West Virginia game moved to Sunday September 3rd

Welp.

This happened for UCLA vs. Texas A&M as well.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

We better fucking not have classes on Labor Day. I literally bought student tickets yesterday.

Holy crap this is going to throw some people's travel plans into disarray.

So yea this doesn't seem to be a popular change based on twitter and Facebook response.

Exhibit A:

That's their own fault really. These changes happen and our game was a case study in the kind of game that gets moved around. If you don't want to interfere with football season, don't put a wedding in football season (or wait until you know when the bye week is).

EDIT: I do feel bad for them tough, it's a tough situation, just wanted to point out that they were playing with fire

I agree that changes happen, but you have to agree that is a brutal change.

They probably were faced with needing a fall wedding and figured they would be safe doing it on a Sunday (cause, you know, college football) and now they're locked in and can't do anything about it.

Yep. If you want to get married during football season, NEVER plan it around Labor Day Weekend, and make sure the day is definitely not going to have a game on it.

I got married the day AFTER the Miami "Oh my god, they killed Kenny!" crushing in '99.

Yes our football games are constantly changing dates. I forgot that part. Screw them for thinking the football game would be on the date that was set nearly 3 years ago.

It happens all the time. Our Ohio State game got moved to Labor Day a couple years ago. Pretty sure the Georgia Tech game in 2012 got moved late. Labor Day has three days of games and none of them are set early. Any major matchup that's not THE matchup (ie second fiddle to FSU/Alabama) has a good probability of moving.

Nearly two years in advance...

Pretty sure the Georgia Tech game in 2012 got moved late

This was announced when the schedule came out like all other games. Completely different than a game set over 2.5 years before being moved.

Agreed. I can't think of a single time when a game was moved to a different day after the schedule was released.

MV5's first start against NCSU was moved from Saturday to Sunday night.

Ok I misremembered those. Still, it happened to Notre Dame/Texas (moved in April) and Tennessee/App State (moved in May) last year. I don't really feel the need to continue digging, but this happens literally every single year for Labor Day, no need to get bent out of shape about it.

All I'm saying is it's not their fault the game got moved to their wedding day after they made an effort to not have it fall on game day but you're talking like this is a common thing and it's simply not. The percentage of games that get moved is extremely small.

I would say if you can't buy a ticket yet, the date isn't set yet.

I literally bought student tickets yesterday.

- Henry Skutt, 1 hour 32 minutes before your comment

I was not aware the FedEx game was included in the season ticket package. Or were they previously on sale as individual tickets? I saw a tweet that said tickets not on sale yet.

student tickets

Your bold text is not helping to educate me. Were individual student tickets available for this game or were they included with the student season tickets? Were they or were they not available to the public?

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

Student tickets have been on sale for a couple of weeks. We can get season tickets (all home games) and we can get up to 2 WVU tickets. I bought WVU tickets yesterday, but haven't decided on whether to pull the trigger on season tickets.

There are also tickets available to the public on Ticketmaster

You responded to a comment mentioning buying student tickets. Student tickets are for students, so they are not available to the public.

Hence the two separate question marks. I was generally trying to figure out why the tweet I saw said tickets not on sale if they were in fact on sale. Thanks to all for the clarification.

Edit: I reread my previous posts and now see why people think I'm an idiot. Henry said student tickets (plural). My response inquiring about season tickets was referring to student season tickets. My assumption was that his plural tickets were season tickets not individual tickets. I now understand he was able to get two individual student tickets to the game which clears up my confusion.

These tickets have been for sale before you could put the deposit down for the Battle at Bristol tickets.

Exhibit B: Do not get married during football season.

(I sincerely feel bad for all the attendees of said wedding including The Fighting Gobbler who is a TKPer.)

when my wife and I got engaged everyone at our tailgate pleaded with us not to get married during football season. We laughed that they even had to ask us not to. We always knew that was never going to happen. I shit you not, if our wedding day coincided with a football game her dad would not be there to walk her down the aisle. We take that shit seriously

Onward and upward

When I get married, I will do everything in my power to not have it land on a VT football weekend. The majority of my family are alums (including a fellow TKPC member) and would be streaming the game during the wedding. I would have no beef with people doing that as I would want updates...

I'm not getting married next June specifically to avoid football season, but we're not not specifically avoiding football season.

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

I wouldn't gauge any sentiment off of social media chatter. People only respond to this stuff when they don't like it.

Awesome!

isn't it a day early for 4/1?

What the fluck?

While the thought of attending the game with a bunch of WVU fans that have been drinking all day is scary, I can't fault the school for going with it. The game is now a night game on a national broadcast. It's great to get that kind of exposure.

until the curse of FedEx bites us

I would actually prefer this game not be in the national spotlight...we have sooo many question marks on this team and this is the first game of the season. I would rather win the game with nobody watching than lose it while the world is tuned in.

Onward and upward

A Fuente led VT team has never played at FedEx. I know nothing of this curse you speak of.

It's kind of like the curse of the Carrier Dome, except we play actual mediocre-to-good teams in FedEx

Or the Heinz field curse, which we broke playing an actual mediocre-to-good team.

Pitt was legitimately good, at least offensively. Despite their record I don't think it's fair to say there were even close to mediocre

Clemson would agree

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

Yea I 100% agree. Can't think of another team in history that beat two year end top 10 P5 conference champion. Mostly wanted to point out that we shouldn't be afraid of playing in FedEx.

Go look at how much WVU is losing on defense. Basically cancels each other out. Better coaching will win that battle.

Gotta say, I'm pretty excited about this. We now will have a primetime ESPN ABC broadcast with very little competition for a national audience. Plus we get to watch the entire opening slate of week 1 college football AND get to see our game in person. Win-Win-Win. And we did it all while avoiding the dreaded Labor Day game that is impossible to travel around.

I get married the week before this, and was planning to come back from a honeymoon Sunday night and go the game on Monday. Unreal level of dick move ESPN.

go to the game on Monday

uh, the game was originally scheduled for Saturday September 2nd..

well then I suck and am ashamed at my low level of reading comprehension.

Oops!...

Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

ESPN wanted to move it to Thursday the 31st originally, but that fell through and I guess they settled on Sunday.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

ARGH! That could've been the first Thursday night game in August in program history, I believe. Bummer.

YEEESSSSSSSS!!!

My girlfriend's birthday is 9/2. After making her fly across the world for a friend's wedding on her birthday last year - I felt guilty dragging her to a game this year. But now I can go to the game!

As someone looking forward to compromising with my GF to go to the game on Saturday and then do a quick weekend out of town on Sunday-Monday, all I have to say is..

I've been on the fence about getting tickets for this game since it was announced. This just pushed me firmly to the "not going" side of the fence.

If you play it, they will win.

WVU fans, drinking all day, in the sun....hide the couches!

Nice things... Can't have them

where can i get a bunch of tickets?

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

And I guess I won't be taking my toddler son anymore.

This! We were going to bring our three little ones to the game and then relax on Sunday, but not now. Really blew our plans out of the water.

why not relax on Monday after the game rather than Sunday after the game? That Monday is Labor Day

Because not everyone gets Labor Day off.

If you play it, they will win.

Since I'm in Japan until October I was excited because I would be able to watch the game starting at 8:30 am on Sunday. Now with it moving to Sunday EST I'll be working Monday morning and will have to watch a rerun unfortunately.

cough, cough.... don't you feel that 24hr stomach flu coming on?

living in Asia this is a serious issue. Now I own the company so I just watch in the office.

what are you doing in Japan?

Hmm...sounds like a great idea!

Only issue is here is Japan if anyone is sick they just wear a mask, rarely if ever do people take a day off for being sick.

I am training at our head R&D center which is located here in Japan. Good experience but horrible for watching any sports (especially football)

Oh I have the masks in China as well, but my friend you need to learn to appreciate the benefits of diarrhea. Bad sushi, some live octopus, crazy old nato... that could keep you down for a good day and everyone is gracious to believe it takes a day to recover.

my friend you need to learn to appreciate the benefits of diarrhea

Hell of a line right here.

Seriously. I think he just found a new signature for his TKP profile.

Yeeeeaaaah... bad sushi ain't no fun. Had some that was apparently spoiled here in NC last summer, and essentially had me bedridden for the next 3 days. Not fun.

Great point, I'll have to try that and let you know how it goes. I have to believe the ONLY benefit to having diarrhea is to watch the Hokies play haha. I appreciate the help!

I was going to go out there on Saturday, guess I'll go Sunday instead. No worries.
