Syracuse has given Boeheim a contract extension now that their coach in waiting Mike Hopkins left to take the job at Washington. Have to wonder whether this was a chicken or an egg move. Either way it seems Boeheim will now control when he leaves Syracuse.

He literally said he might retire soon as a reason to put Cuse in the dance this year. ASSHOLE.
The interesting thing is that people have wisened up to his bullshit and he's getting publicly humiliated for it. It'll be interesting to see how far he tries to take things over the next few years.
He was on a retirement schedule after the academic sanctions against Syracuse a few years ago, the school announced that he would retire following the 2018 season(the last year on his previous contract). This is a point that has been reiterated by him and the university since that time.
While I don't think anyone, especially boeheim, actually believed that he would retire on that timeline, him saying he was going to retire soon was toeing the university line, not trying to pity his way into the tournament.
I think Mike Hopkins saw that too. He can bank some of that head coach money at UWash and raise the price tag for when Syracuse wants to bring him back.
When I saw this news break all I could think was that it was not a great move for UW, but it'll work out great for Cuse.
Now, they can just wait for Jim to retire on his on term and hire back Hopkins if he has any success. Mike Hopkins is an Orange alum, Cuse is his dream job, he won't turn them down when they come asking.
Why would the Washington administration make this move though? It's at best a few year rental until Boheim does hang it up.
I'll be interested to see if Hopkins is able to retain the whole Porter family. Seems the key to their recruitment is giving their father a job.

Wasn't part of the NCAA going light on sanctions against Syracuse a couple years ago because they set up a timeline for Boeheim to step down after next year? What a load of excrement.
That was my first thought about the extension as well. I guess the NCAA gets to drop the hammer on Syracuse for not meeting their part of the bargain... chuckle, the NCAA actually penalizing somebody for something actually deserved? Never happen.
