DE Houshun Gaines is still on the team but won't participate this spring for academic reasons, VT says. #Hokies' thin DE group gets thinner.— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) March 23, 2017
DE gets even thinner this spring with Gaines out for academic reasons. Hopefully spring and summer semesters help him get back on the good side.

Glad we're keeping them honest with academics. Better to have him out for the spring to hit the books than the fall.
Doin' it the right way
No one should be upset with this call
Wasted opportunity by gaines. Would have thought he'd have learned after his first strike and gotten it together.
I guess he did not come here to play school? Oof, get them grades up son!
Gone
Dunno
It's not like he is in Chapel Hill...
ITT -- Grown adults making fun of a teenager who is struggling a little with academics at a very good academic school while also playing football for one of the best football teams in one of the better conferences in the country.
Not a great look.
Absolutely, some people learn differently and struggle more than others regardless of the help they receive. A lot of students take awhile to realize what they personally need to do to be successful in college, some people figure it out right away, some people it just comes easy, but some don't. Additionally, don't forget the extra strain that being a scholarship athlete puts on academics. These guys are way busier than you think.
Having been on group projects with Josh Hyman, can confirm that syncing a football player's schedule with a Cadet's schedule is nigh impossible.
Guys you are right! I am assuming that the student is just goofing. Not unlike my soph (2nd) year (LMAO) or my son's. Both of us needed a tongue lashing and got them! I do want HG to succeed because he is a Hokie and after I thought; I would never want him to see that. Not my job! I can make it all go away.
I didn't see your original post, so I might regret this if it was especially egregious... But based on this post, nice save. Have a leg for issuing a mea culpa on the internet.
Hardly anyone making fun of him. It's not like this is his first infraction with the team either. It's a wasted opportunity for him and it's a shame for both him and the team.
This is a very poor summary of this thread.
I don't think this was necessarily a summation of the thread so much as it was a response to a comment that has since been deleted and apologized for
Before I commented, 3 out of the 6 parent comments were negative comments towards Gaines. I think it was a fair summation.
Also, considering that my comment is the most upvoted one in this thread, apparently the community feels like it was.
Hey man, see it as you like. I think most people are disappointed or upset and use humor to respond to it which is literally everywhere on this site.
And you did get a lot of legs. You also stood on some moral high ground which it looks like only one comment was really out of line. It was downvoted and the community self moderated. If there's one thing I've seen about this site, they do care about the athletes as students and fellow Hokies. A lot of people want to see Gaines do well in the class so he can play, but also because they want to see a fellow Hokie succeed.
Calling it a wasted opportunity is negative in your book? It's called reality. Also as mentioned in the same post it's not as if this is his first suspension...
As for the "most legged" post in this thread maybe someone should post an emma gif to poke holes at that flawed logic.
I mean... if you insist.
Is it academic issues or academic conflicts?
Dang, really gonna miss seeing him at the spring game this year. During last year's spring game he looked absolutely outstanding. We need him badly.
