Also, The Sporting News ranked Tech #23 in their "way-too-early NCAA basketball rankings for 2017-18" (http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketball/news/college-basketball-top-...).
Why they're here: Buzz Williams has had the Hokies on an upward plane since taking over a program that only won nine games the season before he arrived. Virginia Tech made its first NCAA Tournament since 2007 this year, and with an outstanding group of returning players — led by Justin Robinson, Chris Clarke, Ahmed Hill and Justin Bibbs (all four averaged between 9.2 and 11.4 points per game) — plus a solid recruiting class, expect the Hokies to take another step forward.
I think a preseason rank might be a bit premature given the uncertainty around Chris Clarke's injury. But it's great to see Buzzketball being relevant.

If we make it to the dance without Blackshear and Wilson the whole year and Clarke at the end of the year, we can go dancing every year. Buzz is the man.

Worth noting that of all the way too early predictions for next year, ESPN is the most bullish on us. So hey if the low bar is a 7 seed, that's fine by me
Someone get Joe Lunardi a hobby. This is more insane than football preseason top-25 rankings at this point.
Projecting small conference winners might be the most ridiculous part. I'm convinced he picks some of the same 14-16 seeds year after year because he can't name another team from their conferences.

I love the recognition of what Buzz is building here... but this is ridiculous. But still...
While exceptionally early, and ultimately kind of pointless, it is good to see perception shifting a bit with these kind of things. No way we are in any of these discussions a couple of years ago. Good to feel like things are moving in the right direction.
A 7 seed made the final four this year, so this sounds about right.
