical for 6 months with no end in sight with ill parents. Jon Oliver is acting AD. They will have a change in President, AD and COO within the next two years.

I don't think Tony Bennett cares about the money, to be honest. UVA seems like the best spot for him to me.
I think the only reason Illinois is offering that much is that perhaps they think it's an offer he can't refuse. And if I'm Bennett, I don't see the allure of leaving UVA for Illinois. You already have the personnel to run your system at UVA, so why leave for a rebuild? It's not like coaching in the B1G is an upgrade over the ACC, and he hasn't shown any reason to believe "going home" means anything to him.

Here's another one for the peeps that like to panic over "If Buzz will go there": Oklahoma St just lost its coach to Illinois. Okie St made a play for Buzz a couple of years ago if I remember correctly or at the very least, I just remember the Cowboy fans wanting him hard.
Underwood left because he hated the AD and made only 1 mil (Buzz makes roughly 2.5 mil at VT.)
They have a pretty terrible AD afraid to spend (and they have a ton to spend), gonna have to step up their game big time if they want Buzz to listen.
He'd be going from one of the best ADs in the country to one of the worst.
He didn't return their calls last year, why would he do so this year?
