My hatred for Geno is equivalent to that of Saban, Narduzzi, and anything loluva related. I'm so happy to see them lose and last year, they beat this Miss State team by 60 in the sweet 16.

Honestly, it really seems this is the only reason. He runs up the score maybe, but he doesn't seem to be a dick like Coach K calling out players on other teams for celebrating and then lying about it even after the video surfaced
You watch a great girls'/women's BB team go up against an average one, and you can bet on the final score being a lot to a little. Much more frequently than a boys'/men's game. It's just a fact of life.
My high school's girls team would routinely beat teams 3 digits to 1, at least once per year while I was there (and I remember one year where they did it twice against the same team). It's a lot more common than you might think.

When you have one team that is so good they usually steal the ball before you have a chance to shoot, and on the off-chance you can take a shot they're almost a foot taller than you and usually block your shot, and on the off-chance you get a shot past them you're usually not good enough to make it, you're only going to score 4 points in a game.
Maybe that was a slight exaggeration, but I distinctly remember one year (probably over a decade ago now) where Hampton beat Kecoughtan 100+ to 11, and then a month later beat them again 90+ to 4. And they had a game against a different opponent where they won 100+ to 7. Spent a little while looking it up on Google, and sadly couldn't find anything about it.
Fun Fact: In the very first Olympic Basketball Gold Medal Game, the United States beat Canada 19 - 8. Granted, this was 1936...and it was in Nazi Germany...and the game was played outside...on a clay court...in the rain!

That's exactly what I'm saying. When I was growing up, I never saw scores like 127-8, but 76-22 was extremely common.
It wasn't just basketball either. Lopsided scores happened with softball, soccer, and field hockey too. Never understood why girls' sports play(ed) out like that.
No disrespect intended towards the fairer sex (was that sexist?), but I think it has to do with the pool of potential talent. For instance, a much smaller percentage of girls played sports at my HS than boys. As such, any really talented players stuck out even more because there was less likelihood of there being multiple players at that talent level. On top of that, we'd occasionally see players request to go to a different school in the district for the express purpose of playing on a better squad and getting more exposure so she could land a scholly easier. End result, stacked teams and not enough potential players getting funneled through the system to spread the love around.
I would imagine when you can narrow down the field enough, you wouldn't see this kind of lopsided play. For instance at the professional level where all the talent is focused on a relatively small number of teams.
That exact thing happened at my high school. There were two girls who were really good at soccer and played on the boy's team. They held their own through middle school and a year or so in high school. After they hit the competitive wall they transferred to another school in the area where all the other girls who were good at soccer went. And the reason was pretty much so that she could get a scholarship to play in college.
It was kind of weird because she went to that school while her twin brother stayed at our school.
That all sounds about right, and it's what I suspect as well.
Interesting that you mention that. There was a kid at my former HS who, before the 2010 season, moved from Newport News to Hampton so that he could play for Phoebus High. The VHSL ruled him ineligible for that year for vague reasons, but I suspect someone let it slip that he moved to Hampton for the sole purpose of playing football. And the VHSL frowns upon that. I have no idea what happened to him after that, but he doesn't seem to have gone to college (would have been in the '11 recruiting class).
I knew of a few guys who moved to Hampton to play for either Hampton or Phoebus in the mid-2000s, but the ones I knew about didn't get caught. Seems pretty rotten that the VHSL would rule a kid ineligible just because his family saw an opportunity to improve his future prospects and uprooted their lives to make it happen, but I suppose rules are rules.
I need to check with my brother to see what happened with him. They were teammates.
The girl I knew who did it didn't even move. Her parents just petitioned the school board and since she was driving to school anyway and was physically closer to the new school due to goofy districting, they approved.

UCONN had the ball, game tied, with about 25 seconds left. Girl went to the hoop, tripped, and threw up a desperation shot that airballed out of bounds with 12 seconds on the clock. There was no way UCONN should have come out of that OT period with anything less than a tie, but they left just enough time for Miss St. to hit the buzzer beater. Heck of a game.

Biggest upset ever? Not even close, even in recent history. Mississippi State was a #2 seed and was like 30-4 going into the game with one of the top scorers in the women's game. Great accomplishment just like when Washington beat Miami to end their home winning streak (58 home games in a row) or when Notre Dame beat Oklahoma to end the longest winning streak (47 games in a row) ever? Absolutely. But those aren't considered the biggest upsets ever.
Because UCONN hasn't lost in 111 games and beat that team by sixty last year.

UConn hadn't lost in like 2.5 years, and the conventional wisdom in WBB is that there's UConn, and then the gap to #2 is a huge chasm. So the equivalent in MBB might be a double-digit seed beating #1. Maybe it's not the biggest upset ever, but it's certainly huge.
Yes, I think we all understand that but I never said it wasn't huge, just not the biggest. I even checked the score this morning and said "oh wow" but never once thought this is the biggest upset ever.
Women's basketball is a lot feather away from a 16 beating a 1 than men are. There are only a handful of good women's teams in total.
I agree. Im just saying Mississippi State was no schmuck of a team. And like you said, since there is only a handful amount of good teams in women's basketball, you are not going to face a lot of good teams like you would in men's so winning streaks like UCONN's are very impressive but you have to know they weren't playing as good as competition as often. But again, don't get me wrong, 111 wins is insane.

And, per Wikipedia, Stanford's two best players blew out their knees before the game. So they weren't even the same team.
