2018 FB Recruit Wishlist - March Update

So I posted a similar post a month ago, creating a wishlist of recruits for this next cycle. I have been keeping track of the changes and thought it might be fun to do this monthly to see how it changes throughout the year. As a reminder, this is a list of recruits that it seems like we have a realistic shot at (warm and/or crystal balls on 247, recently visited VT, in their top list, etc.) and also tries to address our needs in the next class.

Since the last post we have added Quincy Patterson and Nasir Peoples as commits, seemingly gained traction with 4-5 RBs, gotten into the mix with 4* TE Kyle Pitts, gotten "warm" with a couple more OL targets, a CB, and a few athletes. (Again, I am not an insider and have zero connections, this is all based on 247, TKP, and other similar sites)

Feel free to agree, disagree, add names left off, or anything else. Most of this information is gathered from 247, but it's nice to have it all in one spot.

For the list, it goes name; position; 247 composite stars; 247 composite score; notes

If we keep all of our current commits and land all of the kids on the wishlist the class would have 25 recruits with an overall average of .8848 (last class was .8614), which would likely be enough to break into the top 20. One position I would like to see some more recruits at would be CB, so I hope we can make some more headway with that position as the year goes on.

Happy TKPing!

When did Slade get bumped to a composite 4*?

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

Probably once he wasn't a Virginia Tech lean, amirite?

always has been? He's a borderline 5 star.

He was previously a five star on the Composite, but looks like he's been bumped to a four now but still 26th overall in the country.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

This is awesome-please keep up the good work in future months. It's very much appreciated for those that don't have the time to keep up with recruiting news.

Thanks for the write up! Always need more O linemen!

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

I always wonder if BAG or anyone else with connections reads this and laughs about how far off these predictions are...

If the list is off, the players I am most excited about after watching most of the HUDL films are Dillon Spalding, Alim McNeill (reminds me of Zion Debose's film), Payton Wilson, Mychale Salahuddin, Andrew Leota, and Antwan Reed.

Watching film of OL confuses me. Kids that aren't that highly rated (John Harris, Aidan Rafferty, Ollie Lane) look better to me than other higher rated guys. Then again, I am neither an OL or an OL coach, so that's no surprise. But it would be pretty cool to hear what someone like French sees/looks for on these films.

OL is a complete crap shoot. If a guy is huge and athletic with even the slightest semblance of technical ability, he'll be highly rated. Of course, that means a good chunk of those guys who get by in high school by dominating smaller and slower kids can't do that once their across the line from a guy like Settle. OL recruiting is more about projection than current rating/ability. French will tell you he looks at one thing when evaluating an OL recruit: what happens to his feet at contact? If he stops his feet and bench presses, hard pass. If his feet keep moving once engaged with a defender, he's worth a look.

Somewhat agree, but it's also not as if the very few OL we've had drafted lately and stuck in the NFL have been rated higher than our usual mid to low 3 star OL recruits. Painter and Gibson were both 4 stars and I believe are our last drafted OLs.

We also continue to recruit undersized highschool OL in the 260-275 range that are never going to be rated very highly and we have to hope they can get the required size to compete at this level after 2-3 years.

Took me a second to realize this was about Facebook and not fullbacks

Noticed a CB for Tre Turner. He is a MUST get this year.

Me thinks some of these recruiting websites are higher on Dillon Spalding than Coach Fuente

To be fair, Coach used up his eligibility long ago.

Why is that?

Tahj Rice and Jamal Elliott are the two on the watchlist that I'd move to the wish list. Rice is physically ready to contribute as a backup, has strong hands and looks relentless on his highlight tape. With DT being huge position of need for this class, I like him more than any other potential DT offers. Hopefully we can steal him from Duke.

There's no glory in practice and lifting but without practice and lifting, there will be no glory!

Hopefully we can steal him from Duke.

10 years ago, I would never have imagined hearing that phrase about any player worth getting. How the times have changed. Can we just go ahead and get back to blowing them out on a yearly basis already?

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

I agree about Rice, the only reason I put him on the watch list was because he already committed to Duke. While I don't think it's impossible to flip him I don't want to get my hopes too high on flipping people, but he would be a great addition at DT.

As far as the RBs, I feel like there isn't a whole lot of separation in their film, I think if we get any 2 of them we'll be in decent shape. The reason I went with Mychale Salahuddin is because it seems like he changes direction really well and he's from DC, it would be nice to have a bigger impact on that area. And I also went with Ronnie Walker because he seems to be considering LOLUVA and it's always fun to take their recruits.

As far as Duke goes it's frustrating, they already got Rice to commit and they are leading for two other recruits who are some of my favorites, DE Andrew Leota and CB Nate Thompson. I hope these guys see the light and come to the good guys.

A couple of big guys that you missed (and that we lead for I might add) are Dyami Brown, Alan Tisdale, and Jordan McFadden.

Bryce Thompson on going to USC.

"It makes my decision a little bit harder. Now they have come into play and they are the home state, and every recruit always keeps the home state in mind. Right now, there's a lot thrown at me so I'm not really sure, but as of right now I'm still committed to Virginia Tech."

Tells you the difference between ESPN and 247. Chammari Conner is a ESPN300 on ESPN and a 4-5 Star, but on 247 is a 3 star
