USA Today has Hokies 13th going into 2017
Logic isnt completely flawed in their evaluation but they must not think much of many of the other teams around the country that have more top talent returning.
They discuss the Fuente Effect, especially on offense as a positive.
As for the reasons we arent higher, they cite the QB position and the fact that the ACC Coastal is the ACC Coastal, which is like a box of chocolates with Forrest Gump.
This was my favorite part of the quick and dirty evaluation:
Three players to know
1. LB Andrew Motuapuaka. With Motuapuaka and Tremaine Edwards leading the way, Tech's linebackers will be a clear strength on defense.
2. S Terrell Edmunds. Moving from cornerback to free safety will lead to a few growing pains this offseason, but Edmunds has the athleticism and aggressiveness to earn all-conference honors on the back end.
3. TE Chris Cunningham. With Bucky Hodges off to the NFL, Cunningham will have a great opportunity to build on his solid freshman season in 2016.

Tremaine Edwards? Who's he? He IS a name to remember because I've never heard of him. Guess I don't know Hokie football as well as I thought.
No no, you know who he is. He lines up beside Bucky Rogers.
Reminds of that kid we had at QB back when we first joined the ACC. Think they called him Bryan-Marcus-Randall-El.
No, no. You're thinking of that time that Motley came in during the fourth quarter of the Miami game on a Thursday night in Blacksburg (which was actually cancelled and never happened).
No no, it's next to this guy:
Very poorly researched. Terrell is not moving from corner to safety, he is moving from our SS to FS. Cunningham plays H-back, whereas bucky was strictly a wide receiver last year.
Can't all live on this site
I'll forgive them for that. Bucky was still listed as a TE for us all year and is in the hokie record books as a TE. Cunningham is also listed as a TE. Hard to label when guys move around in formations.
I am pretty sure that the formations listed Bucky as a WR not a TE. The media just never changed his designation.
*Sees ltrepeter posting about a "way-too-early" poll*
*Thinks "there's no way our basketball team should be #13"*
*Clicks*
Oh. Makes a little more sense, even if it's poorly researched.
Well since you mentioned it...
Oh for fuck's sake
....also as poorly researched as the football poll since they listed Johnny Hamilton as part of the bench, but no mention of Seth Leday and Nick Fullard and also no mention of Clarke having to rehab from ACL injury.
I was about to mention that about Johnny, but I couldn't remember if he quit basketball or if he still had a year of eligibility left
To be fair, they only have us at #14.
Still too damn high though.
It's probably because Rothstein loves Buzz.
Poor Cam gets no love.
Hokies Way Too High in Way Too Early Poll
I hope they're right, but it's going to be hard to bank on getting QB play like we got out of Jerod every time we have a new QB.
Yes, but to play devil's advocate, we had no idea what we would be getting out of Jerod at this time last year, and he hadn't taken a D1 snap either
That's true. Perhaps I'm just an eternal pessimist.
I'd accept getting QB play like that by the time they leave, though.
If we come into the season ranked anywhere near this, just go ahead and start making plans for GameDay to be in Blacksburg for the Clemson game. Even a loss to WVU wouldn't drop us enough to keep them away.
Just enjoying the disrespekt for wvu.
It's really not as big of a game as everyone wants to make it. Yeah, it's a season opener, on Labor Day, at a pro stadium. But WVU sucks.
So many WV jokes that I can't post here.
I think it'll generate more hype later in the summer, pretty sure it'll be a ranked match up.
