Anyone here listening to it? New spin-off from Serial. I have finished 3 episodes so far, and it's been really fascinating. I don't think its as good as Serial, but definitely better then the second season of Serial.

Glad to hear it! My wife and I listen to this stuff on road trips. I downloaded every episode of S-Town for our upcoming trip. We loved the first season of serial, but the second season was meh.
We are listening to 'Up and Vanished' and that is pretty good too. The episodes are still posting every two weeks. The guy starts looking into a cold case from Georgia that's ~10 years old and getting locals to talk about the case again stirs up some previously undisclosed information.
Awesome. I love this kind of media. Got to give it a chance.
Yeah, I'm on chapter 3 as well....very interesting! You can't anticipate where it goes, that's for sure.
Glad to hear Season 2 was poop, I didn't want to commit to it and its good to hear I didn't miss anything. I couldn't emotionally care about him enough to listen to any more. But I loved season 1. (Maybe comprable to True Detective? Which is in writing for a Season 3....while they admit that Season 2 was a shit-show)
Are we talking about season 2 of the "Serial" podcast or the second podcast about Adnan's case called "Undisclosed"?
Season 2 of Serial = Sucked
Season 1 of Undisclosed = Pretty Good. It shed a lot more light on Adnan's case and provided information that led to his retrial. *They even tell you to listen to Season 1 of Serial before listening to this podcast.
Serial.2 with Beau Bergdahl. I couldn't make it much past the first one.
It wasn't really a fun listen. There wasn't any real intrigue to it and I came away with absolutely no new opinion the matter other then the Army should have never let him in.
Glad to hear that this is good, the trailer certainly made it promising. All the episodes are on my phone right now, but I'm currently trying to catch up on Up and Vanished. Season 2 of Serial just felt too forced, and definitely didn't fit the mold set by season 1. I learned a lot more about the whole Bowe Bergdahl case, than what was covered by the media in general, but it certainly didn't hook me like season 1.
If anyone is looking for some other true crime podcasts similar to Serial season 1, with the in depth interviews etc. definitely check out Up and Vanished. Some other good ones are Someone Knows Something (both seasons) and Missing and Murdered: The Case of Alberta Williams. Both are from our neighbors to the north at the Canadian Broadcast Company. For the most part none of these have the court room aspect that Serial has, but both are good listens. Another good true crime podcast is True Crime Garage, it doesn't have the depth of any of others, but the two guys do a good a job of breaking down the cases etc.
I hate hate HATE Up and Vanished. It started off good, but as it got more attention, the producer plugged himself into the podcast more and more and by the end almost feels like he is taking credit for literally everything. He brought attention to the case, which I believe ultimately did help close the case. It just seemed like every episode was flinging shit at the wall and seeing what would stick. And nothing he flung stuck. He made multiple accusations that were completely unfounded. By the end he made himself the story and not Tara Grinstead.
Definitely noticed this too. TBH, it's annoying, but it doesn't bother me enough to make me stop listening.
I didn't bother me too much when they were still reviewing the case, but once the guys were caught it got unbearable for me. He just didn't have anything else to talk about since there were no more theories to hash out and hint out accusations.
I agree with that assessment. Also, I get that dude needs to make money but I feel like he is taking the adds a little too far. The breaks are intrusive and seem to be getting more frequent with every episode. Even still, it's a good attention holder for road trips.
Yeah he tries to make them "personal" like he has been using them forever. I understand most ad reads are scripted but he reads them like 2-3 syllables at a time. Also, I was never able to get through the Q&A episodes because the questions he was answering were just plain stupid.
If anyone wants a comedic podcast about sports and life with cool interviews of big players in every sports industry, listen to the Pat McAfee Show. He was the colts punter (and he was a WVU kicker, but he didn't graduate, so eh...) until he retired out of nowhere to pursue comedy. He now works for Barstool Sports and does a podcast for them with a bunch of his friends. Also his ad reads are hilarious, and he does them right. They don't stop the show to read them, but someway somehow hilariously fit them in whatever they are talking about. It's definitely one of my favorite podcasts.

I just finished the final episode a few hours ago. I liked it a lot, but have some complaints. I thought the first two episode were a little slow, but once McLemore killed himself, it got really interesting. I was really hoping that the podcast would focus on the 'treasure hunt', which they really started to do in episodes 4 and 5. The conflict between Tyler, the cousins and Faye was enthralling and easily the most interesting subplot in the podcast.
While I appreciated that the last two episodes offered unique insight into John B., a man who was a walking oxymoron, I was really interested in the conflict over McLemore's estate - how large was it? Where was it? How/why did a man with as much attention to detail plan his death but not leave a will? Did he leave a set a clues so someone could find it? I was very disappointed to not get any of these questions answered.

As for the gold... I don't think there was actual gold. I think John might have done something like guild the outside of a brick to look like gold, but in reality it wasn't. I think the cops took the fake gold and thought realized it was indeed fake.
Same, I was hoping he was killed for his money, then I was hoping there actually was money. I think at the end of the day it's just 7 episodes about John B and how...interesting he was.
On another note, Woodstock is about an hour and some change from where I live now. I might have to take a Sunday road trip over there once all this wears off.
