This week the AP Poll released it's ranking of the top 100 programs based on how often a program has been ranked. From their description of the rankings
To determine the all-time Top 100, the AP formula counted poll appearances (one point each) to mark consistency and No. 1 rankings (two points each) to acknowledge elite programs. Keep in mind that AP doesn't release a poll after the NCAA Tournament, so eventual national champions are not factored into these rankings.

Top 5: Kentucky, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Kansas
Louisville and Syracuse also made the top 10. 6 ACC teams made the top 25. Virginia Tech sneaks in at number 99! We're the lowest ranked ACC program. Here's to moving up a couple spots in the next few years.

I'm actually shocked we made it. Happy. But shocked.
Weird ranking method (at least from my perspective). Noticed that VCU and GMU weren't considered.
GMU is almost never ranked; and as they state they don't take into account tournament results, which is where both those teams have made their marks
I kinda wish they added some points for a Final Four. Like 2 for a Final Four and 2 more for a National Championship.
AP has no hand in the tournament at all, hence no credit.
